It’s Time to Ask…

26 Comments 1970 views

We are exactly 4 weeks into the new year and it’s time to ask: How’s the New Year treating you? Did you make a resolution? Have you kept it?

Me?

Well, my #2014RunStreak is going strong. I’m attempting to run at least a mile every day this year. The cold temps and snow have REALLY been challenging me but so far so good!

Screen shot 2014-01-29 at 10.13.13 PM

I’m hoping to up my mileage at least a couple of days a week but it’s been so bitterly cold I can barely stand the 10 minutes I’m out there.

My other goal was to hit 10,000 steps a day, which I THOUGHT would be easy if I was running more but I was wrong! The weather has me hibernating, I’m working more — translation: on my computer ALL day — and it’s taking all my effort to get there. I think I’ve missed the 4 days so far but I’m still trying!

OK, your turn! I need updates!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I didn’t do resolutions, but I did do goals for 2014, which I then broke down into monthly goals. I am actually pretty happy with how it has gone so far. I did really well on my step goal (not as ambitious as yours) and I’m way ahead on it. On most of the others I have met them or am within 10% of them. There are a few that I haven’t gotten to as consistently, maybe half the time. I think I probably picked too many to work on in January and I would have been better off focusing on just a few and then adding on during the future months. For February, I plan to up my daily step goal way above what it was in January and then to continue working on a few of the other goals, moving them up a reasonable amount from January (daily calorie deficit to work for, for example).

Me too! I have the Force (tee-hee-hee) and I’ve been shocked at how I have to make a huge effort (let’s be honest- me marching like a madwoman often at 11pm) to get 10,000 steps. That’s even with me doing a workout. I find if I don’t get a walk in it almost doesn’t happen. and this weather? And babies and toddlers? I’ve really let my step goal fall this week.

After weeks and months of debating I ended up buying my force before the end of the year. I almost took it back twice…because don’t I know if I slept good? Or why do I care if I went up the stairs 10 times? But I finally got a few friends and started moving more. As a mom of 4, with some in each elementary, middle and high schools, I thought it was a given that I was walking at least 10,000 steps a day. NOPE. If I didn’t exercise it was more like 4,600…so it was an eye opener.

My whole life style is based on compromise and moderation. If I go out to lunch I move more to make up for the food/drink. Since I got serious about the steps each day the scale has been going down…I’m less than 4 lbs off my personal goal, and I haven’t missed the 10,000. I question the accuracy of it every now and again, but honestly as long as it motivates me to move more that is all I care about. I’d love to have more friends so feel free to add imacrazymomof4! You could say I’m pretty happy with how the year has started.

I had a FitBit, but sadly lost it in an “accident” when it unclipped from my workout shorts pocket onto my husbands truck door. I then preceeded to close it in the door three different times while on the hunt for it. Ha ha. But, I did make a goal to run 750 miles in 2014 and to tackle two half marathons. I realized I’d need to make a full year plan to ensure I meet my goals (duh!), and I’m glad to say I’m right on track for meeting my goal, and based on the training I’ll do for the half marathons, I will likely exceed my goal. I’ve continued to mange my eating well, and because of my running plan, I’ve continued my weight loss, even through the polar vortex nightmare of a winter.

My #2014RunStreak is going great too, although it’s much easier because I have a treadmill. (I’m not going out in these temps!) The treadmill also helps me keep my step goal everyday, whenever I’m short I just hop on for a walk with a good book. What really keeps me motivated are challenges on Diet Bet, Everymove, and Lose It. (I love badges!)

      And I can’t do the treadmill! ;)

FITBIT 10K a DAY STREAK continues. I can’t believe it works so well, but that little gadget just gets me going. I can’t even think about not meeting my goal. I go out in the dark, cold, snow; run through the house making my kids crazy, all to get in my steps. My FORCE is having issues – and I pray it doesn’t break! 11 months to go!!

Oh noooo what sort of issues? How long have you had it? I’m still waiting to see if I get the contact dermatitis everyone is saying they are getting…

My main goal was to track my eating in MyFitnessPal, which I’ve been very consistent at. My next goal was to walk my dog 3 times a week and go to the gym 3 times a week (actually, my goal was the generic “be more active,” but all the goal experts say that generic goals are hard to keep) … I’ve been failing at my specific goal, but I’ve been doing great at being more active.

I’m tempted to try a 5K per day in February, but that might be a little more than I’m ready for right now.

Goals are doing great. I’ve done something active with the kids most every day and we’ve played catch up to cover the days we’ve missed. I’m slowly ramping up my steps per day, and my eating is getting much better. I’m very happy with myself!

I love my fitbit one!! Is that summary from the fitbit site? Being a teacher I get pretty close to my steps, with my run streak and all, especially if my high school choir decides to have a dance party in my room at lunch!!

Actually that’s from Nike+ but I love my fitbit charts too.

My goal was to eat the same volume of vegetables at every meal as I do anything else combined. It’s going great, and it’s working!!!

Great effort on the running! I really miss running outdoors but it’s so difficult at this time of the year. We’ve actually had a pretty mild winter in London but it’s dark when I leave for work in the morning and dark when I get home. SIGH. I’ve been able to run each Sunday but I’m looking forward to lighter evenings. That said, the gym has been going really well! I’ve been going 4-5 times a week and I’m really loving it. I haven’t really changed my exercise schedule since last year but at least I haven’t slacked off in the cold weather :)

I didn’t do resolutions this year. I always break them anyway. I have, however, started a Couch to 10K walk/run program and am doing cross fit two days a week at work. I’m so bummed that I have to miss it on Monday for a meeting. :( I did find some at-home stuff to do instead on the days I can’t make it. I desperately need to clean up the eats department though. Sigh. One step at a time.

I also have a race planned for every month starting with March. I’m thinking I may be able to do a half marathon in October. If not a half, certainly a 10K but they’re giving away finisher’s medals this year for the first time EVER. Nice incentive, eh?

I love a race per month. I did that for 2 years and it was awesome!

So far so good. I’m doing the year in mini goals and I was shooting for 5 pounds in January which I almost hit (167 to 162.2) and it’s close enough for me to declare victory. Now that I have a Fitbit I’m trying for 5 pounds in Feb, and 10,000 steps + 10 stairs minimum at least 5 days a week.

This is the year that I want to get healthy & happy. I started by going to a natural medicine doctor. It looks like I might have hashimoto’s thyroiditis along with other autoimmune issues. I’ve been placed on a gluten free diet. I am doing it 100% and I feel so much better. My road to full recovery is long but I am determined to get there before 2014 is out.

My New Year’s resolution is the usual, to stay positive, improve myself inside and out, be successful and keep my faith in Jesus. All things in life are possible and take action now instead of acting tomorrow. Happy New Years everyone!

I didn’t set a resolution, but in mid-January, my fiancé mentioned that he wanted to get his weight under control, and I was happy to hop on board. I’ve lost weight in the past, but I’m enjoying it more this time because we’re doing it together. Smaller portions, more family walks, simple swaps — it’s nice! The competitive side of me always wants to walk farther than he does, so I make sure to keep my pedometer on at all times. I thought that getting to 10,000 steps would be hard (especially since it’s a pitiful 30 degrees outside) but I’ve found ways to not loathe my treadmill! My hope is that once we get to summer, we’ll be able to enjoy our new pool together without any inhibitions. :o)

I would say 2014 has been a hit so far for me. From changing my eating habits back to where they should always be, to training about 4 days per week, in preparation for my obstacle course races this year. The only area of work I need to focus on more is mileage, as it’s tough to get those miles in when it’s freezing out!
