With all that’s going on in Boston, I’m finding it REALLY hard to concentrate, so I decided to share something that gave me a good chuckle this morning.

A few days ago I shared this video on Facebook.

It’s gone viral and there’s been a lot of discussions about Dove’s intentions, women and beauty, diversity, etc, etc, etc.

I can’t lie, it made me cry. I am, after all, the biggest sap on the planet, and I do think woman are their own critics. But I also see the problems with the video: not much diversity, narrow definition of and yet more focus on woman HAVING to be beautiful, and, let’s be honest, it takes itself very seriously, almost to a fault.

Now there’s a guys’ version spoof that does the opposite. Literally.

HYSTERICAL! And reminds me not to take things so seriously.

I needed a good chuckle today.

Stay safe everyone.

my favorite quote: “women will never be equal to men until we can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer belly, and still think we are beautiful”

Another blogger I read had a cynical take…Dove just wants to make money. They don’t really care about your self-image or how warped it may be. She pointed out that this same company makes sexist commercials for Axe body wash. Unfortunately, I tend to agree…It’s just about the bottom line. However, no matter what the corporation’s motivation, if the first commercial prompts us to re-evaluate how we see ourselves, then maybe it is worth paying attention to. (Not necessarily buy the product, though.) We are always kinder to others than we are to ourselves, huh?

Actually, I was just getting fed up with the first video. Everyone’s sharing it. I am glad you shared the second video, you brightened my day, thank you! :D

Maybe someone needs to just tell women to stop being so judgemental. Whether it is about themselves, or about others.

I loved some of the quotes that these guys said.
