What do you #FlatOutLove?

41 Comments 4071 views

I’m so excited to kick off the year with a challenge! And a sponsored one at that!

Flatout Flatbread Wraps reached out last month to see if I was interested to do a giveaway but I sold them on a challenge because, well, they are more fun.

They left the challenge details up to me and I pondered for a bit. With the new year there are so many people making resolutions like weight loss, clean eating, and more exercise, so I was on a mission to do something different and inspirational.

I got the details from Flatout and they mentioned their current hashtag, #FlatOutLove and that’s when it hit me! A simple #FlatOutLove Challenge — Perfect!

This week I’m challenging you to take at least 10 minutes a day doing something you LOVE, something that brings you joy, makes you smile and helps you feel balanced.

Sometimes it takes a little effort to carve out time for yourself but I’m convinced it can do wonders for your well being. I don’t know about you, but when I’m  happier everything seems easier and less daunting. And with lots of us returning to work, school and our routine tomorrow it’s the perfect time to kick off the New Year by taking a small step to bring just a little more joy into our lives.

Today I did just that.

I colored.

Coloring

I have always loved to color and draw but it’s one of those things I just stopped doing as I got older.  I took a drawing class a few years back but as soon as it was over I stopped again. Life just got to busy and I pushed it to the bottom of the priority list.

The hardest part of this challenge for me is going to be shutting off my brain…

Evan is entertained. I should empty the dishwasher. There’s a few emails I should get back to. Did I pay the electric bill? What are we going to have for dinner? The living room could really use a vacuuming. Maybe I should start that article I need to write. Did I sign Ryan up for soccer? Where’s my phone?

I’m wired to constantly manage. I spend so much time taking care of everyone and everything I can’t shut it off. That’s why I love the gym so much. It’s the one place I go where I can easily shut out the outside world and all my responsibilities.

This week I’m on a mission to rediscover all things I #FlatOutLove like coloring and drawing, and hope you’ll join me. All I’m looking for is 10 minutes a day. If your hobbies are more time consuming then spend your 10 minutes doing what you can to enjoy your #FlatOutLove in the near future. For example, if you love horseback riding but haven’t gone in years, take 10 minutes tomorrow to research horse farms in the area. Look for Groupons or Living Social deals. Schedule an outing. Make the effort now so you can rediscover and experience the things you love later.

That’s what I’m doing for my rock wall climbing obsession. I can’t just pick up and go tomorrow so instead I plan on contacting my friend who can belay and scheduling a date with her in the near future.

“Giving yourself some loving attention is not selfish. It is sensible. If you feel loved and cherished — even if it is only by yourself — then you will have more love to give to others, too.” ― Penelope Quest, Reiki for Life

#FlatOutLove Challenge Details (January 4-10)

To participate in the #FlatOutLove Challenge, all you need to do is leave a comment on this post stating at least one thing you love that you’d like to rediscover this week. Then devote a minimum of 10 minutes a day to making that love happen.

Leave at least 2 additional updates on my posts throughout the week (I’ll be posting my updates) letting us know of your progress. On Saturday (I’ll be posting a wrap up post) share what you learned about yourself by participating in this challenge.

10 winners who meet the above criteria will be randomly selected to receive a Flatout flatbread sample pack including:

Flatout Flatbread is sponsoring this challenge and hosting a sweepstakes on Flatoutbread.com. They are asking people to tell them what they “#FlatoutLove” for a chance to win a Fitbit or products. Stay tuned for some coupon codes they will be sharing with me as well. Oh! And you can join them at your local Walmart for in-store demos and samples Jan 9-11.

Please show them some love on social media using the #FlatOutLove hashtag. I’m so excited they inspired this challenge and that I get a chance to work with them.

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I #flatoutlove making family photo albums. I’m so far behind, though, because of the hectic nature of my life. So, this weekend I’ll spend 10 minutes a day working on the year 2013! Thanks for the inspiration, Roni.

I love Zumba and haven’t been to a class in months. Even if I can’t make a class this week, I’ll You tube some videos and do at least 10 minutes each day.

I “think” I love cross country skiing and this challenge is going to help me rediscover my love for it. I cross country skied in college a few times and really enjoyed it and that was 26 years ago! This week I’m going to research trails, look for Groupons for trail passes and book a lesson at one of the Nordic trails. That should take at least 10 minutes a day (or more!)

I really really love to read and just get absorbed in a book, especially right before bed. I don’t always make time for it, though, and end up dropping into bed exhausted and going right to sleep. My poor book sits there neglected. This week I will make it a priority to get to bed at least 10 minutes (hoping for 20!) earlier so that I can actually get in some reading time.

    love this idea.
I love doing jigsaw puzzles and got a few for my birthday in November. This week I plan to start one and spend some time doing it each day (the dishes will still be there when I’m done!)

I love to teach myself new things and my next thing is learning how to knit. I am excited and can’t wait to finally commit the time to do it. I think I can handle 10 minutes a day.

That’s awesome! I love learning new things too. Was thinking about how I used to do cross stitch in high school. I may have to hit the craft store. :)

I love doodling and hand-lettering. I did tons of it when I was in high school and college and have long since fallen out of it. I would love to pick it back up!!

I am guilty of the same thing and I don’t even have kids. I do it with family a lot though- thinking “Hmm, what could I be doing right now?” or feeling guilty when I have down time to simply be present and take it slow for a day. It can be tough!

I totally want to color right now though…haha. Also #flatoutlove =clever!

I #flatoutlove ME! Not really, not all the time….but I need to! This is a tough one for me…but I commit to taking 10 minutes per day to think about ME and concentrating on things I love about myself…rather than things I need to change or make better. this is going to be easier said than done…but something I definitely need to do! :)

I #flatoutlove ballet. I danced as a child and a bit as an adult. I’ve signed up for an adult class during this semester even though I’ve gained about 15 pounds recently. I’m worried about not being able to complete the steps accurately because of my size. I am going to work on barre exercises and stretching for 10 minutes every day to get ready for the first class on Saturday.

I love to cook and bake, but with no time lately. I saw the best recipe for a healthy whole grain bread you make from scratch. I’m going to carve out some time and make that bread this week.

What a great idea for a challenge, and will be challenging, indeed. I would like to read more AND improve my running. To that end, I havfpirchased several fitness-related books in the past year, which have literally been collecting dust. I will challenge myself to spend 10 minutes each day catching up on that reading. And lucky me, it so happens I got started a couple of days ago!

I #flatoutlove cooking new recipes! I’m going to take the time to make some new healthy recipes! I’m going to spend the time to find some recipes, shop for them, prep them, and then make them! Doing all the work will lead to a great payoff in the end!

I’m sad to say it took me several days to figure out what I wanted to do for the #flatoutlove challenge! I finally settled on singing. I #flatoutlove it and never do it for some reason. So I am going to take time to make a playlist of songs I love to read, burn a CD or two for the car (I know, so old-fashioned), get new strings for my guitar, and actually sing! Great challenge :) It really got me thinking about what I truly love and want to make time for.

I used to love to go for a run every morning before work, but we relocated to a new town in a new state, and I haven’t run once. The worst part about that is that this town has a great network of paved trails to run on. Right now we are in sub-zero windchills, but when the weather gets a little closer to freezing and above, I want to get back into my old routine.

I have rediscovered my love for cross country skiing! Today was the culmination of this past week researching, planning and finally doing! Today hubby and I took a lesson at Keystone Resort in Colorado. It was a beautiful, warm sunny day and we met our instructor, Jan with much anticipation. She sized us for shoes, skis, and poles. We then spent the next hour listening, learning and doing! We practiced our starts, stops, turns, and falls, yes falls. After our hour lesson we had lunch then went out on our own. What an amazing day! So much fun spending time outside and especially with my hubby. We are already planning our next outing! Thanks for the challenge – it pushed me to get out of my box and and rediscover a long lost love.
