Hey guys! I finally feel like I’m finding a bit of balance again. I’m trying to take my own advice and hold on to the What You Can When You Can mindset without overanalyzing, selling myself short, comparing myself to others and (the kicker) trying to be perfect.

I have yet again come to the conclusion that I am my own worst enemy in almost all areas of my life where I think I’m struggling.

That said, I’m here to share today’s Whole30-esque food journal and a quick note on blog comments.

I have decided to follow more of a Whole30 approach to my diet after having some pretty nasty digestive issues when returning to a more lax and semi-junkish food choices. As per my usual, nothing is off limits but I’m focusing on the Whole30 food list with the addition of rice, quinoa, some alcohol and not worrying so much about added sugar here and there. It’s been a few days and I already feel 100 percent better. Way less bloat for sure!

Pre-Breakfast (No Picture) 

I was up at 5 and decided to get my butt to the gym. I noticed that when I wait and think, “Oh I’ll just do it after work,” that it sometimes doesn’t happen. I simply get too busy and distracted. So I’m back at doing it first thing whenever I can.

Anyway, I grabbed a banana on my way out the door.


Today’s workout was killer and when I got home, even though my stomach was growling I has ZERO desire to cook. So I made a quick smoothie.

Well, it ended up to be the best smoothie ever! Even the 10-year-old agreed! It was …

  • 1/2 banana
  • Frozen mixed berries (including cherries amd cranberries)
  • Spinach
  • 1/4 avocado
  • Pasteurized egg whites
  • Coconut water
  • Cocoa powder

Mid-Morning Snack

Once I got the kids off to school I had a few chores to do around the house. I cleaned up, made rice and quinoa for tonight’s dinner, got a little work done  (see note about comments below) and practiced guitar. In the middle of all that I used the rest of my homemade chicken broth, added some leftover cooked chicken, and and enjoyed a bowl of super simple chicken soup. It totally hit the spot.


This weekend I made myself a wonderful chili-like dish for weekday lunches. It came out amazing! I didn’t really take notes to post on GreenLiteBites as it was very similar to my last recipe, chicken, sweet potatoes and apple stew. Truth be told I’m losing my motivation to post on GreenLiteBites because I’m eating cleaner and cleaner and my dishes are all pretty weird and similar — protein, veggies and spices in a pot. Plus sometimes, being exact enough to share a recipe sucks the fun out of it. I like to be organic about it and just throw stuff in the pot. When I do I end up with yumminess like this…


My latest creation is ground turkey, eggplant, mushrooms, a jalapeno, a large sweet potato, cumin, thyme, and homemade chicken broth. I top it with cubed avocado that I cut at work.


I’m staying away from wheat for the moment as I think it may be one of my digestive culprits so I turned a dish I normally make with homemade pasta into a rice and quinoa one.


That’s shrimp, broccoli and garlic sautéed with coconut oil and olive oil and then tossed with the quinoa-rice mixture. It was delicious!

A note about blog comments… 

Now that blogging isn’t my full-time gig I’ve been finding it hard to keep up with all the little tasks that need to be done when managing websites. One of those tasks is comment management. Today for example I logged into RonisWeigh only to discover more than 23,000 spam comments – –  some captured by my spam checker plus about 100 that were not.


I have to do a massive clean up every few days not only here but also on GreenLiteBites — TheUnworldlyTravelers not too much but that’s because It’s a fairly young, unpopular and rarely updated blog (I hope to remedy that soon).

Anyway, this morning I finally had enough, so I decided to turn off comments on any posts older than five days old. Instead of the comment form on older posts you will now see this message:

If you’d like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I’m so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I’d have to do this but it’s gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

It really sucks that I have to do this as I LOVE when I get comments on old posts,  which happens quite a bit actually. However, if I have to decide between blogging and comment management, I choose blogging. I’d much rather continue to journal and connect with folks on social media than manage spam.

Blogging has sure changed over the years and this feels like the next chapter in a way. When I started message boards were about the only “social” media I really utilized besides my blog, and now I connect with so many people in so many other ways. If feels like it’s time to embrace that times have changed.

    Your meals look very yummy. I did a whole30 mid September, did really well through November and then went completely off the rails in December. So January 1st I set out to do a Whole60. I made it to day 57 and made the conscious decision that I was ready to let it go and just eat a regular meal out with my family. I plan to continue to eat mostly whole30/paleoish going forward. I love the way my body feels and the way it impacts my workouts. Like you I want to not worry about added sugars in my condiments but stay away from dairy, flour and corn :( I feel okay leaving those groups out because I value the way my body feels more than the taste of any food. I go on a trip to a nice tropical location soon and I will enjoy all the food and drinks for that week and probably start another whole30 then to clean myself out and get back on track.

    Wow, what a shitty thing those spammers did! I’m sorry you had to wade through that.

    As for losing your mojo to post on GLB, I’m not sure if I’m in the minority here or not, but I LOVE recipe ideas….no need for measurements, just a list of ingredients is such a great jumping off point for those of us who don’t really follow recipes anyway. :D

    And the wheat thing…girl….I finally figured out back in October through trial and error that I have a very serious (but not quite Celiac level) gluten intolerance. Since quitting gluten (man that shit is in everything….I’m looking at you soy sauce & malted barley in Rice Krispies!!) I haven’t had a single migraine. I’ve been plagued with them since age 9 (dare I say, I’ll be 44 this summer). My skin is better, my sleep is better, my aching guts are better. I hope it helps to eliminate wheat (and if you need to, barley, rye, oats and all those other sneaky places where trouble can hide). It was challenging for me at first, but it’s ok now.

    I really want to eat a “Whole 30 esque” diet, too but I struggle so much with balance. I am either all in, or all out and that makes it very hard to keep up with anything “most of the time.” I loved the way I felt when I did Whole 30 but its just not possible for me to keep up with that strictness long term, and every time I have tried to do it again, I always give up after a few days or a week. Mainly because there is added sugar in almost EVERYTHING. I am excited to hear about your food choices coming up with this whole 30-esque plan! :)

    I am about to go on vacation (tomorrow) – after that I will continue with my 98%Whole30. I really noticed a difference when I am less than 98% compliant for a couple of days. Gut issues returned, aches and pains returned – I forgot that I had them….. This was a great experiment that has turned into the new normal for me! Thanks for the push.
