The #100kSteps Challenge!

69 Comments 10466 views

I had so much fun hosting The One Week Eat IN Challenge with the American Heart Association that I’ve been wracking my brain for something else we could do together.

Then it hit me… steps!

You may have noticed I stopped talking about my Fitbit. I think it was early March when I stopped using it. I decided at that time it was doing more harm than good. The weather was miserable, my injured hamstring ended my #2014RunningStreak and I was simply unmotivated to hit the 10,000 step daily goal. Frankly, I was having a hard time even reaching half that and it was starting to get depressing.

Sometimes when something isn’t working you just have to change your focus. So I decided it was time to take a Fitbit break and I did, with NO guilt.

Well, the break has served its purpose because now I’m raring to go! I put my Fitbit on yesterday for the first time in months and BAM!

Screen Shot 2014-05-05 at 10.35.36 AM

I killed it! And it felt great!

The week before I left for vacation I decided I would issue a 100,000-step challenge the Monday I got back.  Then I did the math and realized we would have to average over 14,000 steps a day to reach 100,000 in a week.

Yikes!

I almost decided against it.

BUT… then I realized…

Challenges are supposed to be CHALLENGING! Right?

I think we can do this!!

Coincidentally when I was contemplating the challenge, Treadmill.com reached out asking if I was interested in partnering. I was like… PERFECT TIMING! I’m planning a step challenge and you guys would make the perfect sponsor!!

They agreed!

Funny enough they were reaching out to me to promote their challenge — which is pretty cool! Click here to check it out — I guess great minds think alike. :)

Roni’s #100kSteps Challenge Details

Goal: Reach 100,000 steps in 7 days.

Note: You can track steps via any type of device, even a good old fashion pedometer. NO CHEATING. What’s the point? I mean, really.

My day started today so my goal ends on Sunday the 11th. I realize not everyone will see this in time to start today so I’m building in two buffer days. You can run the challenge from this Tuesday through Monday or this Wednesday through Tuesday. Regardless, you only get only get 7 days to reach the goal.

Prizes: Gift gertificates… $100 Lululemon, $50 Athleta, $50 Nike and $50 Under Armour all thanks to Treadmill.com!

How to Enter: Simply leave a comment on this post letting me know you are accepting my insane challenge. I will be posting all week on my progress and you can share yours, too.

How to Win: Leave a comment on next Monday’s wrap-up post with your total step count (EVEN IF IT’S UNDER 100,000!) for the week by Tuesday at midnight. Be sure to include your best tip for upping your step count, aka how the heck you did it! Anyone over 100,000 will automatically be entered into the random drawing for the $50 Nike and $50 Under Armour gift certificates. The top 3 tips (even if you are under the 100,000 step goal) will be entered into a community vote for the $50 Athleta gift certificate. Note: The top 3 tips will be decided by myself and Treadmill.com. The tip that gets the most votes will win.

Finally, the $100 Lululemon gift certificate will be awarded to the person who most accurately guesses MY total step count at the end of the challenge. Click here and leave your guess by Wednesday — don’t worry no sign ups or anything just a comment on google plus. I wanted to keep them hidden from me so I can’t see the guesses until the end. It’s going to be so fun to see the entries post fact!

How to Stay Motivated: Use the #100kSteps hashtag on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram (I will be) and know that we are in this together. This one is going to be tough, that’s for sure, but I really think we can do it!

In addition to all this awesomeness Treadmill.com is offering a special discount to my readers. If you call or live chat with one of their operators and mention me, you get $50 voucher toward a treadmill purchase of  $499 or more. This can’t be combined with any other discounts, but you will be able to participate in their Weight Loss Challenge with payouts up to $100, $250 and $1,000!

I’m really excited about this — can you tell?

We better get moving!

We’ve got a lot of walking to do! So far today I’m at 13,021! You can keep tabs on me at FitBit.com and I’ll be posting updates here all week!

Full disclosure: This challenge is sponsored by Treadmill.com. All opinions expressed are my own. If you are interested in purchasing a treadmill or any of their other products, be sure to tell them Roni sent you for $50 discount on items over $499!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

This is a great challenge and I wish I could do it. I have a Jawbone UP and was doing great (had a few weeks of 13-14,000 steps a day) until I pulled my hamstring running. I am just starting light activity again.

I’m in! Last week I set the goal to hit 70K steps (i.e. Average 10k/day) and I did it, in fact I got 75,672! My most steps in a long time. So this is perfect timing. I think I’ll start counting today even though I’m only just going to get 10k (9459 @ 8:41 PM). Woo hoo! This is going to be hard but awesome!

Ok I have been using my pedometer for about 7 weeks and each week gets better (over 15,000 steps yesterday.) BUT I need a challenge to get my eating under control.

I’m in, Roni! I’ve been using Fitbit for more than a year now, and it’s
been part of my weight-loss journey (it and MyFitnessPal). My goal is
10k/day, but I can see I’ll need to boost that to be part of your
    challenge!

I’m in! My company is having a fitness challenge which my husband and my team won last year, but it took over our lives so we are not participating this time. But this challenge of 100,000 steps in a week will be perfect (by the end of the work challenge last year, I was doing 25,000 steps a day and my husband was doing 40,000 — see how that might be too much?? ha ha). Time to dig out that pedometer!

I’m in! I have a Fitbit Force, since I seem to be getting 10,000 steps per day effortlessly, on Friday of last week I have been challenging myself to get in 15,000 steps per day. It takes effort, but so far so good, I will start counting for the 100,000 steps on tomorrow, Wednesday, May 7, 2014.

I work retail and I walk 100,000 on average every week with out doing anything two days a week what is the advantage of my walking and what would be the benefit of doing more
