My 10-Minute Yoga Challenge

This past Saturday I went to a fun clinic at the gym about Olympic lifting and it was fabulous. Our instructor was emphasizing how important stretching is and said we should pretty much stretch as much as we lift.

I was taken aback. I don’t even come close to stretching that much!

I stopped going to Bikram because the time commitment is just too much for me right now and I can’t find another yoga studio nearby that has classes that will work with my schedule.

I’ve been thinking and talking about incorporating more yoga for months and then it finally hit me: I’m overcomplicating it!

I can do it at home. There are tons of resources online and even on the TV.  I know the basic moves. All I need to do is to DO IT! I can #wycwyc it!

So I’m challenging myself to 10 minutes of stretching and yoga before bed.

    As I read the 1st several lines of your post (I thought why doesn’t Roni do it at home?), then I happily read your next few words. I’ve been stretching at home and after training for decades, nothing fancy. I still easily touch my palms to the floor while most girls on my swim team never could. It doesn’t have to be Yoga, 10 minutes is good to start, but daily.

    Good for you! Yoga is such an important thing to keep integrated into everyday life, and if you can’t find a group, doing it at home is easily the next best thing. I wonder if you might be able to create a group to do it with via Skype maybe? For others with a travel or time crunch issue, or possibly lacking the funds to do so? You might end up with more people than you realize, I bet there’s many more in similar situations and we all need support.

    Try yoga with Adriene on YouTube. She has a 30 days of yoga for free! I’m on day 12, it’s quite challenging and very peaceful.

    Roni, I just love yoga, and you’re right – you don’t have to complicate it! I have to remind myself of that point, too. Even doing 10 or 15 minutes is great. The stretching feels SO good. I do a little stretching after every run and walk I do, and for a while there I was doing yoga regularly. I need to get back on it, so maybe the 10 minute thing is just what I need. There is nothing like it, truly. :) Enjoy!

    Happy to hear you’re doing some yoga again! I’ve been doing yoga weekly with a local teacher I’m super lucky to have around here. We have a fantastic diverse class of people at all levels, shapes, and sizes. So, for anyone who is reading this and thinking, I’d like to try yoga but I am too (big/clumsy/new/inexperienced/old/etc) – yes you can do yoga. It’s for everyone!     Hi Roni,
    I really enjoy yoga & feel like my strength & flexibility has really gotten better since I started doing it. Like you I went to a class for a few months & learned some of the basic moves, but than stopped going. Than, like you, I figured out I should look for some yoga on the TV & record it on my DVR. I found a 30 minute yoga program on TV, called “Power Yoga” with Adrienne Reed as the teacher. She’s great & I really enjoy the classes/programs. She offers lots of different classes & during most of them I find myself sweating. I just recorded all the episodes & saved them on my DVR. Now I do them approx. 3-4 times per week & again, I really do notice a difference. GOOD LUCK & keep on WYC WYCing!!! :))

    I love Erin Motz on Youtube, she gives really great instructions and her old channel was BadYogi, so how can you go wrong with that!
    And a little stretch yoga is supposed to help you sleep better!

    10 minutes of yoga per day can have a huge positive impact if you do it consistently. I do mine every morning. It’s a great start to the day.
