2 #FlatOutLove Moments at Mom’s

15 Comments 2286 views

Well I made it to Mom’s last night just after midnight. She was scheduled as the first surgery of the day and I had to be here in the morning to take care of my niece.

Everything went well on all fronts. I’m staying a day or two more so my stepfather doesn’t have to rush between hospital and home as it’s an hour and a half away.

I got some work done in the morning (MORE book editing!) and then headed out to visit a new local CrossFit affiliate for a lunch break.

So begins #FlatOutLove Moment No. 1.

I love CrossFit. I can’t help nor hide it any longer (not that I really was). When I first started I wrote a post explaining why I love it so much and promising it wouldn’t take over my blog — that was two years ago!

These past two years have been awesome. I work out at 6 a.m. 5 days a week pretty consistently. I feel a part of the community. I look forward to my hour with my friends. We encourage and support each other, and every day I’m amazed at what I’m capable of doing. It’s more than an hour of exercise. It’s an hour of confidence and strength building. When I leave I feel empowered and ready to start my day. It’s so ingrained in my routine now that I truly miss it when I can’t go.

Knowing I would be at my mom’s for a few days, I researched a bit and found a local affiliate here that had a class I could fit into my schedule. Thankfully there was one, and I nervously walked in alone.

Immediately I was greeted by a couple of trainers. I told them why I was there and asked what their drop-in policy was. Within moments I felt welcomed, and as cheesy as it sounds, “home.” (Side note: this doesn’t always happen. I’ve visited some not-so-welcoming affiliates but Venomous CrossFit in Luzerne is awesome!)

The trainer asked if I wanted to do a partner workout with them and I agreed. It was INSANE!

I had to modify it slightly so I did:

The way the partner aspect worked was one person would do a round and then rest while the other did their round. Repeat until both partners finished 5 full rounds.

It was crazy and I felt amazing afterwards! Honestly, it was the first workout ever I almost considered quitting… but I didn’t.

When I left I was starving. I decided to pick up a few things from a local grocery store and do another thing I absolutely love.

May I introduce #FlatOutLove moment No. 2…

A pot of sloppy chili. I know it’s not the prettiest thing to look at but damn it was GOOD!

I’ve always loved to cook but sometimes I get caught up in the details and the photo taking. I’m constantly trying to come up with something the kids will like or a mass appeal idea for GreenLiteBites where I’m distracted by the technique and the measurements. Honestly, it starts to suck the fun out of it.

So today, in honor of the #FlatOutLove Challenge I cooked for ME — no recipe, no measuring, no worrying how I would communicate it or what other people will think. It was So. Much. FUN! And the result was a warm pot of awesome chili, which my stepfather devoured by the way!

In case you are curious, it was ground beef and ground pork browned with spices (garlic, onion, cumin, chili powder, hot pepper flakes) and mixed a can of pumpkin, chickpeas, salsa, hot sauce and chopped fresh spinach. Don’t ask for any more details than that because I don’t know. I was just in the moment, enjoying the process of cooking.

Did I say this yesterday? I’m REALLY loving this challenge. Spending time reminding myself what brings me joy is so energizing. Do you agree?

I’m off to check comments to see how you guys are doing before I pass out. I’m exhausted!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I’m totally new to CF, but is that a normal workout?? At my box, we do a few minute cardio warm up, some technique/skill work, some conditioning, and then a 10-15 min WOD. A few times it’s been longer, but nothing that long!

No! This was a special trainer workout and they asked if I wanted to join them since no one else was there for class. That’s what I mean but it being insane! I mean we usually do one longer chipper a week but not all the time.

Hope your mom heals soon. Sending healing vibes. Today I flat out love the hugs when my kids first wake up, skinny Carmel macchiato, cheesy reality shows in my garage gym, and the end of a long run.

I started physical therapy today for a recent hip surgery. Instead of being depressed about how “weak” I am right now and what I can not do, as far as workouts, I praised myself for working hard and accepted the praise from the physical therapist when she told me that I am well ahead of where I should be and that is because I was in such good shape going in. Today, I was proud of “me” and that is definitely a #flatoutlove moment! :)

I want to start a regular running routine, but the weather these last few days is making it hard. This morning it was only 5 degrees with 25mph winds. That is frostbite weather. This Sunday is supposed to be ion the upper 20’s, so I plan to put in a solid five miles.
