I really didn’t think I would do it, especially with this infection I’m fighting off.

Saturday I was down for the count, spending most of the day in bed. I never, ever, spend the day in bed. Frankly, I HATE spending the day in bed, even when sick. It always makes me feel worse.

Anyway, I kicked it up yesterday but had to figure out a way to do it without running.  I just didn’t feel well enough to strap on the sneaks so I took the boys on a nice walk in the afternoon.


And took another walk after they went to bed.

Side note: I’m really into the podcasts right now. Between Jillian Michaels, Freakanomics, and Girls Gone Sporty I now look forward to some quiet time to listen!

I’m actually proud of myself for hitting goal without running. It reminded me that movement is still truly my ultimate goal and the most important one, in my opinion anyway.

I really thought I was going to have to run to reach this goal but when I couldn’t. However, instead of saying, “I can’t run today” and doing nothing, I said “I can’t run today so I’ll walk.

That, my friends, is what #wycwyc is all about!

It is possible to reach our goals doing what we can when we can. We just have to stop making excuses when things don’t quite go as planned because nothing really ever does, does it?

    Wow, well done Roni!
    I did the challenge Tuesday – Monday and I’m in uk so will post my final steps in the morning but I’m pretty confident I’ve made it too.

    115,678! My best tip – if you have a pet or kids, take them for a walk (or an extra walk) a day. I took my dogs for just one extra walk a day and it helped put me over what I needed to average each day with just 10 extra minutes of walking!

    Awesome job! I had a bit of a snafu. My battery died partway through one day and then it didn’t properly register the day after I changed the battery. So I don’t really have a way of seeing if I hit the 100K. But I love the challenge and I’m going to till aim for it. I’ve also been wondering what number I could set as a regular 7 day goal: 75K, 80K, 90K, 100K?

    Nice job! I just squeaked past the 100K mark with 100,176. My best tip is to set a goal to get up every hour and walk for at least five minutes. The steps really add up, even five minutes at a time.

    Thanks so much for the challenge and nice job pushing through not feeling well to meet your goal! My total was 102,324!!! Loved the extra motivation to increase my daily steps! Every little bit of movement really does add up! My tip is to add an extra 10 minute walk or bout of exercise somewhere in your day. Doing little things like walking to talk to a co-worker instead of emailing or calling, taking stuff upstairs instead of leaving it at the bottom of the stairs until the next time you go up, parking further away in parking lots, walking to the mail box instead of driving or talking an extra loop around the grocery store before checking out can also make a big difference and always remember that if you have a rough day that doesn’t ruin all the good you did the rest of the week…just move more the next day!!!

    WOW! What a great challenge!! Thanks!! It really motivated me to move! 123,091 total. My tip: Previously I made a standing desk station by stacking wooden shoe racks from Target on top of my desk so my computer is at standing height. This week I started marching in place when I dictated notes. I was amazed at how I was able to increase my steps! I also marched in place when folding laundry. Feels silly but it is good movement!! :)

    100,573 Steps in 7 days.
    I walked my little doggies until they were exhausted!!!
    I haven’t got a working treadmill so I dug my old step (remember step aerobics?) out of a cupboard and walked up and down that in front of the television to make up any deficit at the end of the day.

    Whew – just made it -total steps in 7 days – 100,554.
    My tip: While I KNOW I should get moving for my own health, I sometimes need a little more motivation than that – I LOVE using charitymiles on my phone – I’ve been using it for months and each month I try to raise more money for the charity I have chosen that month – it’s a simple app that runs on my phone during my runs/walks. You earn 25 cents per mile for run/walking and 10 cents for biking – it often pushes me to do “at least” 4 miles a day because I want that dollar!!
    Congrats to all who even tried this challenge – it was fun and I know got me moving on days I would have not!

    Awesome work everyone! I couldn’t do the challenge — tore a muscle doing my Zombies 5k! app. I’m so happy it wasn’t the achilles tendon that I didn’t mind taking the week off. I’ve never done that many steps in a week, but I think I might challenge myself once I’m recovered from my zombie attack.

    I love reading your blog, so inspiring! I challenged my self back on December 26, 2013 to hit a 10,000 step goal each day. I have met my goal everyday since then. That’s 138 days and counting! The more amazing part is that in the same period the year before I only had 10K steps 4 times. For the past week my step total was 103,360. I use a fitbit to track my steps and love it! I use any excuse I can now to just MOVE!

    Ok, so I didn’t get the 100,000 but I tried and I got as many steps as I could on most days. I didn’t get in as many as I wanted Saturday but, I tried and got more steps this week than I have in any one week since I started using my Fitbit. My step counts are: Tuesday- 12,440; Wednesday- 11,315; Thursday- 11,001; Friday- 12,624; Saturday- 8,571; Sunday- 11,443; Monday- 12,704. For a seven day total of 80,098. This challenge was really fun and it was definitely a challenge for me, but I got up every day and made myself go for a walk; even if it meant taking my 4 year old with me and having to carry her on my shoulders while I walked. :) I found that for me this was just the motivation I needed to get myself moving. My advice to get in extra steps is that you can walk anywhere, even laps around your yard if you can’t go too far from home; that and Zumba steps count too. :)

    My tip is to not be embarrassed about walking. I took a lap around the school parking lot before PTA one night. When it was too muddy for the park, my friend and I walked around a strip mall parking lot during our lunch.

    I finished the week with 90,508….This challenge definitely motivated me to move more than I usually do!!

    My tip: After I get laundry out of the dryer I put the basket of clothes at one end of the living room. Put an empty basket at the other end or even in another room…. As I fold each piece I have to walk the length of the living room to put it in the empty basket. It adds up to a lot of steps for one load of laundry. :)

    Congrats,Roni! Very impressive,especially while being sick.

    Well, I tried but didn’t make it! 84,733 I may try again next week because I know I can do it.

    My tip: Go fly a kite-literally! I spent 45 minutes flying kites with my sons and racked up almost 4,000 steps. We had a blast and I never broke a sweat. We laughed and cheered and I never noticed I was so active. It was excellent family time and easy steps.

    Congrats!! I didn’t quite make it, but I took Sunday off. I got a total of 78,556 steps and that’s not too shabby in my opinion! Congrats to everyone who got the 100,000 and more!

    Oh and my tip for getting more steps in each day is to drink more water which equals more trips to the bathroom! Also, if you work in an office like me, any time you need to talk to someone, get up and walk to their desk instead of calling them on the phone!

    Guess what else I didn’t do? Fall over a buffet on Mothers Day! I typically only get 2-3k steps in a day so this week was a win for me :-)

    My tip is to get out of your own head before you even start. I knew I wouldn’t go from 2,000 to 14,000 steps a day. But I knew id stay at 2,000 if I didn’t enter the contest and try. I threw out quitting and failure from the door and just decided entering and trying was enough for me. And I tripled my normal step count in the process.

    I think you nailed the best tips in your earlier post. One thing I did which was kind of silly was to empty the dishwasher dish by dish instead of stacking dishes together to move them to their cabinets. I even tried with the individual silverware but there are only so many hours in a day, lol! Thanks so much for the challenge – this was definitely my highest weekly count yet. Not sure I can keep up this pace, but breaking 10k per day doesn’t seem so hard now!

    I did it! I had to pace around the house before going to bed on the last day, but I just barely made it — 100,145.     57,756 I tried my best to keep my phone on me all the time. I did hit 17386 and 11294 on 2 days…those days I had some long runs in. With three little ones at home, I thought I would be able to get closer to the goal. Through this challenge I have seen that I need to put active play in my plans with my kids. We do a lot of sit down activities and now I have to put into action a bit more active play. Another tip is to remember to charge your device at night especially if it is a phone. I forgot twice to charge it…so I had a couple of days at 2597 and 2169. Bah!

    Well I tried, I really did, but I didn’t make it (84,961). But looking back at the week before the challenge I only had 1 day that I did over 10,000 steps. So I really stepped it up this week! so I’ll take that as a win! I’m a stay at home mom so I tried to find creative ways to increase my walking while doing my mom duties. Instead of taking the baby to the changing table I would go get a diaper and bring it to the baby, which adds up since the changing table is downstairs. I applied the same idea to the laundry. I carried all the dry laundry upstairs to be folded then back down to be put away, as a mom of 3 I do a lot of laundry! This was fun – I love a good challenge, helps keep me focused!
