Weekend Quote: No, I Will Tell Myself YES!

7 Comments 1824 views

“All your life you are told the things you cannot do. All your life they will say you’re not good enough or strong enough or talented enough; they will say you’re the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or be this or achieve this. THEY WILL TELL YOU NO, a thousand times no, until all the no’s become meaningless. All your life they will tell you no, quite firmly and very quickly. AND YOU WILL TELL THEM YES.”

I know this quote is just an old ad from Nike but when I came across it today something struck me: Who are “they?”

“All your life you tell yourself the things you think you cannot do. All your life you say you’re not good enough or strong enough or talented enough; you think you’re the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or be this or achieve this. YOU WILL TELL YOURSELF NO, a thousand times no, until all the no’s become meaningless. All your life you tell yourself no, quite firmly and very quickly. AND I WILL TELL MYSELF YES.

Maybe I’m the only one, but I’m tired of being my own worst enemy.

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

My high school principal laughed when I told her I was going to college. I now have a BA and MA. So you need to listen to your heart and you better be ready to work hard for that dream.
You show us every week the results of hard work–you’re a great example of keep on trying.

I had a moment a couple of weeks ago that this post reminded me of a lot! I went for a jog before work along my usual lunch time walking track. I’m not a very fast runner and have had a personal trainer laugh at me for running “in slow motion”. I always give myself a hard time when I jog because I think how ridiculous I must look – heavy, puffing, red etc. So when I was jogging the other morning the sun was behind me which is unusual, as I usually walk that track around midday. My shadow was in front of me this time and I couldn’t stop looking at it. It looked fit. It looked strong. It looked healthy and capable. I had a massive AHA! moment and realised how horrible I had been to myself for the last 2 years every single time I went for a run thinking such negative thoughts! Now when I run I tell myself YES! :)
