One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Three Thing Thursday…

4 Comments 1502 views

So much to brain dump, so little time. So I’m limiting myself to 3 things today.

No. 1 Aesthetics <> Fitness

This article on Women’s Health — click here —  really rubbed me the wrong way. After seeing the subtitle:

A trainer reveals the moves that may be counterproductive to your fitness goals.

I figured it was going to a list of exercises to avoid that may cause injuries, because that would, of course, be counterproductive to my fitness goals. But nope, that’s not at all what the article was referring to. It was actual exercises to avoid to, AND I QUOTE, “…help you sculpt the body you really want.”

Listen, if you want to sculpt a specific body then more power to you, but I’m really tired of these types of articles confusing aesthetics and fitness. The author, Holly Perkins, even goes on to say, “Women want a really nice, narrow back…” Sure some woman do want a really nice, narrow back, but frankly I’m more interested in a strong, healthy back that can support my weak, degenerating spine. That’s why I will continue to weight train in a way that makes me stronger and builds muscle.

Ugh. Is this not an example of everything that’s wrong with how we view women’s (and let’s be honest, men’s) bodies when it comes to “fitness.”  Am I crazy?

OK, short rant over.

No. 2. I took Bikram Yoga today for the third time in as many weeks!

I’ve been saying for months I really should take yoga. I need yoga. I want to take yoga. But I wasn’t making it happen. So I looked through my schedule and chose a time to commit to one class a week. So far so good!

This was me and Roxy after class this morning.

Roxy is the studio’s “mascot.” She’s a 10-year-old yorkie and completely adorable!

Anyway, I feel so much better when get at least a little yoga in, especially Bikram. It’s been doing wonders for my injured hamstring, too!

No. 3 FitBloggin‘ is monopolizing all my time

We are 3 weeks from conference go time and I’m in the pressure stage getting everything prepared. After 5 years I’m definitely managing the stress of event planning better but it is taking time away from other things like poor GreenLiteBites. The other day I made this awesome stuffed pork loin and I haven’t been able to post it yet!

I have like 3 other dishes I photographed, too, including tonight’s awesome turkey-spinach pizza that both kids loved!

It’s official. I need a clone.

But that’s not going to happen so I’m just going to keep #wycwyc’ing. It’ll all get done when it gets done. Right?

OK, I’ve got to go. I need some sleep. I have another early day tomorrow!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

#1 – Seriously. I so agree. Fitness and Aesthetics are not the same. You have a nice butt or arms, or whatever. That’s terrific. But that does not equal you being fit or having he knowledge to talk about being fit.
