The Happy Thanks-I-Can-MOVE-Giving Challenge Wrap Up!

20 Comments 2402 views

Well, I did it! The Happy Thanks-I-Can-MOVE-Giving Challenge has been a success! I blew the minimum of 30 minutes of movement a day out of the water and I donated 5 bags of clothes, toys, and small appliances on Tuesday!

I didn’t check in yesterday because I was wiped! I hit the gym, made soup out of the leftover turkey, went shopping with my mom, played chauffeur for The Husband and his dad so the didn’t drink and drive and watched movies with my parents. It was another awesome day.  As for my note of gratitude, well this one is simple: I’m grateful I found a dress for The Husband’s Christmas party and a new winter coat for The 9-Year-Old, both 60% off!

I didn’t take any photos of the dress but here it is online. I love it! So simple and elegant. I’ll be sure to take a photos at the party.

Today we said goodbye to everyone, ate lots of leftovers and cleaned the house. It was exactly the quiet, relaxing day I needed after hosting everyone for Thanksgiving. And I’m grateful The Boys were on board with my plan to clean and organize. It was a total family affair and now the house is ready to decorate for Christmas tomorrow!

I can’t wait to read everyone’s challenge updates. I’ve been enjoying your comments all week and I’m curious if you experienced the same gratitude begets gratitude begets happiness phenomenon I did. I found myself just a little more joyful this week, noticing lots of small things that made me smile, like right now.  The Husband just got back from bringing The-3-Year-Old up to bed and he’s making me a drink. We have a date to cuddle on the couch and watch a movie alone for the first time in days and just the thought of it is making me happy.

On that note, I got to go! Leave your #TGChallenge updates below and I’ll pick winners Monday!

So glad you have had a great holiday. I have surprised myself how easy this challenge has been. The day that was going to be the hardest, thanksgiving day ended up being great. A friend asked me to go to a turkey trot with her. Her family bailed on her. I was dreading getting out by myself in the freezing cold. Friday I walked to yoga and then biked.

Almost forgot the most important thing. I’m grateful for my fitness friends. I have established a great network of likeminded workout buddies. Also super thankful for all the family time we have had this week.

Hi Roni, I’ve been commenting on the original Challenge post with my updates – I hope that is OK. I think this is check-in number 6 for me. Today I had an amazing, intense hour-long workout with my trainer at the gym PLUS I did about a half hour on the treadmill. It was really hard, but great.

Today I got to spend the afternoon with my mom, and I’m grateful that she is still around and relatively healthy and happy. I love spending time with her – it is always a treat.

I donated a couple winter coats that are a little big on me now, as well as a couple sweaters and pants. I hope they will serve someone else as well as they served me – will try to get a photo posted tomorrow!

Today I went to yoga and did some time on the elliptical. Today I’m grateful that I don’t have a job that requires me to work weekends. As a nurse that’s not always the case.

I loved this challenge! It made me look for the small joys all week — a special smile, a hug, family reaching out to share joy and a million other little things that made this holiday week one of my favorite memories.

In addition I worked to squeeze in at least 30 minutes of walking each day. Normally I would have taken it easy, this being a holiday. Maybe I noticed the happy moments more often because I felt better about myself!

I’ve gathered up two bags of clothes and will hand them off tomorrow–hooray for decluttering and giving all in one.

Thank you for the motivation and for a reason to push just a little more!

Today I rode my exercise bike for 40 mins, challenging myself by upping the tension for about half the time. I am so thankful for the new generation of my family and friends that is beginning to emerge. In the last two years, SO many of my friends and close family have become parents and it is wonderful to see. This long weekend I got to spend time with my almost 2-year-old niece, my 3 month old nephew, and my cousin’s 12 day old son! So sweet :)

This afternoon I took a big box of miscellaneous items I’d been collecting down to the thrift store near me, which supports the Boys & Girls Club. I have been holding on to these items thinking some day I’ll have a yard sale and sell them, but they really are just cluttering up my house and I’ll never get around to it. Felt good to have that box GONE!

I am proud of the exercise I was able to get in this week, considering earlier in the week I thought a foot injury was going to cancel my turkey trot plans! I walked and did strength training Mon – Wed, turkey trot on Thursday, rest day on Friday and a 3 mile walk at the beach yesterday. My giveaway this week was my time, as I spent Monday evening volunteering at an event to put meals together for the needy for Thanksgiving. So rewarding.

I left all my updates on your original post. I was glad for your challenge because it would have been really easy to skip the workouts and take it easy while my daughter was off of school all week. I’m happy to say that I got outside and did something everyday! Your challenge to donate was my favorite part though – exercise is a habit for me, but cleaning out my closet, no so much! I did donate a big bag of clothes and it has inspired me to keep cleaning things out. This Thanksgiving I am most grateful for my friends. It is my oldest daughters first year in college, and the first holiday I have ever been away from her. And my husband is away at work. It was just my youngest and I but we spent the day with friends and it was truly wonderful.

Yesterday I kept moving by rearranging both my kids rooms and putting their new beds together. I was thankful to be able to give them new beds when they needed them. #TGChallenge
Tomorrow I will be taking both of their old toddler beds and donating them to Goodwill. The tinkerbell toddler bed below and a cars toddler bed.

I did it too! I did the 30 minutes a day, donated four bags of clothing and household items, and wrote what I was grateful for on my FB page. I really enjoyed this little challenge Roni! It kept me centered through not only Thanksgiving Day but the day after, which was my youngest son’s 14th birthday! I even got new ideas to change things up a bit for me next year. Thank you SO much for hosting it all. :D

My TG challenge went great. I exercised each day. I even got my butt out to the Turkey Trot this year. Something I’ve told myself I would do & finally did. In our area it supports the Girls & Boys Club so I felt it was a win for everyone. I donated my almost new blender and books to Hope Gospel Mission which each dollar goes to helping homeless men & women in our area. I have put a challenge to get more “like new” items to them through out the year, not just the holidays. I am so grateful that my life is so full of good.

Thanks again for doing this challenge, Roni. For the first time, maybe ever, I got in some good exercise every day of the week. I plan to continue – even if it’s just a nice 30-minute stroll. Here is a (bad) photo of the three coats I donated this past week – conveniently there is a drop-off box right at my work! I’m continuing to downsize and find new homes for the things I no longer need.

Today I ended up going to the gym and doing another 5K distance on the treadmill, something I didn’t plan to do – but it felt great! I am thankful for a wonderful support system both on the internet and in real life. xoxo

I thoroughly enjoyed the TG Challenge. The exercise part of the challenge reminded me that it is important to always take time for myself when it comes to fitness – no excuses! I managed to work out everyday which was a major feat given how busy the week was. I will admit I was tempted a couple of times to skip workouts, but I didn’t. I felt such a sense of accomplishment after each workout and was proud of myself that I made time to put me first. The giving part of the challenge was great as well. I went through a bunch of my clutter and was able to donate a bunch of coats, clothing and other stuff that I just don’t need or use. It was a real eye opener as to how much money gets spent on silly things that I really don’t need. Also, it reminded me that there are so many people in the world that go without each day and the smallest donations, be it items or money, can go a long way to help others. Thanks for hosting this challenge Roni. It truly was so much fun! :)

Thanks again for organizing the challenge!! We need more of these in our lives. Instead of lifting shopping bags, I decided it was time to start lifting weights again. 30 minutes of weight lifting after a few months of not lifting is a great reminder of why I need to keep at it! I donated a lot of baby stuff, including a game we never ended up playing at my shower. Thanks again!

I didn’t announce as I always wait until I get everyone to confirm the gift. That way if I have to pick a new winner there isn’t any confusion. All 3 folks have been contacted and I’m waiting for 1 more to claim the gift card.
