I’m trying not to be angry as I write this but I just lost 2 hours of work in some mysterious file corruption and it’s pissing me off but… I’m moving on.

Anyway, I had a FABULOUS New Year’s Day! The kids and I made chocolate chip pancakes and I tried to get cute…

The 9-Year-Old was unimpressed. I believe I may have even gotten an eye roll.

I thought it was fun but then again, I’m a big dork.

After breakfast I headed to the one class my gym was having and spent an awesome hour with these amazing folks.


We did a KILLER workout, which I modified slightly by running instead of rowing.

  • 1K Row (I ran 1200 meters instead)
  • 100 Wall Balls (14lbs but I used 16 as we were all out)
  • 20 Rounds of
    • -1 Clean & Jerk (95 lbs)
    • -5 Air Squats

I KILLED it with a time of 23:58.  I mean, I really felt amazing during and afterwards. I can only guess it’s because it was noon instead of 6 a.m., which is when I usually work out.

I hung out at the gym a bit and then hit the grocery store on the way home to pick up a few things for dinner and the week. We decided to ring in the new year with a seafood feast so I made crab balls again (we had them on Christmas Eve, too.)


I’ll post a detailed recipe on the GreenLiteBites tomorrow but basically all they are is crab, a little bread, and Old Bay held together by egg and a touch of yogurt. The Husband goes ga-ga over them.

Roasted brussels sprouts tossed in a bit of bacon fat and maple syrup. They came out SO, SO GOOD.

Other than that today has been pretty low key. I’m not making an grand New Year’s plans. No resolutions. No big goals. Nothing. I’m just working on feeling confident and at peace.

    Confident and at peace sounds like an awesome goal to me! I’ve got a few things I’ve planned like reading more, crafting more, etc., but my biggest goal for 2015 is just finding balance in my life again. Things were decidedly unbalanced the past few years when I decided to go back to school, but now that I’ve finished my degree, I’m definitely looking for some harmony and balance again! Happy New Year to you and your family!!

      I’ll *definitely* miss being there, too! Fingers for crossed for 2016, assuming I can squeeze out a couple of vacation days for it. I’ve booked a three week cruise from Hawai’i to Australia via French Polynesia and New Zealand that year which is going to take the bulk of it.

    Roni – In response to the Fodmap article, I would like to suggest that you try different brands of dairy. I have noticed when I buy milk products at a certain grocery store, in my neighborhood, that I always get the symptoms you described, but when I buy at other stores, I don’t have the same issues. I have tested this and am not mistaken about it. Also, raw nuts have a bad effect on me. Now, I always buy roasted, or if I am having unroasted nuts, in oatmeal for example, I microwave them in with the oatmeal. These changes have really helped me.
