Hump Day, Dump Day

Hey guys! I don’t really have a  plan for this post so I’m just going to start typing. That always helps me get over a case of “blogger’s block.”

Monday’s post — a confession of sorts — really helped me get my act back together. I’ve been making much better food choices and I’m just really more motivated overall.

I’ve still beeN feeling weak at the gym, which is the exact opposite of last week when I felt like I could take on the world. Everything is just hard right now and it’s taking all of my energy just to put myself in motion, but once I do momentum takes over and then I feel fantastic afterwards.

I haven’t run since Sunday but I’m going to try to get out for at least a couple of miles tomorrow. I don’t have an official training plan for the half in May, but my goal is to increase a mile every Sunday and try to get 1-2 runs in mid-week. I normally do something at the gym daily so it’s not as if I’m inactive. I just don’t run as much as I used to.

On the food front I’ve been caving into The Husband’s requests to eat lunch out. Mostly because I just want to spent time with him and frankly, it’s just easier and more fun to go out than meet at home. Plus, he works at home so I completely understand his need to get out of the house. I’ve been there.

Dinners, however, I’ve been killing! Yesterday I made tuna steaks with an amazing soy-ginger grilled zucchini on the side that I was hoping to post on GreenLiteBites, but truth be told I couldn’t find my camera before we sat down to eat and I decided it wasn’t worth going crazy trying to find it. I’ll just have to make it again and share another time.

Tonight, I fired up the grill!

I made steaks, baked potatoes and the most amazing grilled cauliflower ever! Everything else on there is actually leftovers I just warmed on the grill.

Today I had my half-hour guitar lesson and it was so fun! I’m learning lots of chords to play “Patience” by Guns N’ Roses. I still suck but I just keep reminding myself I never thought I could do pull-ups either and, well, now I can! Plus, I can see my own progress. I’m remembering the chords, I don’t need to look at my fingers as much and I’m getting more confident.

The kids are good. I don’t blog about them as much now that The-10-Year-Old is, well, 10! He’s got his own life and friends and doesn’t need his mom to embarrass him on her blog all the time. I totally get it. Right now he’s playing Rainbow Six Siege while I type this. I’m watching him collaborate with his friends online to save hostages. It’s pretty wild.

Tomorrow The 4-Year-Old turns 5! He’s so excited. I asked him where he wanted to eat dinner and he chose a Japanese steak house where they cook on the hibachis in front of you. Every time we’ve gone in the past he shied away from trying to catch the shrimp in his mouth (it’s part of the chef’s show) but he told me, “Now that I’m 5 I’m old enough to try to catch the shrimp!” It was so cute. I can’t wait to see if he actually does it tomorrow.

We had that conversation while walking to school this morning.

I covered at least a half a mile with him on my shoulders. I was thinking about running home but decided to walk instead. It was nice to just soak in the sun and think before starting my crazy day.

That’s about it. The Husband and I are kicking off a bottle of wine and settling in to watch “The Americans” but first I’m sneaking in some guitar practice while he plays The Witcher now that the kids are going to bed.

    I love your pics of the grilling meals- I need to find a bunch of them and put them on a single sheet on my fridge as a reminder of balanced grill meals!
