Tuesday Training Update

24 Comments 2166 views

Since I’m kicking it in high gear for my competition coming up I thought I’d start to share more of my training. Plus, I’m really making progress and I want to share that with you because it’s crazy!

Sometimes I can’t even believe the transformation I’ve made and I’m not only talking traditional weight loss before and after…

BeforeAfter
That’s me in my 20s, late ’90s – And me 2013

I’m talking overall fitness!

It’s something I was never really interested in when I started this journey. Back then I was all about skinny by almost any means possible.

Now I seek balance and strength and progress. I love accomplishing something I was incapable of before and today I did just that.

See that “Rx” up there. That means I did the workout “As Prescribed.” It’s a CrossFit thing, please excuse me while I talk a little shop.

Today’s workout was a modified “Cindy.”

Complete as many rounds as possible in 25 minutes

1 Squat Clean to Thruster (115/75)

5 Pull ups

10 Push Ups

15 Air Squats

2 Squat Clean to Thruster (115/75)

5 Pull ups

10 Push Ups

15 Air Squats

3 Squat Clean to Thruster (115/75)

5 Pull ups

10 Push Ups

15 Air Squats

4 Squat Clean to Thruster (115/75)

5 Pull ups

10 Push Ups

15 Air Squats

And so on until 25 minutes are up.

I completed 7 rounds plus a few cleans into the 8th “as prescribed” — meaning I used the full female weight of 75 lbs AND completed all the pull-ups without bands.

Let me repeat: NO BANDS!

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t effortlessly float through 5 pull-ups at the time. They were UGGG-LY!

But. I. Did. Them!!

Something I couldn’t do just a few months ago and something I thought impossible when I started.

It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you consistently work towards your goals.

I thought I’d share this week’s Olympic Lifting (“Oly”) training schedule from my gym.

20140311_170355

Translation:

SN = Snatch
HB = High Box
AHAP = As Heavy as Possible
DL = Dead Lifts
CL = Clean
BS = Back Squat
PP = Push Press
BP = Bench Press

This is the first week I’m incorporating some of these into my daily routine. I don’t have time to stay after my CrossFit class to complete all the workouts so I’ll be focusing on my weakest lifts and things I feel I’m lacking in.

Today it was the High Box Snatch and GHD Sit Ups. Tomorrow Snatch Deadlift and Bent Rows.

You know you’d been bit by the “Oly” bug when you can’t wait to see how a few weeks of training effect your 1 RM’s (1 Rep Max’s)

The fact that I’m excited by all this AND dropping CrossFit slang so easily is blowing my mind right now. I promise, it won’t take over my blog. I’ll only reserve it for Tuesday Training Updates. :)

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. I used to really enjoy your blog. I’m very sad to say that all this “boring” crossfit talk is seriously making me think of unsubscribing… Sad yes… :(

      Sorry you feel this way, I’m sharing my life and CrossFit is now part of it. Did you mind when I posted all my runs? or my menus? Or about my kids? Or my thoughts on weight loss? All of those things are me and so is this. If you don’t like it don’t read it. That’s your choice. I’m tired of feeling like I need to hide this part of me in fear that folks like you find it boring. Others may be interested in how I’m training/managing my weight considering that is what my blog has always been about.

      All that being said, I rarely mention it and this is the first time I have ever shared details. So I’m not even sure what you are talking about.

      i can’t disagree with this any more than i do. i have enjoyed watching your journey over the years, especially the constant changes you’ve employed around your nutrition and fitness routines. many people have an aversion to change – it’s common nature. i happen to love change! i enjoy your blog with or without crossfit mentions. however, as a fellow crossfitter, i appreciate the periodic details. seriously, please KEEP changing – i think it’s what keeps me coming back. :)

      Jen, Variety is the spice of life, isn’t it?! I personally think it’s great that Roni has taken something that she literally thought was nearly scary before and is damn near dominating it now! Huge accomplishments happening. And nothing could be less “boring” to read about then a woman who busts her ass for millions of women across the globe accomplishing her goals.

      I suppose the great news for you, Anna, is that its SO EASY to google something that you don’t find boring. I wish you the BEST of luck in your future healthy endeavors. The rest of us are going to stay here and support Roni no matter how we feel about her workout choices – just like she has done for all of us through out the years. Cheers!

      Anna, so sorry you feel that way. I hope you can try out xfit and then you’ll smile when you think of calling this boring. I hope you stick with the blog because overall it is an amazing testimony to health and wellness.

    Amazing! And what is the most wonderful is how you did it and keep on doing it. You are an inspiration.
    I never thought I’d love exercise but I do and not just because it keeps me thin. Like you, it’s because it makes me feel great. Never thought I’d run again but now doing 1 min runs on the treadmill with walks in between.
    Being fit is the biggest high!

    I love the Cross Fit posts! I am super impressed. As a fellow Cross Fit member, I know how awesome doing an RX workout feels. Great job and keep up the excellent work. You are an inspiration! AWESOME job on the pull ups. That’s my goal…one unassisted pull up!

    Congrats Roni! Would you ever consider adding in a section into the weekly post where you describe what some of the exercise are? I know what a squat is but have no clue what a “Squat Clean to Thruster” is. Maybe a beginners guide to cross fit with info like why do they call it a box? Your translation was super helpful but as someone who knows nothing about cross fit, I still have so many questions!

    Keep on kicking butt and taking names :)

    Wow, 5 pull-ups, for seven rounds…no bands? Truly impressive! I know how much work it takes to work up to being able to do a couple of pull-ups unassisted, and I remember your post not too long ago about doing your first unassisted pull-up…so you are making huge leaps! Way to go!

    I love this! I too am working towards doing a pull up, and let me tell you, it feels damn near impossible at the moment. As usual, you inspire :) I’m also training for tough mudder – I’ve been going back and poring over your write ups on those!
