Little Bean and I started the day with a bowl of The Most Amazing Bowl of Oatmeal EVER!

It was his request and my pleasure to make it for him. There’s nothing I like more than cooking good stuff for my kids.

Afterwards we did a puzzle,

played Candy Land,

and then Sorry.

All before 8:30 a.m.

Around  9 I decided to make a few things to prep for the week including roasting a spaghetti squash and making some dried black beans I had in the pantry.

I put the beans in the crockpot before the kids and I headed upstairs to gather the laundry.

We got distracted by the pull-up bar.

After everyone had a few turns I put them to work.

We got the first load in and started to clean up the basement. Well, I did. Someone else hid out in his fort.

Big brother soon caught on and peeked in to find this.

Once we I finished the basement, we came upstairs for a cat brushing lesson.

Little Bean did awesome! And Irish was so patient with them.

I’m really starting to love this time with him. We sit, fold and chat. It’s wonderful.

After a few hours I had beans!

I froze some and put the rest back into the slow cooker and experimented with a black bean soup/chili idea.

It apparently never gets old.

Once we wrapped up the game it was nap time. The Husband and I took showers and we piled everyone in the car for an afternoon of shopping.

Honestly, we just needed to get out of the house.

We came home and ate dinner.

Usually I’m not one for separate meals but my black bean chili recipe came out REALLY spicy. My plan was to serve it alongside some steak, baked potatoes and peas, almost like an appetizer (this is my new technique for getting the family to try new things) but the beans were really too hot for the kids. I had a bowl for dinner and I swear my eyes were tearing by the end of it.

I loved every bite though!

After dinner, the second load was ready to fold.

Then it was baths and bed.

I loved my cruise adventure but boy is it good to be home. I have so much swimming in my head and posts I want/need to write. I can’t wait to get a few hours to concentrate. Unfortunately, the kids are off school tomorrow and they are calling for MORE snow on Monday night.

Craziness!

Guess I’ll be doing what I can when I can. ;)

    What a nice weekend :)
    My chili always comes out too hot too – I just dump spices in and am always surprised, but I don’t think I’ll ever learn.
    I’m looking forward to reading about the cruise.
    Oh, and the best homemade pizza I’ve ever made (several times) is Brussels Sprouts Bacon Parmesan Pizza from http://whiteonricecouple.com/recipes/brussels-sprouts-bacon-pizza/

    So glad you had a great time and didn’t get any GI viruses! I have started making a cauliflower crust pizza….an entire head of cauliflower with egg, goat cheese and spices. My kids ask me to make it, it’s so tasty! You really can’t tell its a cauliflower crust. You bake it for 30-40 min and then pull it out and put sauce, cheese and veggies and put it back in for 10 min til the cheese melts. Alittle bit of a pain to make the first few times but definitely worth it in the end.
