The Snoring Husband.

The Snoring Husband has been waking me up 2-3 times a night for weeks now and it’s starting to make me angry. Mostly because it’s tied to another bad habit he has. Ugh. I’m not going to get into it. Just makes me angry.

Anyways …

Hopped on the scale this morning and saw.

20130327_weighin

Up 0.2 — a Total Maintainer week, which makes perfect sense. I’ve been tracking on MFP, staying right around my calorie goals throughout the week, and taking a break from it on the weekends.

This strategy for maintaining has worked for me for some time. I don’t go hog wild and binge my way through the weekend. I just enjoy (WITHOUT GUILT) whatever I want.

This past Saturday I went out with friends and split the most amazing brownie a la mode with The Husband — which is a joke because he takes 2 bites and then I end up finishing the rest.

How he does that I’ll never understand.

Afterwards we went to a comedy club and I had a cream-based cocktail with creme de cacao.  A-mazing!

We had a really good time.

Weekends like this may prevent me from sculpting some perfect Victoria Secret Model body but that’s not my goal. My goal is to simply maintain a healthy body weight while living a balanced life that includes, well, brownie a la mode and fun cocktails!

I used to think if I was ever “lucky enough” to lose the weight I’d look just like all the skinny models in magazines, but it’s not true. Now that I actually HAVE lost the weight let me tell you:  I still have dimply thighs, flabby chicken wing arms and big calves.

I only bring this up because I know there are other women who assume once they hit some miracle number on the scale they’ll be strutting confidently along the shoreline in a bikini with the perfect bod.

I’m not saying it can’t happen, I’m just saying I wish I had a more realistic concept of weight loss and better body image back in my yo-yo dieting days because there’s freedom in making healthy choices with a different goal in mind than just “skinny.”

WOW, I have NO idea where all that came from. I swear my plan was just to pop in real quick for this week’s weigh-in! Speaking of … your turn!

Looking forward to your updates!

Super quick check-in, not weighing in until next week. Good week, trying to figure out the balance of maintenance mode and know that all the good habits I developed when losing are critical to keeping the weight off. Tracking, good choices, water, movement. Hope all have a good week.

  • Jennifer

Roni, I so enjoy your weekly weigh ins. I hit my 30lb goal in December after being on a weight loss journey since August, but I am slowly gaining it back with 5lbs this month. Your story and maintenance is so inspiring and I’m trying to remind myself 5lbs is NOT the end of the world! Do you have any more maintenance tips you can share?

  • Svanhvit

Lovely post. I love it when you get carried away like that.
Me? I am still around. Slowly getting my health back after a bad bout of the flu and a consequent lumbago. That is SO much more painful when you have broken a disc and thus ruined some nerves. To say nothing of the worrying… I must have looked pretty bad because today a bunch of folks has been commenting on how much better I look. So I am focusing on that right now. When I can take a flight of stairs again without wheezing and my leg’s stopped acting up like crazy, I will tackle the rest.

  • Dawn

So helpful to read you every day, Roni, but especially on Wednesdays. You’re a great inspiration!

147.5 after nacho filled ski weekend. I am trying to get to 145 and yet I have to agree with you that eating fun foods can make that goal a bit less important than the idea of enjoying my life. Thanks for helping me think about these matters in a balanced way.

Hope you’re having a good week, Roni, and getting enough sleep! I’m not sure how I want to weigh in today because I’ve been seeing some big fluctuations on the scale. I started to weigh in every other day, to make myself a bit more accountable, but it’s a bit confusing. Yesterday was 2lbs less than today! Anyways, I’ll post today’s weight with the downward trend in mind:

I’m back after a bit of a break. Up a few lbs for various reasons (OK, let’s call them what they are: excuses). I’m back to try to cement the Ah-ha moment I had yesterday. I had backed off on the exercise because I wasn’t feeling well, and had been wondering why my old zip just wasn’t coming back. And then my sleep started getting crappy, so the funk only got worse. Then yesterday it hit me – the only reason why the zip isn’t back is because I’m not exercising. I wonder how long the tail has been wagging the dog?

    • annie

that same thing happens with me if i get away from exercise! i get crazy depressed and don’t sleep well, it happens so quick too. so glad i actually love to do it!

    Great job maintaining Roni!

It’s been a month since I weighed in here on Wednesdays, but it’s just because I forget to do it, I’m still chugging away. My weight fluctuated a bit at the beginning of March but I’m back on track, over the flu, and back to regularly scheduled workouts. I’m down almost 2 lbs in a month, which I know is a slow loss, but I’m trying to lose the weight slowly this time and keep it off for good, no more drastic weight losses, trying to rack up big numbers like the Biggest Loser (like I ever could lose that much in a week anyways, but whatev).

I’ve also been taking a similar approach to the weekends. I’m watching my points/calories (I track both ways for different reasons) and then on the weekends, we enjoy a dinner out with my husband, or lunch with some girlfriends and splurge a little in the wine department. My weigh-in for WW though is on Mondays, so I do keep more in check on Sundays and let my more lenient days be Friday and Saturday.

I’ve been weighing in but not chiming in here. Got back into exercising (again) last week and decided that I was ready to start a tougher workout DVD (despite a huge lack of sleep myself).I feel great today! Thanks for continuing to weigh in and post, Roni. Even though I wasn’t recording and joining here it’s still an inspiration and I read every Wednesday. I appreciate everything you do!

Still plucking away. Still enjoying my barre class and can really tell the difference in my muscle and toning. LOVE IT! Ran on Monday which I hadn’t done in a while and it felt great, easy, enjoyable…even running the hills in the wind with a dog.

I totally get what you mean about the ‘skinny’ mentality. I think even when I hit my goal weight, I will still have some curve to me which is just fine. I don’t want to be victoria secret model like…well maybe just if my chest looked like theirs, ok. But seriously I am happy and more confident with who I am now that in 3wks I will be in the British Virgin Islands and I will wear a bikini…and not a tank kini like I did on our honeymoon a little over a year ago. That my friend is worth all the sweat!!!

So some of that gain from last week has come off, which is a relief. I know what I need to do to keep things in check. Getting enough water has been a serious downfall lately–more water would keep the snacking down, I think. Heading to a funeral in West Virginia this weekend–not anticipating a lot of great food options (vegetarian is a dirty word there!), but I know I am still responsible for whatever I choose to put in my mouth. Hope everyone has a good week!

I need to focus on more water this week and back to exercising after having unexpected/emergent surgery. It is so discouraging to be at a 7mi run to just being able to walk for exercise. Ugh! I know it will come back quickly but I will just have to cancel my 25k run in May and schedule a 10mi for July. Thanks Roni for the posts in the last couple weeks regarding “diet” and lifestyle. You get me:)

I was surprised at 2, totally stoaked. it’s been clicking recently and i’m not exactly sure what i’m doing different, i have been tracking and exercising consistently but down 5 lbs this month for a total of 20.8. I feel like i am finally making headway, close to some pants fitting etc.
best news, i fit into my wetsuit so i will be able to go surfing soon which was one of my goals, i have a bunch of short and long term goals. now all i need to do is have waves and a babysitter at the same time, YAY (surfing is my basketball/tough mudder ;) )

    Sorry about
your sleepless nights. Great job maintaining! My surgery went well
yesterday but I’ve had nothing but a lg milkshake since then ’cause I’m
somewhat scared to “eat”. I can’t keep this up though so headed to the
kitchen to see what I have on hand that I can whip up. I am hoping the
drs orders of no chewing for 3 weeks will help me get beyond this
plateau the scale has decided to stay on since January. Just have to
look at it as maintenance, right? That sounds cool. I’ve never been on
    maintenance before!!

I am on a mini vacation until tomorrow so I can’t weigh in. I feel good though. I am starting to ease back in to running after my half marathon on 3/16. I have been doing the 30 day shred (day 6) and I am so happy with how my muscular endurance is increasing through the process. I love the feeling of sore abs–makes me feel like i am accomplishing something. Normally, I get an insatiable sweet tooth before my period starts but I am having a hard time kicking it this time. I already two weeks past my period and I am still shoveling sweets like itis going out of style. My goal for the week is to cut down on the sweets and get my veggie count up. Both of those things seem to slip on vacation.

Good post Roni. Still relying on running around with my kids and cleaning house as my physical activity. Really want to start running again…but I can’t get going. I can’t wait for spring! Walks and bike rides with the kids!

Roni you are leading many into a life styles that incourages good food, movement, and examining quality of life. These are great things.
Ok last week for me was 7 pds up and this week will take it a bit higher oh I truly hope not as high as last week. I will get my eating in control again and the fluid in my body will go down and I will keep trying.
Have a great Easter and I hope the sun shines.

Well I started my period today so I am mad at my number but I always gain around 5 pounds of water weight so I am not going to get really worked up. I am not going to lie to you it is disappointing. I had a great week with my running program. I did a 8km, 14km, 5km and 6km this week and finished all without stopping. I also took a class called Ab attack and did stairs on one of my runs. My eating has been on track as well. So we will see how next week is. I better be back in the 150′s or I will be mad :) At least I will give the scale the finger as you said last week. Hope your week goes well.

  • Liesl

I remember after I lost all my weight and was feeling pretty darn good about myself I went to a group fitness class. I saw myself in the mirror next to some twenty something and my mood immediately dropped because despite all my work I still didn’t look like the twenty year old. Until I realized that that was totally unrealistic considering I didn’t look like the twenty year old when I was twenty and I sure wasn’t going to in my 40′s. LOL.

  • Erin

my husband had the same snoring issue as well as the other habit you are talking about. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I get it. the anger. grrrrrrrrrrr. It drives me to eat sometimes which I KNOW is not healthy…I try to not let it do that to me. its hard. good for you for staying strong. broken sleep is the worst.

  • Staci Moize

I always go to bed after my husband. He is always on his back snoring. Every single night I nudge him, wake him and say, “You’re snoring roll over.” I usually have to repeat this one time. Once he is on his side, the snoring is gone. Good luck! Lol

WOW, it’s been a couple weeks since I’ve posted. Only partly on purpose, still having problems logging onto this site to post from work & I forget when I get home!!
Well, I’ve had a gain of a few pounds over the last few weeks, but I did go to Maui for a week & completely enjoyed myself. I tried to be reasonable with my meals & not gain SO much weight, but it is what it is & I had an AMAZING time!!! So, I’ll have to brush myself off & get busy.

Roni thanks for the sneaking in the lesson about healthy and realistic body image. Research says that genetics contribute 30-50%. I believe it’s important to always keep that in mind while at the same time focusing on the 50-70% we have 100% control over.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shay.akpunonu Shay Lee Neves Akpunonu

As always, so encouraged by your posts. I have been following you for a couple of years now, and in the last year have actually lost 30 lbs… still have 70 to go. At this point I haven’t exactly fallen off the wagon… the wagon just isn’t moving. But your post has encouraged me to keep going!! I don’t know exactly what habit you are speaking about with your husband, but… has he had a sleep study? I know that it really helped me to correct my sleep apnea, and I know my husband has it but he won’t get it looked into… so I am forced to deal with his snoring just like you. Ugh. Anway, thanks again for sharing your life with us!! It means a lot to those of us who sometimes feel so alone in our struggle, and shows us that it can be done!

  • Veronica H.

I haven’t been weighing in for the past month because I felt guilty and didn’t want to feel accountable for the weight I gained. Well I know this is not your purpose for Wednesday weigh-ins, so it’s my own inner dialogue making me feel this way. Anyway, I’ve gained and loss the same 3 lbs. since my last posting and I’m now fighting again to do better. Thanks for helping us all to see that we shouldn’t expect perfection.
