Another Snow Day

This morning, despite going to bed a whole hour later, I got up at 4 a.m.  I laid there for about 30 minutes debating with myself if I should get up, wondering if it was snowing and curious if my gym would be open. Finally I said, screw it and just got up. I figured there was no sense fighting myself and even if I did fall back asleep my alarm was set to go off at 5:15 anyway. 

To my amusement I looked outside and there wasn’t a flake of snow. Not a flake. I knew it was still coming but still, it made me laugh. Everyone was in emergency mode last night closing schools and offices and here it was still well above freezing temperatures. I thought about how amusing it would be if we ended up not seeing a flake. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

I got dressed and fumbled downstairs and decided to look at the extra hour as a gift instead of being angry about my inability to sleep.

In it we talk about breaking habits, living consciously and I issued a challenge to myself (and you if you want to join in the fun) to clean one drawer or cabinet a day for the next week. I started the one drawer thing for New Year’s but life got in the way and I just never picked it back up.

20150305_050108For the challenge I decided to start with the kitchen. This morning, at 5 a.m. I seized the extra time and tackled the Tupperware/water bottle cabinet.

I mean… look at it! Ugh.

I’ve been shoving crap in there for months. The sad thing is it’s not even my worst one. The island cabinets are even worse. I don’t even know what’s in them anymore!

Once I got started it took exactly 11 minutes.

I still had a good half hour before I needed to leave for the gym so I decided to make myself a warm breakfast for a change. Normally I either skip food all together or just grab something simple to eat in the car. Today I made a version of my new 10-Grain Power Breakfast idea but instead of almond butter I stirred in those Hemp Hearts I got the other day. It was SO GOOD!

I made it to the gym and it finally started to snow. Good thing, too, considering EVERYTHING was already closed. The school, the government, even the salon I had an appointment canceled all appointments in anticipation of the storm. It was crazy!

I spent the day with The Boys and it did end up being a winter wonderland out there.

I dabbled in the kitchen with some butternut squash and ground beef.

SO GOOD! I will hopefully be able to get up the recipe tomorrow on GreenLiteBites.

The kids and I also tackled a drawer together.

The pen and pencil situation was a little ridiculous.

Before dinner we headed outside to dig out and play. The kids had a blast!

That’s about it on this snowy day. I got a little work done here and there but for the most part I decided to just go with the flow and hang out with the kids.

Now I have to figure out what the heck I’m going to do tomorrow!

    How was your energy level at the gym after your yummy breakfast?

      More hungry is good and to be expected, you stoked the fires earlier and have much more energy to burn. You were hungry, but how was your energy level all day long? How did you sleep that night?
      You and Carla are hilarious in the podcast:). What are the headphones/mic you are using? Does it glow? Your voices are really clear as a bell, the audio is really sharp. I only watched the 1st 10min. I’m planning hangouts and podcasts too.
      Loved the WW diaries, you’ve had a great Journey!
      Sorry for your snow, I’m going for a bike in the sunshine and looking forward to the balance of your podcast when I return, Bye.

    I so need to clean my kitchen cupboards – things fall out when I open them. How do they get that junky???
