I’m in Love with My Fitbit!

I really didn’t think it would happen — I didn’t! But I’m hooked!

OK, let me back up in case you have no idea what I’m talking about. The other day I posted from BlogHer letting everyone know I was the lucky recipient of a Fitbit. It was a gift from Best Buy for signing up for the BlogHer 5k.

I was excited because I know so many other bloggers use it (Gail comes to mind immediately) but I wasn’t about to shell out the cash to just try something I figured I didn’t really need. I mean I take CrossFit almost daily and I’ve been running consistently again for a few months now. I don’t need a little device to tell me to move more.

Little did I know it did so much more that just track steps.

I am now the lucky owner of The FitBit One. It looks like this …

And I’m wearing it on my pants just like that at the moment. I also wore it on my bra like this when wearing a dress at the conference.

Anyway, both locations worked  great for me. I don’t even notice it. You can also put it in your pocket if you aren’t a clip kind of person.

While you are wearing it, it tracks all sorts of fun stuff!

  • Steps
  • Calories Burned
  • Distance Covered
  • Floors Climbed
  • Very Active Minutes

As if that’s wasn’t enough you can put it on your wrist at night like this…

And it tracks your sleep!!

This is by far my favorite feature as sleep has been a big issue for me lately. Mostly because I stay up too late and wake up too early.

Here’s my collected sleep data over the past 3 days since getting the Fitbit.

In addition to your activity and sleep patterns it also has a food database and an area to track your food. I thought this was an awesome addition until I tried using it. After food journaling at the awesome MyFitnessPal.com, I found the Fitbit database cumbersome to use, and only ended up logging a couple of items.

HOWEVER, I have come to learn that you can connect MyFitnessPal to Fitbit! So I’ve been trying it today and wouldn’t you know, my My Fitness Pal journal entries were automatically imported into my Fitbit log!

OK, so here comes to the coolest part in my opinion because I’m so darn tired of cumbersome wires: It’s all WIRELESS!

There is NO NEED to plug the darned thing into your computer ever except to charge it, and the charge lasts 5-7 days! I just checked mine and it’s still more than half charged after using it consistently since Friday.

Oh! And there’s a phone app too! Seriously, this thing could not be any cooler.

I’m already an active person. I usually take the stairs, I go for walks with the kids, I try to move as much as possible.  I don’t need a Fitbit. But even I sit for long stretches at my computer, and seeing all this fun data nudges me to move even more. It’s also not letting me deny how little sleep I really do get. Last night was the first night I went to bed before 11 in months and it was partially because I knew I’d see the total hours slept the next morning.

I don’t care if it’s nerdy, I like the darn thing!

Oh, I should note, I have been having some technical problems on their site regarding friends. I sent them a ticket about an hour ago so I’ll see how their customer service is, too.

    I have a fitbit, too! I really like having it, and being able to track all of my activities and see what days I’m more (or less) active. Gives me motivation to get a little extra workout in! Plus it’s fun to compete with friends!

    I’ve had mine for a while now. I still have a long way to go to get to where I want to be but I love how it keeps me moving more than I would without it. I also got the fitbit aria scale. I love the scale just as much as my fitbit. I weigh myself daily but don’t really look at the numbers just enough to see that I am not getting to far off track. Then I hooked my fitbit account up to a website called Trendweight that crunches the numbers and gives you your average weight. That is the one I focus on because it ignores the water weight and chocolate nights and gives me the average of them all together. It’s fun.

    LOVE mine! I’ve been wearing a Fitbit for over 2 years now. I recently upgraded from the older Ultra model to the One so I could have bluetooth synchronization.

    Roni, that is so funny that you got a fit bit… not really funny haha.. but funny coincidence. I just got a fitbit flex and I am loving it…. I mean really loving it. Just knowing I have it one, makes me get my butt up and move. I got it 3 days ago and I know it is just my new toy, however, already putting in 12000 to 13000 steps a day and going for 15000. I am as happy with mine as you sound like you are with yours.. way to go!!!

    I got the little fitbit for my birthday earlier in the month and love it! I thought I was pretty active with my running but on days that I don’t run, I only hit 3500 steps if I don’t make an effort to do more. Knowing I want to hit 10K makes me step up my efforts and go for short walks throughout the day :) Gonna go friend you!

    I’ve had mine for a while and LOVE IT!! I’m not as active as you, but I do enjoy the extra push it gives me! The WW ActiveLink came out around the time I was deciding on the FitBit; I went with the FB because I can use it away from WW but mostly because there is no monthly fee attached to it (I pay WW enough already). On rare occasions I forget it – and boy, does that ever throw off my day!

    Love the Fitbit! Just make sure you don’t wash it. Loved it so much I have bought two and not thinking, washed both and they were kaput after that. I ended up buying the older Fitbit style because it comes in bright pink and wearing it in my bra so I stand a better chance of seeing before I throw my clothes in the dryer. But, the fact that I am on number 3 shows just how much I love it. It is sooooo easy to use!

    I think that I would really like it for the sleep part – I’m pretty sure that it would show about 5 hours with 4.5 of those restless!!

    I’ve been reading your blog for a while and find your quest for fitness inspiring. I got my fitbit in Feburary and it has changed my world. I have lost 40 pounds just by walking. It was very eye opening to realize just how much time I was spending sitting in a chair. Now I get up and move at every chance — most often just walking around my kitchen counter in circles trying to get my steps in!

    I have the zip, and I LOVE It!! My neighbors and I are friends and compete to see who has the most daily steps, and weekly steps :) It’s fun!!!

    Had the body bugg for years and loved it but hated the bulk. Been thinking about getting the fit bit. I think you might have just convinced me. Any body else had experience transitioning from one to the other?

    I love my Fitbit and am very happy with their customer service. I lost mine at the beginning of June. I emailed customer service to ask if I could possibly get a discount on a replacement (just thought I’d ask). And they sent me a new one free! I couldn’t believe it!

    I find that I am getting more activity in because of the One. I’m an accountant and get geeky about numbers.

    I have the new FitBit Flex – the wrist band version, and I love love LOVE it! The last pedometer I had was forever falling off my waistband, so I really wanted the Flex rather than the clip version. (Plus, I never have to worry about putting it through the wash!) The sleep tracking is very cool, but my hands-down favorite part is that when I reach 10,000 steps for the day, I get what I call a “party on my wrist” – it does a bit of buzzing, and the little display lights do some craziness – it’s totally nerdy, but that makes me happy every single time.

    I love, love, love my fitbit! I am super competitive, and if I am not beating my friends for the week or day, I get my butt out and walk and move more.
    I have even been known to have only 8000 steps at 10:00 pm at night, and I will go out and walk in my neighborhood until the darn thing shows 10,000.
    I know it’s just a dumb gadget, but the thing makes me move way more than I did before I got it.
    I was surprised at how little I actually moved during a workday.

    I keep coming back to this post and re-reading it. I was going to save up the money (actually going to wait until I saved up enough from Gym Pact to pay for it) but the other night my sister slipped me a $100 bill and told me to do something nice for myself. I think I’m finally going to get it. I really wanted to get the wrist one, but this one seems to get better reviews. I use the ActiveLink from WW now and as much as I like it, it doesn’t do enough for me.

    I absolutely love my Fitbit One! The track sleep feature is my favorite too as i have trouble sleeping. It’s fascinating to look and see how many times I was restless or awake during the night. Fitbit One is a great ally in my new fit lifestyle. :)

    ok so …I received a fitbit Charge for mothers day, I had asked for a swing for my patio! I actually had my heart set on it! I had been using my phone to count my steps all day long and was keeping the darn thing in my bra when I was walking around and working out but it was getting all sweaty and to be quite honest it was sticking out and was a lil embarrassing esp when the phone rang and I had to pull it out to answer it. Ok so I set it up and have not taken it off since !IM IN LOVE WITH THIS THING!! I log all my food (never in a million years did I think I would do that) I try to make sure I walk everywhere I even park further away from the store if I need to go in. I stand more at work and go for lil walks around the office. THIS IS THE BEST THING NEXT TO SLICED BREAD!!!
