It’s been forever since I’ve done a good old fashion Food Find. Now that I’m getting comfortable in my new home I feel I can spend a little more time grocery shopping and stocking (I’m very much a buy in bulk stock-er type of shopper so the whole temporary living situation for that last 2 months really crimped my style).

Just in case you were wondering, Food Finds are products that just happen to catch my attention while shopping. They aren’t paid reviews (which I don’t do) or products that companies send me to try. I post them as Product Reviews. It’s been so long I thought I’d take a minute to clarify.

Anyway.. let me get to this 1 point chocolate cup from heaven!

Can you tell I liked it? It was the perfect ending to my lunch today. I packed some leftover Dried Herb and Yogurt Marinated Pork…

…and one of these cups. It was perfect, like my own little TV dinner. I love the idea of having a sweet bite after a savory meal. And it’s even better if the sweet bite is only 60 calories!

The texture was super light and airy. To be honest I’m not sure what traditional mousse is "suppose" to taste like but I don’t care. This totally hit the spot for me and was a nice change from original sugar free pudding cups.

There are two other flavors, Caramel Crème and Chocolate Indulgence. Has anyone else tried them?

Oh! and I can’t find them on the official jell-o site so I’m guessing they are pretty new.

Oh My Word!

I just finished my very first Chocolate Mint VitaTop and I’m in heaven! It was exactly what I needed after my long day. Chocolaty. Refreshing. Totally Deliscious!

But before I tell you more about it let me give you a quick update…

I squished in a 5 mile run this morning and I did it in 48 minutes. I was shocked and it felt GREAT!

The in-laws have left but before doing so, helped us immensely. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

The POD will be gone tomorrow and we will be handing back the keys to the apartment this week.

We are officially in the new house! We have food in the fridge and FINALLY a couch to sit on! :)

We cooked our first meal tonight after a long day of unpacking.

We aren’t even CLOSE to being done but we don’t care. We have a home and that’s all that matters.

That’s it in a nutshell. The meal I cooked was nothing fancy, just a few hot dogs, some backed beans and quick sugar snap peas but… I made it, we ate at home, and it FELT GREAT to do so. Strange I know.

After dinner we cleaned up, made lunches, gave the little guy a bath, organized the bathrooms and settled down to relax a little bit. I’m exhausted!

I was also a little hungry. So I deiced to pour a small glass of Light Chocolate Soy Milk and try one of the new VitaTop that Vitalicious shipped me. I was totally psyched to see Chocolate Mint. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Chocolate Mint. It’s one of those flavor combinations that’s just hard for me to resist and the VitaTop totally delivered right out of the freezer. I didn’t even let it defrost as I knew the chilled harder texture would be even more refreshing paired with the mint. And it was! There were even quite a few thin chocolate chips that added a great crunch when frozen.

Paired with the small glass (about 4 oz) of Light Chocolate Soy milk it was a really satisfying chocolaty snack for just about 3 points. The VitaTop is 1 and the Soy milk is 1 but added together I’m pretty sure the nutritional info totals 3. EIther way, it’s totally a great filling dessert.

Ok, I gotta go. I really am exhausted and it sucks that I have work tomorrow. I really wish I had another week of to get organized. But I don’t. So I’ll do what I can when I can.

Oh! and I’m hoping one of those things I do is a video for GreenLiteBites! I have an idea and I’m hoping to try out recording in my new kitchen tomorrow night!

Oh! Oh! I forgot… Click here if you are interested in trying the Chocolate Mint VtaTop or any Vitalicious product. Be sure to enter the promotional code RonisWeigh for 10% off.

Ok.. it’s Mad Men time! :)

Oh! Oh! Oh! I started back up with my food journaling today. Figured I’d post…

Add water, click a few buttons on the microwave and have warm molten chocolate cake in minutes! Oh… and it’s only 150 calories?!? (3 wwp) That’s the thought behind Betty Crocker Warm Delight Minis and I think it’s pretty genius. However, you won’t catch me buying them anytime soon. There is enough temptation in my life already. I don’t need to know that on a whim I can make warm chocolate cake when ever I want. Seriously, that’s just a disaster waiting to happen.

That’s not to say they weren’t good. I had them in the pantry for weeks then one night the husband and I wanted something sweet before bed. So we made the two I was sent to review. To my surprise he actually liked it and so did I. How can you not like warm chocolate cake? It’s WARM CHOCOLATE CAKE! Of course we were both disappointed by the size but for 150 calories what did we really expect?

These are the kind of products you have to take at face value. You want something sweet? A controlled portion instead of eating a honking slice? then yeah, if you are going to eat it anyway, then chose the lesser evil. BUT don’t kid yourself, it’s still evil. First 3 ingredients… Sugar, Enriched Flour Bleached, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and/or Cottonseed Oil –YIKES!

In the product’s defense they aren’t making any health claims besides the calories. They literally are just "mini" versions of their traditional cake mixes made for the individual who needs to cure a chocolate craving FAST! For that, they do do.

I’m a nighttime snacker. It’s a habit. I enjoy it. I don’t want to give it up. I routinely eat something between 11 and midnight daily. I always have, even while losing. Generally I keep the snacks light. Fruit, Popcorn, light ice cream treats, soy crisps and salsa or crackers with some laughing cow cheese.

However, recently I’ve been overly snacking. Indulging. Do I dare say bingeing? Last night it was a half a gallon of ice cream. The night before I actually broke into a bag of chocolate chips. And the husbands Swedish fish have been slowly disappearing.

I’ve been in a rut. It happens. I know this. BUT I can’t let it continue or snowball into weeks or months. That’s when you get yourself into trouble.

Instead of grabbing something mindlessly tonight I decided to make an effort and look for something to cure the snack attack for maximum flavor and minimal points.

As I write this I’m eating a Fudgy Peanut Butter Chip VitaTop with a glass of light vanilla almond milk. Talk about flavor! I’ve got all my bases covered…. chocolate… peanut butter…. vanilla… and almond. Seriously, all of my favorite flavors! And the best part…. all for 3 points! :)

I’m new to almond milk. I picked some up today for the first time and am pleasantly surprised how good it is. Trying new things as been a big part of my success and every time I get into a rut like I’ve been, discovering a new healthy snack helps me out of it. It reminds me that there are so many healthy ‘lite’ options out there that are so much better then bingeing my way through a bag of semi-sweet chocolate mini chips. I just need to take the time and look for them. :)

Just so you know…

8oz light vanilla almond milk is approx. 70 calories with 2.5g of fat (2 wwp)

Fudgy Peanut Butter Chip VitaTop 100 calories, 1.5g of fat, 6g of fiber (1 wwp)

Both eaten together slowly while blogging and watching TV is a very satisfying snack! :)

I’m feeling much better today. The toddler and I had an eventful morning running errands. I got a good workout in. We went to the library. Had lunch together and took naps! Besides a little back pain I’m feeling good. Oh! and we have a showing tomorrow! Someone is coming to look at the house (cross your fingers for me!)

Here’s my food journal from today. Proud of myself for not eating lunch out when I was so hungry BUT I did break into the meringues from Trader Joe’s (which, by the way, I’ll be adding a few more things to my Trader Joe’s shopping list soon!)

I’m a HUGE proponent of the creative snack. I truly believe a snack (or a meal for that matter) is ultimately more satisfying when you prepare it yourself. There’s something about the process, it’s rewarding. Think about it…

You have a case of the munchies.

You want… "something", anything but your not sure what.

You can either…

Open the pantry, grab a bag of chips, go to town and blow your points/calories for the day.

Get a controlled portion of your favorite snack in a 100 calorie pack and be ultimately unsatisfied because it’s so freakin’ small. OR

Whip up an English Muffin Tomato Pizza or Baked Zucchini Fries. Maybe a Quick Quesadilla or even a Brownie Sundae!

Choice C may take more time but it can give you a healthier, lighter, more satisfying snack. Plus it makes you slow down and appreciate the food. I don’t know about you but I can eat an AWFUL lot of chips in 10 minutes. I’d rather take that 10 minutes, prepare something fun and enjoy a mini meal instead of being pi$$ed that a chocolate chip cookies is 200 calories.

So I’m here to ask what YOUR favorite snack creations are. Whether you use a product like laughing cow cheese or keep it simple with fresh ingredients like my Simply Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms, we are ready to be inspired! :)

P.S. I post all my snack ideas here on RonisWeigh or over on GreenLieBites Snack pages.

A few weeks ago I wanted something sweet. I was craving hot cocoa but was all out of light and didn’t feel like making my own. So I turned to tea. I bought a green tea sampler
a while back and I’ve been experimenting. Fist my Berry-licious Pomegranate Oatmeal and now Chocolate Mint Tea!

Here’s what I do. Boil water (duh), steep my mint tea bag for about 2 minutes, drizzle 1 tbsp (17g) of light chocolate syrup and stir until dissolved.

That’s it! It totally satisfies my sweet tooth on cold winter nights for a mere 25 calories! That’s a measly .5 points! I round up to keep myself honest. :~)

Honestly, I’m getting addicted! It’s my new nighttime habit. And yes, I’m sipping some right now! ;~)

This is more of a food re-find. I started buying these back a few years ago and have been meaning to post about them every since! I forgot about them (not all stores carry them) for a bit until coming across them again last weekend.

These are one of my favorite Quaker Products. They aren’t "Rice Cakes", which have a reputation of being bland and boring, they are "Multigrain Cakes", and cinnamon to boot! You can’t go wrong. The texture is yummy and and each cake as the perfect amount of sweetness.

Made with Whole grain rice, corn and oat flours these are a snack I love to share with the toddler. He’s been munching on them since he entered finger food age.

Quaker has the nutrition information and ingredients listed nicely on there snack page but I’ll give you a sneak peak, 50 calories a cake, 1g of fat, 1g of fiber, 1 WWP.

Anyone else out there a fan?

Last year I tried the Dark Chocolate Pomegranate Flavored VitaBrownie and they soon became my favorite Vitalicious product, until now! Recently I got a chance to try the Dark Chocolate Pomegranate VitaTop and I like it even better! I mean they taste identical but the size and shape of the VitaTop is nicer, especially when you pull them out of the freezer. They defrost fast and (I can’t believe I’m going to admit this) even taste good frozen. That’s right, I’ve eaten them frozen and so has the toddler. ;~) They also have a better shape to top with a scoop of your favorite lite ice cream!

If you remember I announced a few months ago that I had a Vitalicious store front. Vitalicious and I have been talking about a few promotions and I’m really excited about our new relationship. We are working on a “Roni’s Favorites” sample pack, a contest and I got them to agree to a Roni’s Weigh promotion code! So if you plan on buying any Vitalicious products please use the code RonisWeigh, you’ll get 10% off and be supporting my sites at the same time! Vitalicious will also be launching a new blog soon and asked me to supply some videos! How cool is that? :~)

I’m super excited about this. Vitalicious and I have had an informal relationship for a while. They’ve sent me samples to try and even used some of my ideas in newsletters but this is more “official” and I feel like my blog is growing up in a way. Plus I really like their products! :~)
