So many things I want to tell you in today’s weigh-in post and just not enough time. Normally Wednesdays are one of my childless days to focus on work, but this winter mess…

Has left me home with both kids. We were supposed to get quite a few inches, but the storm seems to be more snow mixed with rain mixed with ice. No fun on any level. :(

Anyway, this morning’s weigh-in was what I expected and not because of my cookie indiscretions last night (although I’m sure it didn’t help,) but because,  umm, it’s that time when, well, I start to retain water.

So my weigh-in is my weigh-in this week and I know I’ll be out of this funktastic mood in a few days.


In other news, my second DietBet was another smashing success! 431 players lost 2,311 lbs (and the winners more than doubled their money!) And We raised $430 for The Alliance for a Healthier Generation!

A few folks have asked if I’ll do another one but I’ve decided not to.

Have no fear though. If you didn’t notice, DietBet has saturated the blogosphere. I’m sure you can find a game to participate in if it’s giving you that external push you need to stay motivated. Or start your own with a group of friends!

OK, I think I covered everything and The Toddler is STILL sleeping! Can you believe it? The 7-year-old is entertaining himself playing the Wii. I plan on making some breakfast and then putting them to work. We’ve got some cleaning to do!

    Wow, my numbers have been up and down. Last week I was 115.8. A # I have not seen in a long time, and one I hope to not see again. I have really worked harder on eating less processed, and eating better meals. I have problem with grabbing an energy bar (cliff) and using that for too many meals. Roni, you talked about water gain, I tried some water this weekend with a ph9, it made me pee like crazy and I drink only water and a lot of it. I guess our bodies run on the acidic side and the water balances the ph in our bodies. It maybe worth a shot.

    since i’ve read the book ‘eat to live’, i’ve had my eyes opened a little wider. the book really talks about the many many benefits of eating plant based protein but isn’t totally anti meat. he says we should strive to eat 1 lb of raw veggies as well as 1 lb of cooked veggies a day. i’ll admit when i first read that i was like, ‘this guy is a fruitcake, there is no way i can do that’…i’m not exactly sure how close i am to that, but i know i don’t eat enough of them and i have to make a conscious effort to eat more. the funny thing is, is that since i’ve read the book and have made a more conscious effort, i’ve lost almost 5 lbs eating anywhere from 1400-1800+ a day…so i haven’t been hungry. i do feel healthier and i know my kids have definitely been eating more since i’ve been doing better. i’m always amazed when i go to log my meal on mfp, after eating what i think is tons, it ends up being not even 300 calories.

    great job roni for helping to start people out on dietbet. so many people are making healthier choices because of your influence!

    I was at a conference two weeks ago and was so busy last week catching up at work that I didn’t put the time into home cooked meals that I normally do. For some reason burritos are my go to, throw together food. They are not super unhealthy the way that I make them but don’t make for a very satisfying, balanced meal either. I started actually cooking and preparing meals again and the difference shows! Good luck with the impromptu snow day. Im in PG county and enjoyed sleeping in even if I think the day off is a little unnecessary. See you next week!

    Down 1.8 lbs! The last few days I haven’t been using mfp, but trying conscientious choosing to watch my portions and drink water, choosing good snacks, and cutting out crazy overeating night snacking. Only had two nights where I munched on reasonable portions of ice cream and tortilla chips. Also it was my DH’s birthday on the weekend and I did eat cake! Well, I think I am on the right track because I know I can’t take out sweets and chips out of my lifestyle, but I am learning that I don’t need to have a whole bowl or bag to enjoy them. Right now my exercise is taking care of my family…running after 2 young boys. I hope to work towards running again and possibly run on mother’s day (5K). We will see!

    Up a little but expected so much worse. Grandmother passed away last week and I had to fly to KY for the funeral. Staying at my sisters house there wasn’t really the kinds of food I eat and it was harder to keep my water in-take up. We did exercise each day and maybe that is what helped keep the weight down. Yesterday was the first day back to my eating habits and routine and it was fantastic. So I’m not going to stress about it.

    I made my GOAL weight! Total shocker. I totally wasn’t expecting it this week – it’s the second week in a row that I’ve had a good loss. Total loss of 60.7 pounds since October, 2011. So a year and five months – and I’m thrilled. Just going to enjoy this today. Have a good week everyone.

      Thanks to everyone for the awesome comments. Yes, a wonderful shock. And my only tips would be stick with what has worked for you – for me it was tracking, portion sizes, more water and more movement. The last 15 – 20 lbs took longer than the first 40+ lbs to come off. Patience and perseverance – you can do it!

    well, i feel tons better, i was sick last week and super depressed but it passed, it always does. made some great new food this week including butternut squash black bean burrito, came out great. someone earlier in the feed mentioned burritos so i though i would share

    Roni, I just started reading your blog a week ago, & love it (been reading many back posts & weekend quotes)! I resonate with so many of your posts both as a mother of two little ones (6 & 3), & as someone who has struggled with body image & the “vicious dieting cycle from hell.” I have always liked exercise, although not quite enough to do a tough mudder…WOW, amazing! The food journal is my friend…I go back & forth between a paper journal & WW e tools. Anyway, part of my re-commitment was to step on the scale only once per week on Weds (used to do it once/day, sometimes more). Last year, I almost reached 140, & then got into that nasty cycle again.

    Roni, I was thinking the same thing this morning about water weight. I’ve noticed I consistently gain slightly or plateau around the same time every month, then lose again a couple of weeks later. Same thing happening again this month, so hopefully I’ll post a loss again in a week or so.

    Happy with the loss this week! It’s slow going but going in the right direction. However…a small rant about MFP…I have a love/mild dislike relationship with it LOL. I don’t really like how it says “if every day were like today you’d weigh XXX in 5 weeks”. My days are pretty similar to each other…consistent calorie consumption and calorie burn through exercise…and they have yet to be right about what I will weigh in 5 weeks! I kind of wish you could turn that part off and have it just say great job on being at/under your goal for calories and/or exercise. Ok…rant over! I’m definitely happy with the weight loss and will just keep on keepin’ on :)

    Funny you posted the period question. I started mine yesterday and I am not weighing in this week. I have always (even when I was very skinny) packed on water weight when I am on my period and I started yesterday so I just have decided not to weigh in that week. It really doesn’t mean anything generally because my weight goes back to normal in a couple days, so it is just discouraging for no reason. So I will hold off until next week. Good luck everyone.

    I didn’t weigh myself this week…I’m retaining a bunch of water today. I know the number shouldn’t make a difference but I have a rule that if I can’t get my rings off in the morning, I don’t get on the scale. I have consumed far to many mini cadbury eggs this week and need to just not buy them anymore! Today has been a great day eating clean. My left quad/hip flexor/IT band has been bugging me and my kids have had colds so the gym or running haven’t been happening. I’m planning to run after work in the morning and am hoping my leg agrees with running this week!

    I blew it this week. Did ‘t try at all and I was up 1.4 pds.last week. Up 10 pds three weeks ago–if I would have been careful I could of dropped most of those pds. now I will have to work everyone of those pds off the hard way. I got to survive this fourth year–need to prove to myself I can do it. I ate a good breakfast so maybe this will be the day I turn it around.

    Did a food allergy test and finally know why dairy and beans and chocolate and almonds make me feel so blah…and actually avoided them for two weeks! Seems easier than I thought it would be–this and the Whole 30 eating are making me a lighter and calmer person. No more food drama!!!
