5 Fun Ways to Dress Up Your Water!

I know they’ve  debunked the 8 glasses of water a day recommendation, but there is no denying it, when I drink more water I feel better, I eat less, and I swear I’m less bloated. I also have a history of urinary tract infections and kidney stones, so for me, water is and will always be my drink of choice.

Usually, water alone is good enough (I’ve grown used to over the years as it is an acquired taste like anything) but I am known to bore easily. When this happens I usually turn to unsweetneed teas but last week I decided to go a different route and experiment with fruit-infused waters.

Every day I pulled together a different combination using what I had on hand. I let each one sit overnight in the fridge and then my goal was to finish the half gallon by the end of the next day. Having a jug ready to go in the fridge made it easy to grab, too.

Here are the combinations I created last week:

1. Cucumber-Mint


I kicked off the week last Sunday with one of my favorites: Cucumber water. I had it for the first time a few years ago at a spa and fell in love. There’s something so fun and refreshing about it. If you haven’t tried it yet you’re missing out. Just throw a slice or 2 in your next water glass with some ice.

I decided to clip a few mint leaves from my garden to add as well. It was a nice crisp addition.

2. Watermelon-Strawberry


The kids loved this one! I just added some fresh watermelon chunks and sliced strawberries. It added a great flavor!

3. Raspberry-Lemon


The kids loved this one too but only because the water was dyed red with just a handful of frozen raspberries.

4. Pineapple-Lime


This one was my least favorite but only because I added too much line. The pineapple was very subtle and it was overshadowed by the lime. Next time I’ll only add 2-3 lime slices instead of a whole one.

Side note: The finger is back! ;)

5. Blueberry-Mint


My favorite! A handful of frozen blueberries and some chocolate mint leaves. I’ve made this one 3 times since last week and am  actually sipping it now.


Notice the Royal Caribbean cup. It’s a running joke in my family because The Husband HAD to get the beverage package on our cruise this spring, which cost us like $140. Totally NOT worth it in my opinion. Mostly because I am a water drinker. So I decided to adopt the cup and get my money’s worth.

Anyway, the blueberry-mint is a great combo and again, frozen berries stains the water a fun purple color.

Do you have any fun water combinations? And the fake flavor squirters don’t count! Hey, to each their own, but I’d rather not cloud my water with a bunch of coloring and sweeteners.

    I recently discovered cucumber water and its fantastic and I also added too much lime when trying lime water – but I have yet to try adding mint, that sounds so appealing… thanx for all the tips

    i had some cucumber-strawberry water at work a couple nights ago. a little cucumber goes a long way! i only used 4 very thin slices but still, the strawberry flavor ended up being kind of “afterthought”ish. still refreshing, though! next time i’m going to go for cucumber-melon. we have both honeydew and cantaloupe at work :) then…. maybe blueberry-lemon.

    I freeze slices of lemon and cucumber and let them do double duty as flavor and ice cubes. Tastes awesome!

    I’ve been adding cucumber a lot lately…I agree, so refreshing! I’ll have to find some of those chocolate mint leaves, I had never heard of them before.

    Thanks so much for the great ideas. I love them all and will give then a try. I’m trying to drink more water but it gets boring after a while.

    This article is so inspiring because I just wrote and performed a food addiction poem and I also started writing for the third time on my weightloss blog. I mentioned water intake in my poem! I know how important it is to be healthy. Especially when you have dreams of careers like being a spoken word artist, singer or other arts. Health and appearance are large parts of your success.     I so totally agree with you that water can get boring so my favorite is to use jamaica for flavoring. I don’t boil the jamaica or add sugar or anything … just let it sit in the water for a few hours … and it’s refreshing and also very, very good for you. Full of antioxidants.
