Can you tell I’m a bit bored and stir crazy?

I really should be working on the new site but I’m having a bit of designers block. To beat my blues & the block I post. My normal goal is one post a day, well, this is my third! It could be worse I could be moping about the house and watching old movies. :~)

I did make it to my post-op appointment today and the doctor said everything is looking good. My incisions are perfect and I’m healing well. I’ll be honest, I snapped some pictures but I’m not sure I’m ready to post them just yet. With the tummy it was easier for me. I wore a pair of baggy sweats but the thighs and flanks seem a bit more personal as I snap the photos in my underwear. Plus, I have a hell of a lot more readers then I did 2 years ago and it freaks me out a little. LOL

Seeing the pictures made me feel much better. The “love handle” area improvement is phenomenal. It’s quite amazing even with all the swelling. Oh! and the swelling by the way, I hopped on the scale and saw a number I’ve haven’t seen in TWO YEARS… 156!! Holy crap! That’s how much water weight I’m carrying around! I can’t let it get me down, it’s just a number and I’m healing. It’s to be expected. I think I’ll be taking morning scale readings for a bit starting tomorrow. I’m curious to see how the water weight will pan out.

OK, I think I rambled on enough. The husband just got home and wants to go out. It’s our last night without the toddler so I think I’m going to take advantage. What’s the difference if I sit at home watching a movie or actually go to the movies?

Here’s my food journal so far but I’ll probably add some popcorn on the list. :~D

Well, it’s over and I came out alive! Sore, but alive. To be frank, I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck.

I’m ordered to wear a binder until Friday’s post op appointment so I haven’t even seen the results or stitches but I can tell I’m super swollen.

The one thing that makes me feel better is to take walks around the house. It helps with the stiffness. I hope to be able to take a walk outside tomorrow, but we’ll see.

On the eating front today I was feeling well enough this morning to experiment in the kitchen. Actually I think its a form of therapy for me. I had fun researching and trying my hand at some homemade crêpes. I like them so much I ate them for every meal!

As promised, my food journal today, I do plan on counting points for a bit as I felt like my diet was getting away from me with the vacation, houseguests and parties. Even though I’m recovering the fact that we are back to normalcy at home is great. I’m taking full advantage of my time at home to catch up on projects and I’m make strides on the new site!

..emotions that make me want to eat. Yup, like most of my recent out of whack days, today started off just fine and then, crash, boom, bash, I’m a stuffed pig.

We went out for a last meal of sorts as I can eat after midnight before the surgery and it’s scheduled for 2:45PM! That’s going to be one long hungry day!

I’m not sure if I ate too much because I was preparing for the 14 hour fast or because I was nervous. Maybe I’m just using both as an excuse to just, well, eat. Who knows! All I do know, is I AM counting points for a a few days to get myself back on track. The past 2 weeks have been out of control and I’m seeing some old scary habits resurfacing. I also won’t be able to workout as much in recovery so my diet better be in check! I’m a little worried about this, can you tell?

So stay tuned for some food journal posts this week and tomorrow I may have an announcement about a project I’ve been working on.

I have 8 minutes to get some water in. Then it’s fast time. Good Night!

Oh! I will be using Twitter to update on Surgery progress, it’s fast and easier then posting full posts. Click here to see my twitter page

This weeks question comes from my recent post, The Choice for Plastic Surgery after Weight Loss. In the article I gave my reason for choosing to have plastic surgery after weight loss and I talked about how hard of a decision it was for me to make.

Most comments were from those who supported my decision and they shared their views on the plastic surgery issue. However, those who had a different point of view, and felt that surgery is not the answer, got the impression they weren’t able to contribute. Many saw the anti-surgery comments as negative and, in essence, unsupportive of my decision.

This is partially my fault as I made the post very personal. In reality this blog is really a personal journal made public so sometimes I just vent or rationalize for myself while letting others in. That sometimes doesn’t make a good forum for healthy debate.

I’m not naive, I don’t think everyone thinks my decision was the right one, but as I said in my original post, “My decision is one that not all will agree with but in the end it’s mine to make.”

That being said, I thought it would be beneficial to actually hear what peoples position are on plastic surgery without it being a supportive/unsupportive issue of my decision.

So….

How do you feel about plastic surgery after a significant weight loss? Would you have surgery if you had the means?

Let’s try to keep it nice. I won’t take it personally, if you won’t. :~)

This is such a tough topic for me to discuss. I want to spread the “love thyself” message. I want to be a women who looks in a mirror, flaws and all, and says “I love you, just the way you are”. I’ve always wanted to be that person but truthfully, I’m not and never was. I envy people who have that quality at any size, they are a truly inspirations.

It wasn’t until I accepted myself that weight loss was possible. When I accepted my flaws, faced my emotions and believed in ME, I was able to really step up to the challenge and long term commitment that weight loss took.

Once I reached my goal, I faced the new challenge so many people who lose weight do. I had/have access skin and body issues that I would not have if I never carried the extra 70lbs. Excess weigh puts stress on our bodies in more ways then one and (especially as we age) it doesn’t just snap back to pre-weight shape. I think most of us know this.

So once I reached my goal weight I decided to have a Tummy Tuck. It was actually an easy decision for me. I’ve always had an issue with my midsection and the amount of skin that was left was excessive. There was nothing I could do to minimize it on my own and I looked at the procedure as the last stop on transforming into the new me. It was a way to say goodbye to the chubby girl inside and welcome the confident slim women I always knew I could be.

It worked, it really did. I do not regret for one single minute that I made that decision. Even with the pain, long recovery time and year of payments it was worth it.

Would I be miserable with out it? Probably not. I’d probably wear baggier clothes and baby dolls tops a bit more and be a little less confident but I would have survived. I’m sure of that, but I had the means, and the guts, so I did it.

Now I’m making another decision. This decision took me almost a year to make and it has me reconsidering my self-love and self-acceptance. In that year I’ve accomplished more physically then I ever considered possible. I’m a weight training fanatic now and I have less then 12 hours until my first ever 5K. My body is in better shape then I could have ever imagined.

At my last post-op appointment for the tummy tuck I mentioned a few areas to the doctor that still bothered me. A little extra skin here a little stubborn fat there. He recommended a procedure and I’ve pondered it since last August.

On one side, I have the confident, “your just fine the way you are” girl saying, “it’s not worth it”. You’ve come so far and you look great. Be happy with who you are and just keep doing what your doing. You are fabulous!

On the other side, I have the confident (yes both these women are confident), “you’ve come so far but you could look better” girl saying, “why not, you deserve this”. You really have come so far, and you do look great but there are some things out of your control and if you have the means to fix them then why not. You only live once after all!

My decision is one that not all will agree with but in the end it’s mine to make. I’ve decided to proceed with the surgery and I will be getting extra skin and fat removed from my sides and thighs in a few weeks.

The funny thing, I feel better getting all that off my chest! It really was a hard decision for me and I didn’t let too many people in before making it. Surgery is scheduled for June 17 and in a weird way I’m looking forward to it. As with everything, it’s another stage on my journey and one I will learn and grow from.

I feel like I’ve been all over the map this week, still trying to find that routine I so desperately need. I’m getting closer (or maybe I’m just getting more used to the chaos.)

I wrapped up one of my first clients this week as a business owner! I redesigned and coded a site for a Maryland dog trainer. She couldn’t be happier with the site and it made me feel so good to do something I REALLY love while making someone else happy AND getting paid for it! Nothing is more satisfying. Well, maybe except seeing a loss on the scale when I’m trying to lose! ;~P

BlogToLose hit over 500 members this week!! I can’t believe how fast it’s growing. We are still ironing out all the kinks but it’s really what I had imagine, a place where people can find the support they want and need to change their eating habits and live a healthier life. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, I don’t think I would be as successful as I am keeping the weight off if it wasn’t for this blog and I really wanted to create a place where people could easily find the same support I get every day. Why did I build it? Well, it’s not easy to 1.) create a blog and then 2. ) get people to read it and comment but when a community of people get together it much easier to find the support. I HOPE it is working well for everyone.

I forgot to mention I weighed in again this Wed. I love the fact that I can now go to Weight Watchers and see my favorite leader on Wednesdays. So when my schedule allows I will always be updating my weight progress Wednesdays (I haven’t figured out an easy way to do the graphs yet but the table data is correct). To my surprise I was actually down .4 this week even with my Memorial day food blowout!

I’m gearing up for my first 5K run this Sunday! I pick up my race pack tomorrow and I’m SUPER nervous! I haven’t been feeling well and it seems that every time I run I get cramps now. I don’t know what’s up with that so if anyone has any advice, I’m all ears. Especially on how to prepare for the run in the next 2 days.

I felt real good about my eating this week and I even posted a couple of food journals. I’ve been home making (most) of my own meals and I love having the flexibility to whip something up mid day instead of being stuck with what I brought to work.

And Finally, I have a meeting next week with a friend who is going to help with… *dun dun DUN* … ya ready? MY COOKBOOK! Yes ladies and gentleman I’m taking the leap. I’m tired of getting the question in my inbox so the answer is YES! I’m working on it. :~D I’m thinking of putting together a “favorites” from GreenLiteBites with pictures and all so stay tuned for updates on that!

OK, this has turned into the longest post ever. I’m off to take the toddler to the Zoo. Then hopefully he’ll nap and I can get some work done and then it’s off to the gym for a date with my trainer friend. I don’t mean to rub it in, but man this working at home this is the best! It’s a lot to juggle but I’m LOVING the extra time with the toddler!

Here’s to a great weekend!

Oh crap! I did have one more thing. I have an appointment with my plastic surgeon tomorrow so stay tuned for an update on that. I know i haven’t mentioned it in awhile (the last time was WAY back on August) well I’ve actually met with the doctor a few times since then and tomorrow I have my last appointment. I’ll fill you all in tomorrow.
