After my youngest was born our Christmas traditions changed. We used to truck up to Pennsylvania and spend the entire holiday at my mom’s with a visit to my in-laws for dinner on Christmas Day. Now we stay home and celebrate Christmas alone as a family, then spend the day after at Mom’s and the day after that at my in-laws. It’s like 3 full Christmases! Hence the name “Tri-mas.”
It’s fun — exhausting! — but fun. The kids, of course, love it. They get to see all their family and open lots of gifts. For me it’s all about spending time with everyone and it’s exactly how I want to celebrate the end of the year.
So the past few days have been a blur. This is, honestly, the first time I’ve been on a computer since Christmas Eve and I’ve needed the disconnection. I’m completely out of my routine and it’s been a nice break but I’m about ready to get back. I miss the gym and my kitchen and not being surrounded by cookies and chocolate and cookies and pie and cookies and cookies. OMG the COOKIES. I’m turning into a cookie. The way I see it I don’t get my family’s homemade cookies every day so I’m going to enjoy them guilt free. I will gladly go cookie-less the rest of the year so I can enjoy as many of Mom’s ricotta cookies as I want.
And I ate a LOT of Mom’s ricotta cookies.
I also had a lot of awesome time with the family. These two make the holidays amazing.
And this guy is just as exhausted as I am.
This is my favorite photo of the day…
Oh and this one when the 3 of us won this year’s Trivial Pursuit battle….
Tomorrow we have one more stop before heading home and then it’s back to our routine. Both kids are home for the week and I’m looking forward to celebrating the New Year with The Husband who nailed this year’s ornament again!
A pile of books in honor of me (and Carla) finishing #wycwyc!!
He’s the best.
Hope you had a great holiday! I’ve got to run and get some sleep to see me through this last day.
