Good morning! Normally I’m working out right now but a sick toddler has a way of changing schedules. Thankfully he’s starting to feel better but boy, the last few days have been a mess!

Anyway, my scale reading this morning was…

20130206_weighin

Works for me! I’ve been working out and food journaling like a champ!

Speaking of…

Remember the post I just wrote about keeping my journal on good old fashion paper and pencil. Well, I lied. Not on purpose. I swear! It was just after I wrote that post and read the comments I decided to give MyFitnessPal another shot and fell in love!

I don’t know why I was so hesitant to hop on the bandwagon. It’s so easy! I’ve kept an accurate food journal there since last week without a problem. I pre-enter meals when I know what I’m making for dinner or where I’m going out. The database is vast and you can customize the entries by saving your recipes or common meals. I also love that it’s community driven. There’s even a blog component for those that want to take advantage!

Honestly, this is how I always envisioned BlogToLose but I simply don’t have the resources or knowledge to build something like that.

I actually reached out to them to see if there is a way we can work together. I doubt anything will come from it, but the older I get, the ballsier I get, the more I say, Why not?

Anyway, how was your week?? I’ve been feeling a bit distant as I’ve been offline a bit these last few days and I didn’t get a chance to respond to any comments last week, but I’m uber motivated and I hope you are as well! It’s February people, if we don’t consciously make it great it, well, it kind of sucks! ;)

Oh! and if you are on MyFitnessPal friend me! And even if your not you can see my food journals there. Click here for my profile page.

I am here. Kind of. January went crazy on me and I had to work redicilous hours, was given the opportunity to go to China for a week for work (how amazing is that, by the way!!), returned home over tired, with a slight food poisoning and a load of experience. I took the decision to take time off and just rest. I have been sleeping like a log for more hours than I care to admit and am starting to feel normal again.

What can I say – life threw me a curveball and I worked with it. And even if the scale’s not my best friend right now and I am finding it a little challenging to stay awake long enough to do my day-to-day work right now and with sickness, sport has been completely out of the question, I am fine. I am at peace. Sometimes, there is stuff in life that’s more important than that. Like being allowed to go to a foreign country far away to work for your country. And manage to squeeze in a visit to the Great Wall. Good stuff if you ask me.

That being said, I CAN NOT WAIT to establish my routine again and go dance and sing at zumba and swim and just be normal and me again :)

I don’t know how that weight came off but I am thankful. Have lost my motivation since I had broncitis 3 weeks ago. I did not track my food last week, the first time since Aug. 2009. I have been careful this week so I hope I don’t go in the wrong direction on the scale. Have not been able lately to take my long walks outside and have been going to bed at night by 6:30. It is getting warmer here the next couple of days and I hope I can take some walks. Hope everyone has a good week.

Congrats on MFP! I was hesitant to try at first as well. I quit Diet Coke and started I haven’t look back since May 2012, 250 days in a row (that count gets addictive!) Friend request sent!

Just increased my run/walk intervals to 4:2 this morning and signed up for my first virtual 5K! Working on fruits & veggies by eating the “colors of the rainbow” and hoping to get to goal weight by the end of Feb.

Hope your little guy is better soon!

P.S. If any other Roni’s readers are on MFP looking for friends, send me a request (cleefelty).

super motivated, did an extra half hour at the gym, good for me and i’m trying to stretch the time till my LO’s nap and she LOVES the gym daycare. my husband, a chef, made a beautiful cod last night and it kept the momentum going. still on GLB and making new foods, sometimes it is good, sometimes i end up eating tons, but tons of healthy foods.

hope you all had a great week

Down 3.6 pounds! Finally! I’ve been struggling and struggling, and I finally managed to string a series of a few decent days together that resulted in some scale success! Great job on your loss. And I LOVE MyFitnessPal. I sent you a friend request. I love their database. It makes it so easy. I also use the scanner part with my iphone all the time. I do the same thing you do where I enter everything I plan to eat at the beginning of the day.

So up a little, but nothing major. Started a new job this week so I’ll be working M-F again at last! That means 5 days a week of packed lunches, which help me keep portion sizes reasonable (and save money vs. eating lunch out). Staying busy is the best way for me to keep mindless eating at bay.

I’ll admit that I would choose a paper food journal vs. an online one every time. Having to use a database to look up food, even if it’s only once, is just too much for me to bother with. I’m technologically lazy–I don’t even have a smart phone! :)

The 1.2 gain from last week has left the building, with another 0.8 lb on top of that. Sweet. Can’t decide what to do on my goal weight. Part of me wants to change it to 139 (something about starting with a 13 instead of a 14 feels good to my ego), but long experience says that when I actively try to push below the low 140s, my body (and my spirit) tend to rebel against the restrictions. 143 has often been a stability point where my body likes to settle.

I made it to my mini goal where I can FINALLY use my gift certificate for an hour massage and facial. Made that appointment as SOON as I saw my weight this morning! Super excited!

NSV– Yesterday I wasn’t feeling like exercising and definitely not running but I have 5.8lbs to lose to hit my birthday goal and I am determined. So I got home and changed clothes, even debated taking the dog cause she can annoy me when running but I took her. And I kept saying ‘jog to the bridge’ ‘jog to that tree’ ‘jog to the bench’ and each time I said that I was giving myself permission to walk at each landmark BUT I NEVER WALKED!!!! I ran 3.37mi at an 11min pace and didn’t walk once!!!! Yal I was soooo proud of myself!! I saved my workout on the app I use to track and walked in the door and took a happy face picture (cause I post #walkAday and workout progress on instagram) and stretched. After I stretched I was going to take a screen shot of the workout like I ALWAYS do and post it on instagram and dang it if the app didn’t have an ERROR and didn’t save the workout!!! I literally cried! I thought ‘no one is going to believe me that I ran my best pace!’ But I don’t need to prove it to anybody else but myself that I can do it. And maybe…just maybe I am slowly becoming a RUNNER. Something I’ve always admired and this dedication and determination is paying off!

Back on track after falling off and a gain last week, and it feels great! Momentum is a-rolling again! I’ve been tracking with MyFitnessPal the past few weeks, and I love it too! Although I do have to remind myself not to get obsessive…when I was sick, I even looked on there what the calories were in my Tylenol syrup…I know, I know, I should not be that OCD about it. I’m trying!

Very happy with the loss. I’ve been hovering +/- a few pounds since the holidays and have only seen this number once before. Happy to be back and soooo close to goal. Just went out and bought a couple of new pairs of smaller sized pants – NSV!! And happy to be meeting up with some long time girlfriends I haven’t seen in a year this weekend – and looking forward to enjoying good food & drinks – all in moderation & balance. Life is good.

I didn’t weigh in this week, but thought I’d check in regardless. I know I’m up a bunch from water weight. I ate too many chips for super bowl and it’s that TOM. I just feel gross and knew that hopping on the scale would only make it worse. To add to it, my left quad and IT band have been bugging me, so I’m taking a rest week from running and anything involving that leg, really. Also, my 2 year old has a cold (that I’m now getting, yay!) preventing me from going to the gym. I’m hoping to go for a nice easy run on Friday after a week off and see how my leg feels. I’ve been icing, streching, foam rolling, etc and it is starting to get better. Just overall planning on a better week. I’ve got my fridge full of fruits and veggies, and prepped several dinners of the week (today is my Monday).
Oh, and I tried your butternut squash pizzas for lunch yesterday and they were yum! That will probably be a fall back for me for quick easy dinners/lunches, especially if the rest of the family is eating “real” pizza :).

  • Casey w

Wow!!! The 140′s !! I know that feels good. I haven’t seen the 140′s since 1989. Lol !! Good job Roni. I’m putting along. Still sticking to the program but my weight loss is slow! I changed my official weigh in to Friday because that was when the new dietbet started. I should see a loss but it will be a small one. Next week I am going to Disney and that will be the test. I keep telling myself that if Roni can go to Italy and still manage a loss then I can go to Disney and be successful too. ;)

  • Dana

Just curious…what is it you like about MFP? I know there are lots of food journaling apps out there. I don’t have a smart phone so use the computer version. I prefer Spark People but hear about so many people using MFP or Lose It.

    • RoniNoone

Everything I’ve entered has been easy to find and the bar code scanner on the phone app is fabulous! Overall it just makes it easy. I’m sure I’d like Spark People too, just never explored that one in detail yet.

Sticking it! I don’t think any of the earlier times I lost weight I had realized that to maintain I basically had to do to same thing I had to do while losing… Seems so obvious but it never really sank in & I always stopped tracking & let go & ended up back where I started plus more! So now I really know – it’s about doing what i already know works but just being a little mellower about it all – and I’ve maintained since the holidaze (I know how crazy is it to hit goal Xmas week but I did! Was on a timeline for baby making so that kept me motivated!) thanks Roni & all! PS I track on WW & swear by it – so however u do it – tracking makes a HUGE difference 4 me!

  • Nadine

Roni, check out the Lose It! App. It is not as robust or developed as MFP but it is run by a small company in Boston and growing. I recently did a boot camp with my gym and we got free premium access to the app for the duration of the boot camp with the trainers able to see our food/training journals. I bet if you reached out to them you would get a response!

  • Amy

I just left MFP for WW online again, but keep hearing more and more people moving to MFP. I’m friending you and I may have to move back. It is free!

  • http://thirteenpointonemom.wordpress.com/ Maria

Great job Roni! I seem to have fallen off the weigh in wagon…..sigh. But I will keep checking in, right now I am pretty much maintaining but am looki at ways to get more motivated to lose those last10lbs. Onward and upward. :)

  • Jessica

    Great job!

I use the pen and paper method.

I have been stuck on my plateau of 162ish pounds for forever. I will lose 1-2 pounds, get stuck and frustrated, fall off the wagon and gain 1-2 pounds, and be back to where I started. Lather, rinse, repeat. Anyone have some great plateau breaking tips?

    • beth

I’ve been having the same issue for the past 2 weeks now. I’m coming back from a minor injury so exercise has been difficult. I find that planning out healthy meals and snacks helps me, because once I’ve gone to the store and bought the veggies and fruits, I have to eat them. I’ve also noticed that if I plateau and just keep making small changes (such as working out longer a couple of days a week, buying a new workout DVD) I will eventually get past it. It does take me forever though. Sorry I have nothing revolutionary to offer :-P

I weight in at 186 this week which is down 6 from last week. That is a huge loss in one week, but I know it won’t stay that way. I was hit hard with strep throat and couldn’t eat for two days. I’m hoping I can at least keep some of it off and use it as a good kick start. I love MFP, but I think the totals are a little too high for trying to lose weight. What are your thoughts on that? I’ve been trying to find recommendations for daily fat, protein, sugar, etc. intake for losing weight at a save pace (1-2 lbs weekly) but can’t find the numbers. I am sure MFP is research based, but the fat allowance seems so high. I do love how easy it is to find food on there and it’s much easier to journal digitally they with paper and pen for me. I have it on my phone and iPad and they sync to each other which is amazing! Thanks for another inspirational post!

I gained a pound this week but I am hoping it was do to gaining some muscle.
I worked hard at the gym doing weight training. I am trying to eat healthy but I am having a hard time when I am under stress.
I am working hard at losing 5 pounds by March 26th, my birthday.
That is a gift I want to give myself.

  • Jeri Lyn

I decided not to weigh in this week. My weigh-ins having been going great the past 3 weeks, small gains when I’ve been expecting losses. :( The gains have been small, but still, when you’re expecting a loss, it SUCKS!!! I’m going to hang-in & I’ll weigh in again next week. Whatever the loss/gain shows I’ll just have to deal & move on.
I haven’t worked out much this week, I’ve been sick, but I am making a plan to @ least go for a walk tonight or maybe a short run.
Hopefully things will start looking more positive next week. I’m so close to goal & then to start having small gains is really disheartening. Oh well!!!
As always, thanks for all you do Roni!!!!

I love MyFitnessPal! So glad to see you there. It’s so simple and convinient that even I use it and I HATE tracking/journaling. Thanks for the motivation! I know what you mean about February!

Recommiting to journal on MFP. Would like some “friends” for support but didn’t like stuff I
saw on the message boards. If you are a Roni follower and a fairly normal person, let me know if you would like to be MFP friends. How else do I do this????? :-) I am trishfl.
