I’m so tired today! Maybe my not so stellar diet this weekend is catching up with me? I’m not sure, but this evening after dinner while the husband was playing with the little guy I totally crashed on the couch. I’m still exhausted so I’m going to head to bed after I post this quick update. :)

I actually mustered up enough motivation to run after work. I realized that I have my next 5K this weekend and I need to start training for the half I signed up for in May by Feb 9th to get 12 weeks in. All I can say is….. YIKES! I’m glad I set those goals, the are keeping me going.

Chart taken from Nike+ web site after sync. Click here to see how I did it.

Other then the run I have nothing to report accept for the new Fiber One 90 calorie bar I tried. If I had more energy I’d probably write a whole post about them but to be honest, I just don’t have it in me. They are like every other "diet food," yummy and chock full of things I can’t pronounce. . .

Chicory root extract, chocolate chips with confectioners shellac (chocolate chips [Sugar, Chocolate Liquor, Cocoa Butter, Dextrose, Milk Fat, Soy Lecithin, Ethanol, Shellac, Hydrogenated Coconut Oil]), Rolled Oats, Crispy Rice (Rice Flour, Sugar Malt, Salt), Barley Flakes, High Maltose Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sugar, Canola Oil, Honey, Glycerin, Maltodextrin, Palm Kernel Oil, Tricalcium Phosphate, Soy Lecithin, Salt, Nonfat Milk, Peanut Oil, Cocoa Processed with Alkalin, Natural Flavor, Baking Soda, Color Added, Almond Flour, Sunflower Meal, Wheat Flour, Mixed Tocopherols Added to Retain Freshness.

Can we get yummy and full of ingredients I actually WANT to put in my body… PLEASE! When will these companies listen. Ugh.. it’s like talking to a brick wall.

Sorry.. I’m just tired and grumpy. Here’s my food journal for the day. I didn’t intentionally keep my points low I just wasn’t that hungry. It’s amazing what happens when I actually listen to my body.

Well… maybe only one is Souper Duper and the other is just souper. ;~) Here’s the deal. . .

The Super Duper Contest

Progresso contacted me to ask if I’d be willing to spread the news about their “Souper You Debut” contest for the chance to win a full makeover in New York City.

Did you hear that?

A FULL MAKEOVER IN NEW YORK CITY!

Plus roundtrip airfare, a two-night stay in a NYC hotel, a $1,000 wardrobe shopping spree and personal consultation at a New York department store.

DUDE! I want to win! :)

To enter all you need to do is:

Go to www.Progresso.com/SouperYou to learn more and enter the contest

Submit your essay (200 characters or less) telling Progresso why you love Progresso Light or 100 Calorie Soups and why you would like a makeover

Submit a photo of yourself that visually reinforces the theme of your essay

Right after I publish this I’m totally off to enter it myself! And if any of you win I’m making you promise to take me along. ;~)

The Super Contest

The second contest, not quite as spectacular but still fun! Fellow bloggers can enter to win the progresso prize pack displayed above. It includes the Progresso mug (VERY cool), a digital jump rope and two cans of Progresso Soup.

To enter all you need to do is copy and paste the code below and put it in a post as your entry. It can be it’s own post or just tacked on to one you already plan to write. Then simply leave a comment here with a link to the post so I can check it out. I’ll pick a random winner next week.

I entered Roni's Souper Duper Contest!
Check out Roni's Weight Loss Blog for more information.

This is what it looks like…

I entered Roni’s Souper Duper Contest!
Check out Roni’s Weight Loss Blog for more information.

For all the non-bloggers who want to enter, don’t fret! I have away around this need-to-have-a-blog-thing (although it sounds like a pitch.) Simply sign up for BlogToLose and use your free blog space there to enter! It’s really easy and you’ll have a space to enter for future contests, even if you decide not to blog anything else. Actually you can use it to enter other blogger’s contests as well. :~P Just a thought. Having some blog space comes in handy some times. :)

So there you have it, 2 Souper Duper Contests! :) Good Luck!

Full Disclosure: Progresso contacted me and asked if I’d be willing to spread the message about the contest. They sent me some soup samples and one of those fabulous Progresso soup bowls and jump rope.

A few weeks ago you may have noticed that picture on twitter. I had the unfortunate job of taste testing a couple of margaritas for a review on the site. I know. I know. It totally sucked. I mean who wants to spend a night in with their husband sipping margaritas and watching netflix movies.

Ahhhh Who am I kidding. I had blast!

Here’s the deal… Baja Bob shipped me Lime Margarita Mix and Mango Margarita Mix, both were a box of 10 pack singles. I made one of each. Ok, ok, maybe 2 of each. ;~)

Both flavors were good. My only complaint would be the mild sugar free after taste but that’s to be expected… the mixes ARE sugar free. To me it’s a small price to pay for 0 calorie margarita mix. That’s right you heard me.. ZERO CALORIE.

Your average restaurant margarita is at least 300 calories. They are normally gigantic and full of sugar. Using a sugar free mix the only calories in this margarita will come from the tequila, which I believe is about 70 calories an ounce.

Not too Shabby for a cocktail!

Now… due to a mix-up in shipping I received extra boxes of each flavor. I’d love to give them away. Just shoot me a comment below if you are interested and I’ll pick a random winner this Sunday. It’s coming from me so I’ll ship anywhere.

Oh! if you are interested in the ingredients click here for original and here for the mango.

I’m off to bed… getting up early and going for a run tomorrow before work!

It’s been forever since I’ve done a good old fashion Food Find. Now that I’m getting comfortable in my new home I feel I can spend a little more time grocery shopping and stocking (I’m very much a buy in bulk stock-er type of shopper so the whole temporary living situation for that last 2 months really crimped my style).

Just in case you were wondering, Food Finds are products that just happen to catch my attention while shopping. They aren’t paid reviews (which I don’t do) or products that companies send me to try. I post them as Product Reviews. It’s been so long I thought I’d take a minute to clarify.

Anyway.. let me get to this 1 point chocolate cup from heaven!

Can you tell I liked it? It was the perfect ending to my lunch today. I packed some leftover Dried Herb and Yogurt Marinated Pork…

…and one of these cups. It was perfect, like my own little TV dinner. I love the idea of having a sweet bite after a savory meal. And it’s even better if the sweet bite is only 60 calories!

The texture was super light and airy. To be honest I’m not sure what traditional mousse is "suppose" to taste like but I don’t care. This totally hit the spot for me and was a nice change from original sugar free pudding cups.

There are two other flavors, Caramel Crème and Chocolate Indulgence. Has anyone else tried them?

Oh! and I can’t find them on the official jell-o site so I’m guessing they are pretty new.

Oh My Word!

I just finished my very first Chocolate Mint VitaTop and I’m in heaven! It was exactly what I needed after my long day. Chocolaty. Refreshing. Totally Deliscious!

But before I tell you more about it let me give you a quick update…

I squished in a 5 mile run this morning and I did it in 48 minutes. I was shocked and it felt GREAT!

The in-laws have left but before doing so, helped us immensely. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

The POD will be gone tomorrow and we will be handing back the keys to the apartment this week.

We are officially in the new house! We have food in the fridge and FINALLY a couch to sit on! :)

We cooked our first meal tonight after a long day of unpacking.

We aren’t even CLOSE to being done but we don’t care. We have a home and that’s all that matters.

That’s it in a nutshell. The meal I cooked was nothing fancy, just a few hot dogs, some backed beans and quick sugar snap peas but… I made it, we ate at home, and it FELT GREAT to do so. Strange I know.

After dinner we cleaned up, made lunches, gave the little guy a bath, organized the bathrooms and settled down to relax a little bit. I’m exhausted!

I was also a little hungry. So I deiced to pour a small glass of Light Chocolate Soy Milk and try one of the new VitaTop that Vitalicious shipped me. I was totally psyched to see Chocolate Mint. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Chocolate Mint. It’s one of those flavor combinations that’s just hard for me to resist and the VitaTop totally delivered right out of the freezer. I didn’t even let it defrost as I knew the chilled harder texture would be even more refreshing paired with the mint. And it was! There were even quite a few thin chocolate chips that added a great crunch when frozen.

Paired with the small glass (about 4 oz) of Light Chocolate Soy milk it was a really satisfying chocolaty snack for just about 3 points. The VitaTop is 1 and the Soy milk is 1 but added together I’m pretty sure the nutritional info totals 3. EIther way, it’s totally a great filling dessert.

Ok, I gotta go. I really am exhausted and it sucks that I have work tomorrow. I really wish I had another week of to get organized. But I don’t. So I’ll do what I can when I can.

I totally had to share my new tip to cure the night time sweet tooth. This one’s for all the chocolate mint lovers out there, like me. :~)

A few weeks ago I wanted something sweet. I was craving hot cocoa but was all out of light and didn’t feel like making my own. So I turned to tea. I bought a green tea sampler
a while back and I’ve been experimenting. Fist my Berry-licious Pomegranate Oatmeal and now Chocolate Mint Tea!

Here’s what I do. Boil water (duh), steep my mint tea bag for about 2 minutes, drizzle 1 tbsp (17g) of light chocolate syrup and stir until dissolved.

That’s it! It totally satisfies my sweet tooth on cold winter nights for a mere 25 calories! That’s a measly .5 points! I round up to keep myself honest. :~)

Honestly, I’m getting addicted! It’s my new nighttime habit. And yes, I’m sipping some right now! ;~)

It’s been a long time since I had a Twinkie and to be honest I wasn’t THAT big of a fan. I mean, don’t get me wrong, as a kid if someone offered me one I wasn’t going to turn it down but I was more of a Devil Dog, Ring Ding girl myself. So when Weight Watchers asked if I would try their new Golden Sponge Cake I said SURE! But I was really hoping for something chocolate on the inside. :~)

The cakes really do remind me of miniature Twinkies. The cake part is airy and the filling is super sweat. The only difference is they are about 1/2 the size. I’m not kidding they are almost exactly half. Let’s do a little side by side comparison…

Weight Watchers Sponge Cake

Good Ole Twinkies

size

.88oz

1.5oz

calories

80

150

Fat

3g

4.5g

Fiber

3g

0g

I’ll let that speak for itself. Ok, now, I can nicely agree with all the other bloggers who have reviewed this product and say things like "it’s a great option and a nice treat for those following Weight Watchers" but…. I gotta be honest.

Yes they taste good! The first ingredient is sugar.

Will you be satisfied after 1? maybe.

If you eat more then one the aren’t you better off eating the actual Twinkie? Especially if that’s what you want in the first place?

Maybe I’m out of line here but I don’t understand why Weight Watchers, the brain child behind the CORE plan, the geniuses (saying this non sarcastically) who came up with the points system, the program I know and love would sell these types of products. Seriously, I can’t even type out the ingredient list it’s so chock full of crap I can’t pronounce. I’m tired of people selling us "diet" foods that are just smaller versions of the food we actually want to eat with a bit more fiber added in to make us think it’s healthier. Come on people, we aren’t morons!

WOW — let me step down off this soapbox….

Ok, now that I got that out of my system I’ll say this. They do taste like twinkies and we will finish the package. I am a believer in everything in moderation but I won’t be buying these for a few reasons…

I’d rather experiment and make my own cakes at home

There are other convenience products that have a better nutritional resume and

If I really want a twinkie I’ll buy a darn twinkie and pray I have the resolve to cut it in half. If not I’ll enjoy my 3 points snack as I just ate 2 of the Weight Watchers cakes for 3 anyway.

This is more of a food re-find. I started buying these back a few years ago and have been meaning to post about them every since! I forgot about them (not all stores carry them) for a bit until coming across them again last weekend.

These are one of my favorite Quaker Products. They aren’t "Rice Cakes", which have a reputation of being bland and boring, they are "Multigrain Cakes", and cinnamon to boot! You can’t go wrong. The texture is yummy and and each cake as the perfect amount of sweetness.

Made with Whole grain rice, corn and oat flours these are a snack I love to share with the toddler. He’s been munching on them since he entered finger food age.

Quaker has the nutrition information and ingredients listed nicely on there snack page but I’ll give you a sneak peak, 50 calories a cake, 1g of fat, 1g of fiber, 1 WWP.

Anyone else out there a fan?

While grabbing my whole wheat english muffins at the store yesterday, these gems caught my eye. I never saw them before and when I picked them up I knew I had to buy them. They were soft, big, 100% whole grain and 1 point!! So I ditched the english muffins (for the week) and decide to give these a try instead.

Oh My Word! SO Good. I made this sandwich on one this morning. A little, sliced turkey, turkey pepperoni, laughing cow, baby spinach, tomatoes and spicy mustard, it was DELICIOUS. I can’t wait to get one of my burgers on one! The best part, I think I can pass these by the husband as a hamburger bun, they are just so soft, I can’t see him complaining!

Another positive (as I know this is a concern for some), no High Fructose Corn Syrup! There is sugar listed on the ingredient list but thats only after the whole wheat flour, water, wheat bran, yeast, and cellulose fiber. Nutritional information… 100 calories, 1g of fat, 6g of fober, 2 g of sugar, 5g of protein per bun!

Can you tell I’m excited! :~) I love finding new stuff!

Update: I did it! Made my Southwest Turkey Burgers and used them as a bun. SO good. Click to check out the video post on GreenLiteBites.

The nice people at the POM blog asked if I’d be willing to review there Diet POM Tea. Being almost an exclusive water drinker, I appreciate the samples as I hardly every look down a beverage aisle.

So I’m drinking one right now and I’m really liking it. It has a nice light sweetness without the artificial sweetener aftertaste that a some diet drinks have. And so it shouldn’t, the only ingredients are white tea, Pomegranate juice, fructose, erythritol, Pomegranate Antioxidant extract, Blackberry juice, natural flavors and citric acid. I’m liking this trend of “diet” drinks not loaded with artificial sweeteners.

One bottle is two servings so I’ll provide the nutritional info per bottle. Coming in at 70 calories, no fat and fiber, of course, it’s 1 point a bottle. Not too shabby when you want something sweet and refreshing to drink!

I have to admit, I’ve been sipping on it while writing this and watching a movie (can you say multitastker) and it has prevented my night time sack fest by curing that craving for “something sweet”.
