One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Be Just 1% Better

10 Comments 2207 views

We have two weeks until Thanksgiving then just another three before Christmas. Soon it will be the new year and everyone will make empty promises to themselves yet again.

We’ve all done it.

We “throw away” the next few weeks because, well, why not? We’re constantly surrounded by food, our schedules are hectic, family is around, and LOOK! A bright, shiny new start is on the horizon. New Year’s Day will save us. That’s when we’ll start that new diet. That’s when clean eating is possible. That’s when we’ll give paleo a try or join the gym or start running.

No, no, no, NO!

Don’t try to be 100% perfect on New Year’s Day, be 1% better today.

This is the #wycwyc philosophy in a nutshell. This is what dropping the “all or nothing” mindset is all about.

There is no perfect. Not tomorrow, not next week, not after Thanksgiving, not on New Year’s Day. I hate to burst your bubble but …

I won’t either and I somehow still managed to lose and maintain a significant weight loss.

It is possible. You just have to do what you can when you can without guilt or pressure.

#wycwyc starts the positive moment. What will you do this weekend to make yourself 1% better?

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

1% better is an interesting concept. My 1% better today will be to not buy my one dessert of the week (a modest cupcake). I have learned over the last couple of weeks that the one splurge has become too much sugar for my body. I find myself sore and extra tired the next day which makes Sunday even more difficult to motivate myself. Instead I’m going to research something that’s sweet and not so bad for me. Thank you. I like this. :)

About to go for a run. And not kick myself or bring myself down if I have to stop and walk a few times.

I’m obsessed with your #wycwyc movement Roni! It’s such a simple concept – yet most of us never put it into play! Thanks for bringing it to light and inspiring us all!
    I ran 3 miles today because I could….and it felt great! :)

Last Christmas morning I weighed myself, saw a shocking (but not unexpected) number and decided not to wait another minute to get my healthy on. It would have been very easy to cruise through the next several days, as if January 1st was more magical than December 26th. I set goals and, when I met them ahead of schedule, I changed them. I made a plan and, when I wasn’t getting the results I wanted, changed the plan.

It’s been nearly a year of experimenting now. I’ll never be fine and I’ll never be perfect, but after chasing a normal weight for 50 years, it feels good to feel good. You’re an inspiration. Your matter-of-fact philosophy has been very helpful. As I learn to maintain a healthy weight, you can bet I’ll be following your good example.

Posts like this are why I love your blog :) Catching up on reading after a month long business trip, but today I squeezed in a 2-mile run during my lunch break thanks to your reminder of #wycwyc and it felt great! :D
