There are pictures scattered all over this blog. I try to do Wordless Wednesdays so I at least post one picture a week but normally these are not of me or my weight loss journey. I am not a flickr fan so don’t ask.

Traditional Before and Afters
Comparison 1 – Sitting
The picture on the left is me at a party in college, summer of 1999. I remember those pants very well I loved them! They were my favorite baggy jeans, a size 14.
In comparison the picture on the right is my at a 4th of July BBQ this year (2006). The thing I love about this picture is my arms. I was always conscious of them but no more!

comparison 2 – Face
The left one was me at my heaviest (nothing to do with pregnancy) This was December of 1999 when graduating with my Masters Degree. The one on the right is my May 2006.

comparison 3 – Family
This is a nice family comparison. The picture on the left is us September 2005. The right is April 2006. That’s only 7 months! I was on a mission. :)

comparison 4 – Body Shot
These pictures were taken exactly 1 year apart. Ever summer we vacation at the shore and on the last day we take a family picture. Well the one of the left is 2005 and the one of the right is 2006.

comparison 5 – Face II
Look at my hair!! I kind of miss the buzz cut. :(
The left is December 1999. I was graduating with my bachelors. I think I was in the 170’s. The right is me at a happy hour with friends January 2007.

comparison 6 – Standing Shot
The left is me in graduate school fall of 2000. Right is me (not smiling for some reason) March 2007.

What's Cooking in my kitchen?

Finally my first Farro idea! I have to say, I love this stuff! It's chewy and yummy and, well, fun! I tossed it with what I could find in my pantry and it made a wonderfully satisfying lunch. Filling but not heavy, tasty and quite nutrient dense. According to NutritionData.com this [...] -
I've seen it mentioned in a few of my clean eating and healthy cook books but honestly, I never even thought of Farro as an option for me. I refuse to shop at specialty stores and I try to use only common products that I can keep in stock and purchase from a typical grocery [...] -
I've never had a tuna melt. Is that weird? I guess that's what happens when you grow up not liking mayonnaise. I never ate tuna salad or egg salad or chicken salad. Honestly, they always kind of grossed me out. Then I realized.. hey.. why does tuna salad have [...] -
I have no idea where this idea came from. I was hungry. It was lunch. I had Brussels Sprouts. That was all the catalyst I needed.:) I decided to use a slice of real bacon to add flavor and little fat that would help sauté the sprouts. I'm trying [...] -
WOW was this good. I mean seriously good. It's not vegetarian so don't start throwing stones. I'm calling it a Garden Vegetable Burger because I use the new Laughing Cow Smooth Sensations Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese Spread. It was this recipe on Allrecipes.com that inspired [...] -
I drink water 99.9% of the time but every so often it just doesn't cut it. I want something else. Something more. Something slightly sweet. Today was one of those days. I decided to make a refreshing drink based on the famous Arnold Palmer, half lemonade and half iced [...] -
The other day I made a whole chicken on the grill in pieces. It was delicious! Just a little BBQ sauce and an open flame is all I need to make The Husband happy in the dinner department. I also picked up a few ears of corn from the grocery store. They aren't in season [...] -
Let me explain so you don't think I'm making a chili recipe and just put it on pizza. I'm calling this vegetarian Chili Pizza because chili is what inspired flavors. I think I told you. Little Bean is really into, well, BEANS! We go through a can about every 2 days. Yesterday [...] -
I've confessed my inability to follow recipes here on GreenLiteBites many, many times. I don't know why it's so hard for me. I can barely follow some of my own and I wrote the darn things! I think most of my problem stems from not having all the ingredients listed and, [...] -
Leftover brown rice and leftover sauce meet in this quick lunch idea inspired by my favorite food of all time: Pizza. I swear I can turn anything into a pizza concoction. Have you seen all my pizza ideas? I've used everything from pumpkin to zucchini, polenta to wontons. Nothing is off [...] -
This isn't a recipe just an idea I had to share. I can't believe how good it was! I've never had grilled pineapple. Can you believe it? I just never really had the desire to grill it before. When you love something raw sometimes it doesn't occur to you to cook it. [...] -
I whipped this up for lunch on a whim today because, well, I have a baby who's obsessed with three things… Cheese, Beans, and Avocado. No, really. Look... It's my go to meal for him so I find myself with beans and avocado readily available. [...] -
You know that tradition 7 Layer Mexican Dip? The one with the cream cheese, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, cheese, green onion and olives? Yea. That's the one. Well I had a craving for it the other day. Well, not exactly for it as I can never make anything the way it's suppose [...] -
If you go through the archives of GreenLiteBites I have about 5 total beef recipes. Five. Compare that to the 80+ I have tagged with chicken/turkey there's a clear winner in the meat department on my blog and in my home. I don't have a beef with beef (omg The Husband [...] -
I'm a kitchen sink smoothie maker. Whatever I have on hand goes in the blender and viola! A quick breakfast or a healthy snack. Last year I posted an "Elastic Approach" to how I make smoothies but I still like to share specific combinations that worked really well. This was one [...] -
The other night it was just the kids and I home for dinner and I decided to make what I wanted to make no holds barred. Without The Husband home it's much easier for some reason. Hmmm wonder why? Ok, not here to husband bash.. really.. I'm not! I'm here [...] -
*sigh* I was really hoping to share an awesome turkey burger idea. I had grand plans for my leftover ground turkey. The results was alright but they could have been so much better. I added diced pineapple, red pepper, green pepper, oats and soy sauce to the meat and formed 2 patties. In hindsight I [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday having no idea if it would work. To my surprise it did AND the husband actually said he liked it... UNSOLICITED! Here's the story. I had only 4 tilapia fillets defrosted for dinner. I knew it wasn't going to be enough for us [...] -
This is a slight reboot of a recipe I posted last year simply called Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili. Staying true to my use-what-I-have-on-hand roots I, well, used what I had on hand and made a similar dish with a spicy twist. Topping the result with avocado added a cool creaminess that [...] -
Did you hear? The Laughing Cow recently launched Smooth Sensations a line of 5 cream cheese spreads. There's Classic Cream, Classic Cream Light, Strawberries & Cream, Garden Vegetable and my favorite… Cinnamon. It's a sweet wedge of creamy goodness! Today I decided to use my new favorite flavor [...] -
Confession time, I recorded a 30 minute video making this with both kids (partally) 2 nights ago. I miss videos. I really do but they seem so much more difficult with 2 children. I'm also having technical difficulties with my video recording and audio syncing making it VERY time consuming to edit. [...] -
A couple of years ago I shared a modified version of Sloppy Joe's I made for a party. Everyone loved it but I've been wanting to try to make something similar for the family on a smaller scale and without the pre-made canned Manwich sauce. I don't particularly have any issues [...] -
Yesterday I was dreaming about a salad. Not just any salad, but a chickpea filled, cucumber, and red onion salad with a fun, tangy dressing. Unfortunately, I had no cucumber or red onion. Well, that's a lie. I had a half of cucumber but it was a mushy mess and [...] -
Dinner meals are getting harder and harder for me to share lately. I've gone back to just whipping things up without really measuring anything (this meal was going to be one of those until I realized I still had enough light to take some photos.) I've also instituted a few brainless meal nights [...] -
Three years ago I posted a video called "Makin' Hard Boiled Eggs" where I shared my system for, well... making hard boiled eggs. Genius name, I know. I'm smart like that. Anyway, since then I've gotten tons of feedback and comments thanking me but all the information is locked in a long winded 10 minute [...]

You have done so well. I have alot of inches & my face isn’t round any more – it’s thinned out. I should get more pics taken. I had to tighten the lace on my jeans today NSV!

I am getting ready to go to my first WW class tomorrow. I have been thinking and thinking about it, and have been so worried that my willpower will not be there to stop me when theres good food around. I want it more than most anything, but it can be so hard!!! Your website is such an inspiration!!! I’m going to save it and when I feel like giving up, I’m going to come back to these before and after shots and see that I will lose the lbs in time if I keep working hard for it.

Wow! You look terrific :) I lost 68 lbs 4 yrs ago and joined the army, over the past year I gained quite a bit back :/ I joined the LA weightloss program and it was rediculously restrictive and I stopped it. I have had a problem with my stomach since I lost all the weight and I paid for a tummy tuck that I am having on the 27 th of this month. Now looking at your photos I am really wondering if that was a bad idea. Maybe I should have attempted to lose alot more weight before this as now I am almost the size you were when you started losing. The surgery cost me double what yours was and if I cancel and reschedule I lose 1/2 my money and I have already scheduled the time off :( I was just wanting to know a bit more about your recovery from the tummy tuck, and just as far as personal advice goes do think it would be worth the money loss to wait? I am so unsure and I really wonder if I should just lose the money join WW and really apply myself as I did before. Just wondering from someone’s perspective who had the surgery how difficult it is to recover from and whether it is a bad idea at this point in your opinion.
Thanks,
Amber

Roni,
Wow! You look fantastic! I recently had a baby (December 2006) and was looking for a site that would help keep me on track. I stumbled across yours and it has really helped me. I weighed myself today and am proud to announce that I have lost 29 pounds in 3 months. Much of it is because I have been keeping up with your site and your success has kept me very motivated to succeed myself.
Keep up the great work!
Becky

First ,I have to say that your results are great. I have 3 kids and I am trying very hard to get back to before I ever had kids. At 36 yrs. old, it is difficult. I am back at pre-third-baby weight in 9 months. I have added strength training and running, which is helpping with the whole metabolism slow down. I want to keep going. I couldn’t help noticing ,in your body shot picture, the bruise on your leg. I noticed this because I seem to bruise easily when I diet. Do you know why this happens? Do you take vitamins too?

You look great! I’m 5′9″ too and will make lifetime at tomorrow’s meeting – at 169 (hoping to eventually be under 160). Your stats make me wonder if I should lose ANOTHER 20-30 pounds. I guess I’ll just see how I feel in the next few months. Congratulations on your progress!

Roni,
You have done a wonderful job in such a short period of time. You look amazing and so different now. I have been on WW for more than 18 months (this time around). I have lost 30 lbs so far, but need another 20 to reach goal. You have inspired me to keep going and not give up. Thanks for Sharing your Journey!

I just gave birth to my second son two and a half months ago. I gained 60 lbs with each pregnancy. I lost all but 10 before I had gotten pregnant again. Now after the initial chunk of weight has come off from doing nothing I have to work on the remaining 35 lbs.
I’ve been pouring over websites for inspiration. I think yours has really jump started me.
I have done w.w. 3 times before, succesfully…well till now.
I’m hoping to open up more time to cook, your recipes look great.
Thanks again for doing this.
Did you ever hit a plateau with Weight Watchers? Summer seems so hard for me to get to mtgs but I know I have to get back, been discouraged with exercising and WW and it going so slowly. Seem to hit a plateau, any suggestions?
You are an inspiration to anyone w. this struggle!
Wow, I weigh 211 right now and my son is 11 months old so I can’t really use the “I just had a baby” excuse. You look so much more vibrant in the now pics and it reminds me of the confidence that I use to have when I was thin. I am trying really hard and I skipped happy hour with friends tonight because I knew I couldn’t resist $5 all you can eat tacos or 2 for 1 margaritas. Thanks for the inspiration!
You look absolutely amazing!!! You’re an inspiration!
Wow!!
It’s like two different people on the photos!
Wow! Congratualtions Roni! :)
Ironically my highest weight was 210 as well. I lose 20 lbs 18 months ago and have pretty much maintained it, which I am grateful. I will lose more.
I think you look beautiful in the before and after photos.
Thank God! I found your website again…you are a great inspiration! I was on ww after I had my baby girl 18 months ago! Just had baby number two and I am ready to start again.
Thank you for your amazing recipes and photos. Before I got pregnant w/my son I was down to 179 making great progress toward my goal of 155 now I am back up to 232! Wow!
My husband and I are going to Hawaii next year… and I want to be bikini ready!
Thank you again for sharing! You look great!

Hi Roni,
My name is Dawn Wellington and I found your site the other day – I love it and I love your podcast! I work for a company that invented a weight loss product (Mary Lou’s Weigh) that recently became available to the public. I wanted to see if I may send it to you (for free) for you to try.
I thought you’d enjoy using this product for two main reasons:
1) I heard you talk about your love/hate relationship with the bathroom scale. 2) Mary Lou’s Weigh is perfect for people who are trying to lose weight or who continue to maintain their weight loss. Please read below for details. I look forward to hearing from you.
If you like it, I’d love for you to post something about it on your blog (if you want to). Either way, I’d personally like to get your thoughts on it.
About Mary Lou’s Weigh:
Mary Lou’s Weigh (named after Mary Lou Retton, Olympic Gold Medalist) is a revolutionary new scale. It’s a non-judgmental way to help you track their weight. Mary Lou’s Weigh logs your weight, but will never tell you how much you weigh – you’ll only be told how much weight you’ve lost or gained. It keeps you aware of what’s working so you can respond before you gain (unlike the pants method). Mary Lou’s Weigh helps keep your eye on a positive goal. It gives you proven, actionable advice each day and it’s easy to use. It only takes 20 seconds of your time daily.
The Mary Lou’s Weigh Platform motivates and guides you through an achievable 10-pound weight loss with audible feedback (yes, that’s Mary Lou Retton talking to you), including music, applause, fun electronic tones, helpful health tips, positive reinforcement and daily messages of encouragement. After the 10-pound goal is achieved, the Platform resets automatically so you can either maintain your weight, or go for another 10 pounds.
For more information, go to http://www.marylousweigh.com.
Thanks! -Dawn
I found your site through a friend and I want to THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Your story is an inspiration. I have struggled with my weight my whole life and when you were at your heaviest, we actually look like sisters. I have bookmarked the vast majorities of your recipes and I am so excited to start cooking them for me and my husband. I will let you know how it goes. We are determined to do this together. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Hi. you look pretty good, maybe you should try the older short hair with the newwer slimmer body, would probably be pretty hot.
Roni:
I have been on your site many times and get a lot of good ideas from you blog. I’ve always wanted to say that I think you look great in ALL of the pix. I’m happy that you are living a healthier life but you are beautiful now and were beautiful even before you lost the weight.
Best of luck to you and your family.
Wow I can not believe that was you.
You look great and I am sure you feel better.
I am so hoping to get my head wrap around this program. I am having alot of troubles. Well that a whole differ story.
Great job and keep up the videos with your son. He is so cute.
You should totally try the buzz cut again! I think it’s kick-ass
WOW!! I think you look so fabulous!! My belly looks a lot lot yours did. I am only 21 and i have two kids. A 3 year old and a 4 month old. I have been thinking about having the procedure done, and you are such an inspiration!! Seeing your journey through the whole thing makes me wanna get it done so much more!! Thanks so much for sharing your story.
Do you have any topless before and after photos? How much smaller did your boobs get?
amazing! You look fabulous! Your story is so great and exciting and inspiring. Thanks for sharing it. I look so forward to reading more!
YOu inspire me tremendously. I had 2 babies back to back, 14 months apart, am obsessed with my weight and have never gotten it all off. My boys are now 31 months and 17 months. I started running in June, fractured 2 bones in my foot and was off exercising for 4 months, now am back at it but my foot is starting to hurt again. But seeing your photos and reading about you, give me the umph to get right back at it! Even if I can only do sit ups! Thank you! Congrats for being on CNN today! I’m sure this has given you more exposure than you could have ever imagined! Keep up the good work! I now will follow you as your site has been bookmarked! :-)
i have gone on a similar diet since the unexpected death of my uncle. he accidentally overdosed on blood pressure medication. being that i was 35 y/o and also on bp meds and crestor to control cholesterol, i perceived his death as being my fate in the very near future. so, on feb. 20, 2009, i told my wife that i was going to change my diet and start exercising. i have lost from 245 lbs to 175 on nov. 2, 2009. i went from a size 44 waist to a 32! just keep up the good work and remember the reason you began all of this to start with!
You look lovely, but did you have a nose job? Just wondering, your nose looks very different from your before photos. You look great but, I wonder…….
Kelly – nope.. the nose is all mine. :) My face did change a lot from the weight loss though.
I too am back on weight watchers. Ive been on it before and when I lose about 10 or 15 pounds, I get off track and then I end up gaining back the pounds I lost plus some. Your site is wonderful. It’s nice to see the progress you have made and it is very inspiring. I love your recipes. Ive tried the salad topper recipe and love it. I have about 30 pounds to lose. Hopefully I can stay on track and reach my goal! Thanks for sharing all your recipes. Do you have one for chicken spagetti? If you do, could you please post it?
chicken spagetti? Do you mean something like this. . . http://greenlitebites.com/2009/02/01/naked-chicken-parm-idea/ ?
This before/after is friggin amazing! I love how people can find beauty, given the determination!
Seeing your before and after photos helps me to understand why people are so shocked when the see me now, after a 50 pound weight loss. You look gorgeous and remarkably different!
[...] I cannot believe how many request I’ve gotten to do a before and after photo now that my hair is short again. I never realized that my hair growth kind of ran parallel to my weight loss. Strange. Anyway.. I feel, in a way, back to my old self with the new do. I missed my short hair more then I now miss the long. This Friday I’m gonna have fun with some color! Click here to see more before/after photos. [...]
Roni, you look GREAT! And, you have an ADORABLE family.
Wow Roni you look great! Thanks again for that tip a few months ago regarding the 3 Bean Chili (I’m @BigManShrink)! I did make it even though my cooking skills are almost non existent! You’re an awesome inspiration..keep up the good work!
Well they aren’t NON existent. You made chili! ;)
great website, great story. very inspirational. well done
