One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Ask Roni: Starting, Figuring Serving Sizes, My Approach, Managing Friends, Did I Think I’d Never Lose?

11 Comments 2077 views

Posted a new video podcast! Please excuse my straight-from-the gym look. I wanted to record it as early as possible so I had NO excuses.

Topics include:

  • I’ve lost and then regained. Any advice on how to start?
  • How do you determine your serving sizes for chili or soups?
  • Your mindset/tricks/guidelines/framework for how you have lost weight?
  • How do I tell a friend her way isn’t THE way?
  • Did you ever feel like you might not actually ever lose all the weight you wanted to while you were on your weight-loss journey?

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I listened to the whole thing! It was a great listen with a lot of great information. We share a lot of similar views and you expressed your thoughts in an informed and interesting way that made listening easy. Great job!

That was really interesting and I enjoyed it. Also, you mentioned a vegetable chili that sounded good and said you might post the recipe so I would really be interested in seeing it.

Oh! Thanks for reminding me! Here it is…

I love your podcasts. My family and I moved to India last year, and eating healthy has been a real struggle since then. It’s surprisingly hard to get vegetables in a country that is mostly vegetarian. Your podcast has re-inspired me to work creatively to get more vegetables in our diet. Looks like I’ll be trying bitter gourd now.

In regard to your approach about not using the scale, I follow this largely. However, I relaxed a bit too much with my eating and didn’t bother weighing myself until my one pair of unforgiving, no-stretch jeans gave me a rude reminder. By that time I was up nine pounds which I’m now trying to get rid of again. My mind was very good at playing games with me about not gaining. I think I will now weigh myself once a month to avoid this happening again. Have you noticed that your clothes remain fitting the same as usual?

Pretty much. I work out so much now that I’m actually getting slightly bigger do to muscle development. But all my clothes fit and look great!

Thank you for posting this – your enthusiasm and honesty is wonderful and feels like an extra push for me to continue in my weight loss and re-framing my life.
I love Costco too – even just going there is fun time for my husband and I. Their produce is sooooo good. I don’t feel bad spending so much there when I walk out with so much fresh food that’s good quality.

Love the video! It was nice to hear your voice. I read your blog all the time but this was good. Funny thing was that your voice on the video was different than your voice in my head. :) But love the advice…confidence, nobody is perfect and ever will be…good weight loss and parenting advice that I’ve learned as well.

Yay – I download the podcasts and I love when a new one comes out!

Thank you so much for the video! I found your site a few weeks ago and have already watched quite a few of your older videos but it was great to see how your mindset has developed. Over the last few months I have slowly lost 15lbs and, while it would be nice to lose a bit more, I went into it this time with a very similar philosophy to your current one. Focusing on health and fitness really helped to prevent me from obsessing over what I was eating (or not eating). Tracking calories on MFP and writing down my workouts have also been great for me. I feel so much better now that, honestly, losing the weight is just a happy side effect :) Thanks for your wonderful blog. I love your honest and down to earth perspective.
