So you may have noticed my post frequency has been decreasing. This is a conscious decision and one that I’ve been contemplating for awhile.
As I’ve said a million times (exaggerating, of course, but it sure feels like it) this blog has played a huge role in my transformation from insecure, body conscious, serial dieter to a confident, fitness-loving, kale-eating, adventure seeker, but it’s time I focus less on talking about it and more on living it.
Don’t get me wrong! I’m not going to NOT blog — I love it too much to give it up forever — I’m just relieving the pressure I put on myself of doing it daily. Frankly, I simply don’t need it as I once did. I’ve grown, matured and am ready to move on — it’s so hard for me to say that for some reason. I feel like I’m letting you down and I don’t know why. As a smart woman once told me, “Isn’t change the reason for all this?”
It is and I have changed. A lot.
Plus I’m older and have a lot of other things to keep me busy like raising the boys, promoting my book, cooking (something I want to do even MORE of), TRAVELING (even though I’m out of money), and for some crazy reason I started taking on web development clients again — I miss the geeky, development stuff. Weird, I know.
All that to say, I will no longer be posting daily food journals. Instead (thanks to Sara who commented about it) I will be joining the What I Ate Wednesday (#wiaw) crew and posting one day of food journals a week to give you an idea of what an average day looks like for me. Of course I’ll still be posting food ideas over on GreenLiteBites too. I’m hoping one day to take cooking classes as it’s becoming more and more of a passion for me.
So here goes… my very first #wiaw…
After an AWESOME morning at the gym where I hit a 5lb push press PR (personal record) — 133 lbs I still can’t believe it!
I came home and made a quick smoothie as I was in a rush to get both kids off to their respective camps and had a few errands to run — one of which was a haircut at a local barber. I’ve given up salons — they just don’t cut my hair short enough!
I didn’t measure anything for the smoothie but I will make it again and share more details on GreenLiteBites because it was FANTASTIC!
I know it looks pretty gross and when I tell you what’s in you’ll probably make a face but trust me, it was DELICIOUS! I simply blended a banana, ice, half a bag of baby spinach, cocoa powder and … wait for it … pasteurized egg whites — and YES they are perfectly fine to eat raw and DO NOT make the smoothie slimy — to make this quick breakfast. I’ve also heard (I’m not a dietitian or trainer so take anything I say with a grain of salt and look it up for yourself) but you digest the protein in pasteurized egg whites faster than if you cook it making it a great post-workout shake addition — here’s more info on eggs if you are interested.
This was great on the run and tasted like dessert. I will for sure be making it again.
Fresh cantaloupe. I didn’t take a photo. It seemed silly. :)
Went out for sushi with Ryan and The Husband. We split a bunch of rolls and unfortunately I forgot to take a photo. I literally walked out of the restaurant and said, “Crap, my first What I Ate Wednesday post and I already forgot to take a pic!” And it was pretty, too. We got one roll with lump crab meat on top. Delicious!
We basically stuck with the basics, California, tuna, cucumber, and one tempura roll but I only ate one piece. I try to stay away from them. There’s too many non-fried awesome ones to enjoy.
These fried green beans.
I found them at my local grocery store and they are even better than the Trader Joe’s version! Sweet and crunchy!
The doorbell rang and it was the UPS guy dropping off a package. Steve’s PaleoGoods sent me samples to try so I taste tested a few things.
I have to admit, I wasn’t that impressed. The beef jerky was just OK, not the best I’ve had. The “bars” were all crumbled and tasty but nothing to write home about. The best thing in the bag was the dried strawberries but that’s because they tasted like candy. I couldn’t buy them or I’d eat the whole bag in a sitting and it’s 5 servings, which is a LOT of sugar.
If you’re paleo I’m sure they offer some great options. I’m not, so after tasting I didn’t find anything I’d HAVE to buy.
Super late dinner. My in-laws came down from PA to watch the boys for us and I knew there were going to be late. I made a FEAST!
That’s BBQ chicken, grilled broccoli, grilled Brussels sprouts, and I had BBQ brown rice in the house on the stove. I wanted to leave them some leftovers since we’d be gone for a few days.
That’s it. I’m not eating anything else today. I’m good!
