Our Tuesday Tradition: Planting the Foundation

5 Comments 2040 views

Every Tuesday night for the past few weeks I’ve been bringing both boys to the gym with me. They take a CrossFit kids class and I work with the Olympic lifting coach. Afterwards we go to Chick-fil-A for dinner. It’s kid’s night so they usually get their faces painted or come home with a balloon animal. Then we take baths and go to bed (Something I should be doing right now but this is too awesome not to share).

Today after class Ryan came running into the Oly room all excited. He wanted to tell me about his workout. He asked me to follow him. At first I thought he was going to walk me through the circuit or something but then he showed me the board.

I was like… “Holy crap! They had you do all that?”

He said, “Yup, and I finished first!” with a smitten look in his eyes and a smile on his face.

“You finished first? That’s a tough workout for me!”

He just nodded.

I smiled, put my arm around him and said, “That’s awesome!”

Foundation planted.

(P.S. I asked if I could take his picture by the workout with a thumbs up and he said, “No, but can you post the workout without me though?” — He’s so cute and getting so big. I love and hate it at the same time!)

Wow that is so awesome! I think you are helping your boys see exercise as fun. I wouldn’t want to do that workout. Way to shape them by example.

Thanks! My goal is to really make them active, productive, healthy adults. I’m trying!

aw that is awesome! Not just the workout he completed but that he felt proud of himself and wanted you to be part of that. (I have no clue what some of those cross fit terms even are, lol). So cool that you are introducing your boys to fitness in this fun way. I read somewhere that kids who hear, “I love watching you…. try, play, sing, share, etc.” really take-in the message and get motivated.

Wow. I think it is awesome how you have involved the boys in your passion of movement. I do not think all parents realize what an impact they have on their children. How they can influence them. I think it is so wonderful how you have included them in this aspect of your life. Oh how I wish my parents had wanted to include me in their activities when I was a kid.
