A September 1 Sensational Sunday

I can’t believe it’s September 1.  What happened to August? Is it just me or did the month fly by?

Anyway, today was jam packed. So much so I can hardly muster the energy to post this so I’m going to let my photos do most of the talking.

This is what I came home to after leaving for a morning run before anyone was up.

Notice how clean it is. I did all that yesterday.

Breakfast conversation is not possible when the TV is on.

Note: Breakfast was Banana Almond Oat Pancakes

Trains are currently all the rage.

20130901_C

We remembered our bags!!

20130901_D

Baking time!

20130901_E

This is a longer story I’ll tell on GreenLiteBites but in a nutshell, the 8-year-old and I made whoopie pies.

20130901_F

We had a blast and they came out great!

20130901_G

Laundry time.

20130901_H

I put some ribs in the oven to slow cook for dinner.

20130901_I

The Husband and I paid bills while the kids played.

20130901_J

They tuckered themselves out.

20130901_K

Yard work time!

20130901_L

Allowance time.

20130901_M

We make the 8-year-old send us a bill based on the chores he did. Our new system has been working out great and I’m shocked how good he’s getting at adding up money.

Dinner!

20130901_N

Is there anything cuter than a toddler with a cob of corn?

20130901_O

Our first evening Boy Scout outing. Little Brother tagged along.

20130901_P

He had a BLAST!

20130901_Q

Little Brother enjoyed himself, too.

20130901_R

Bedtime stories.

Overall, a fabulous day!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

Tell him he’s getting commission, not allowance. The more he works, the more commission he gets. Ha!

That’s how we do it but we still call it allowance. Commission is a much better word!

I could tell that’s what you’re doing. I got that term from Dave Ramsey. Ever heard of him? He has a website (daveramsey.com), and there is a tab for kids. He sells some stuff that helps teach them about finances, saving, spending, etc. You may not need it, but that’s where I got the term commission over allowance. Lol

Do you have a particular system you use for allowance? I would love to hear more about it :) We really need to set up a system for our 7 year old.

TV is an attention sucker, isn’t it! After a summer with way too much TV we are on a no TV challenge for the month of September! Two days in and so far so good!

We just started assigning small money amounts to the little chores. Then we keep track throughout the week on what he does and he’s responsible for “billing us” on Sundays which makes him add it all up. You can kind of see the amounts in the picture. If he does every possible thing he can earn up to $10.

We had Banana Almond Oat Pancakes this morning. I love that recipe. And, it’s not just you, August was a blur and I didn’t do close to all the stuff you did, LOL! But we have a lot of August birthdays in my family. Will you be posting a Whoopie Pie recipe?

What a fun day! Wish I got more done this weekend. Was caring for my sick doggie. No regrets he’s getting better but he’s 16 years old so we are cautiously optimistic.

I have been following you for many years, Roni and I have learned a great deal from your journey. You are an amazing mentor not only for those losing weight but for parents as well.

WOw this was a great read. Is your Whoopie pie recipe online? I like the “sending the bill” idea… although we told our kids what the price would be that we would pay for their services.
