Bear Mattress — A Review

24 Comments 2549 views

I’m not going to lie, being a blogger has some perks. Like getting a free mattress to review!

Crazy, right?

Scott from Bear Mattress could not have reached out to me at a better time. The Husband and I were already planning on mattress shopping soon but we’ve been putting it off because, well, who likes to mattress shop?

Plus, we really don’t have the cash at the moment. I’m pinching every penny we do have for my travel aspirations next year. Without the conference, my yearly “salary” (if you want to call it that) plummeted and the gym job doesn’t even come close to covering the difference.

But that’s another story, this post isn’t about money. It’s about a mattress!

Yes, that IS a mattress in a box. I wouldn’t have believed it either!

The Bear Mattress has been engineered with both advanced foam and Celliant technologies. We worked with experts around the world to design a mattress that is universally comfortable, improves sleep quality and increases your energy. Sleep is as important to your performance in life as diet and exercise, and we believe the Bear Mattress will exceed your expectations and improve your life.

I was skeptical at first…

“Celliant technologies”

“Experts”

“Improve my life?”

It’s a mattress and comes in a box — how great can it be?

I decided to record our entire experience…

As you saw in the video our initial reaction after the first night was “thumbs up” and it’s still thumbs up!

Frankly, I can’t believe a mattress out of a box could be as comfortable as this. I’ve been sleeping like a rock lately with a lot a less waking up in the middle of the night.  I can’t be sure it’s the mattress but it isn’t hurting, that’s for sure!

My only gripe with it seems so minor but it’s worth mentioning. I have an Ikea bed that happens to have a high frame around the entire mattress. When I sit on the edge of this mattress to, say, put on my socks, I tend to sink into that frame. I guess you can say the mattress’ outer edge isn’t as stable as a traditional mattress. However, lying on it I don’t notice any loss of structure, it’s just when you are on the very edge.

That’s honestly the only “con” I could come up with.

My “pro” list is much longer:

  • Ships to your house
  • Easy to set up
  • Easy to move
  • Comfortable
  • Sleeps cool
  • Made in the USA

The Bear Mattress website has loads more details and other customer reviews, click here to check them out.

Part of my review includes a coupon code for you. Simply use the code RONI75 for $75 off through the end of October. I know buying a mattress online seems crazy but the coolest thing about this company is their 100 Night Trial. They offer free shipping and returns and a 10-year warranty. Not too shabby for a mattress shipped to your door!

I have to say this company seems like the real deal. The owner was super nice and I’ve really enjoyed working with them.

If you decide to give the mattress a try, you’ll have to let me know. I can’t be the only crazy person to have a mattress delivered to my house in a box. Or maybe that isn’t as crazy as it sound anymore. I mean, it is 2015.

Leave any questions in the comments and I’ll get them answered for you the best I can.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. Bear Mattress sent me the mattress to review free of charge.

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

So you can get a free mattress and other stuff when you have a blog that only has one to two comments on it per post? Only in America!

Comments aren’t a measure of success in blogging. Not sure if you realize that but a blogger who’s been consistent over a 10 year period, has a steady group of subscribers and social media presence and is active in the community, yes, brands reach out to them.

On average my posts are read by thousands of people (and that’s only the week it’s published – it lives forever online and in search results) so advertising with a blogger who may not get comments but has eyeballs is pretty cost effective for smaller brands who want exposure with the demographic who reads my blog.

We just bought a “mattress in a box” too and love it. I didn’t think I would, but it’s been fantastic thus far. Really enjoyed your video too, it’s fun to get a glimpse at hilarious family time. Also, I think it’s great you get free stuff – not sure why anyone would give a rip…sounds more like someone is lacking a good night’s sleep…perhaps from a bad mattress. ;)

Thank you so much for the review. Mattress shopping is so frustrating! Plus it’s not like they are cheap! A couple of years ago we bought a sleep number bed after some recommendations from friends (funny, it also comes in a box). I have to be honest – I’m not a fan and miss my old traditional mattress. However after seeing your review, I’m intrigued. So it’s not too smushy (except at the edge)? I used to have an Ikea bed so I know what you are referring to with that. Thanks!

We bought something similar on Amazon, off-brand, for only a few hundred dollars. I was super skeptical, but I can’t imagine sleeping on anything else now. We even bought a twin size for my daughter’s bed. I didn’t know I was getting bad sleep until I started getting good sleep.

We bought our teenager a foam mattress and I was amazed at how comfortable it is, not to mention it’s super easy to change the sheets because it’s so lightweight. Our mattress is overdue for replacing and we’re definitely going foam this time.

I’m in the market for a new mattress and I appreciate reading about your experience with this one. And for the record I am a faithful reader of at least eight years. I very rarely comment, this may be the second time. That comment above irritated me. I rarely see a sponsored post here, so when I do I am confident that Roni is offering a truthful review of the product. Thank you for your honest opinion.

That was fun! So great to see your family in the video… i think that’s the first time we’ve heard Bill’s voice! The mattress looks really comfy – if the bedframe is an issue, would you consider putting the mattress direclty on the floor, oriental style? Oh, and I would bet big bucks your kids play with that box for a good week before they get sick of it. :)

Your first commenter was a pill, pay no mind. Mattress shopping is HARD, so it’s nice to hear about all the pros of this one, and the ease of getting it, and the length that you can try it out. Definitely food for thought, thank you!

Thanks for the review Roni! The husband and I are getting ready to move into our first house and one of our big “want to buy”s is a new mattress. Our old one has just had it! I just learned of the mattress in a box (I think I was living under a rock?) and I absolutely love the idea. It also seems like most of the reviews I’ve seen for these have been overwhelmingly positive. And even the ones that aren’t super positive, the company’s will usually return the mattress for free. Of course, most of these companies are all “made in USA”, which is huge bonus points! :)

    Very, very cool!

FWIW, great response to your first commenter. As anything with the internet, there is *always* more going on behind the scenes than what the person sitting behind the screen sees…

I am so intrigued by these mattresses. Some work friends have tried a few as well, and I’m so tempted now.

My son, after finishing his master’s and moving, bought a mattress in a box. Not sure if it was the same company, but it had the 100 day deal too, so it might be. He loved it. He kept it. Bought a frame, after he was sure he was keeping it. I was highly skeptical when he first mentioned it. But it worked perfectly for him.

    Ignore your green eyed commentor
I do have a question…can you use these on a box spring? We do not have a platform bed.

      Hi Jamie! Bear Mattress said…

“Yes, the bed works on a boxspring, a platform bed, a foundation, an adjustable bed base or you can just put it on the floor!”

      Hope that helps!

Good lord what timing. I have been thinking that when The Kid moves out next spring, we would do well to buy a new mattress for what will once again become our “guest room.” And DREADING the process, the cost, the whole thing. This might be the perfect solution!

Will the code still be good if it’s months before we purchase?

NM I just re-read and see it’s good through October. Will bookmark for later use!!

Hi Roni! I don’t usually comment but I read all of your blog entries. That first comment really made me angry. I can’t stand people. Anyway… I thought that this would be good for my son. We’re going to be transitioning him from a toddler bed to a double soon and really aren’t looking forward to the mattress shopping. I’m not sure if we’re going to be able to do it before the end of October though. Will keep this in mind as we begin our search.

Are you still using (and loving) this mattress? I’m looking for a new one and as I was googling I remembered this post. I’m torn between Tuft and Needle, Bear, and an old traditional mattress for super cheap.

I use an electric blanket in the winter so I can keep my house cooler. Cuts down on the dry air. My question is can you use one with the mattress without causing damage? I also Googled and found your Blog!

So do you still like your Bear Mattress? Did you compare it to any similar mattresses? I’m mattress shopping right now and would like to know your thoughts.

I sleep on it every night. Love it and have no complaints but never compared it to any other mattresses.
