Hey guys! I’m going to be real quick this morning as I’m trying to get this posted before I head out to the gym. Amazingly enough, both kids are still sleeping! Of course I have to make lunches, but I thought I’d sneak this post in.

I hopped on a scale for another small loss of .6 and I’m ecstatic!

That’s 4 weeks of consistent loss. My longest run in well over a year. I really do feel like tracking my food more closely has given me the small nudge I needed. I haven’t been stressing over what I should eat either. I just try to make smart choices, journal it and then use the constraint of calories to cap my eating by the end of the day. It feels SO like the good old Weight Watchers Flex plan. Apparently all I need is a simple way to track and a daily goal. I never really thought about it in that context before, but that seems to be what works best for me.

At this point I’m not going to question it. I’ll just keep chipping away. I feel great!

Okay, your turn! How’d your week go? Anything to celebrate? Any problems you want to unload on us? Comment away!

Awesome job!! I am happy myself. I have struggled for a few weeks (you had heard) but I turned the corner this weekend and I have already lost 3 lbs. More important than that, though, is just that I feel excited about exercising again. I feel excited to do something for me. I feel excited. Period.
I have been running and chasing my mojo for what seems like a very long time now, as I struggled a lot after my trip to China. I was overtired, over-wraught, outstressed, sick and generally not in order. So I made a conscious decision to wait it out, give myself time, allow myself to be weak and sleep a lot to get well again. And it paid off. So yeah. Good week :)

Actually, I can hardly believe that I can actually say that I am getting there mentally. Instead of just giving up and throwing everything in, I give myself a time off and rest and slowly work towards getting back “in the game” And it works. It really works. It means it takes me longer than I would like it to to get to my goals, but it really is all about the journey and life will not pause and be perfect for me to do something. So I do my best to roll with the punches and do what I can when I can.

    • RoniNoone

      That mental permission is invaluable.

    • Svanhvit

I know!! It really makes all the difference and I must say it keeps me going. Life’s stressful yet again, as my job’s become pretty high profile and thus more of a pressure. I think it’s pivotal that I give myself a break – it also allows me to do something instead of doing nothing.

Thanks for incentive,Roni. My daughter is also on myfitnesspal and she inspires me too. Just wondering, what is your goal weight/maintenance, for your height?
I track on both mfp and as a ww member, online there as well. Perhaps a bit obsessive, but I need to get and keep keep the weight off once and for all, and stay healthy, of course.

    • RoniNoone

My range is 135-155 I’d like to be between 140-145 it’s my happy weight. :)

  • Reen/Reen’s Journey

Roni, you inspire me to keep trying, to not give up. My WW goal weight is 150. I have been at goal for going on 4 years. However, I have been struggling for the last year to keep that goal weight. I don’t even know what I weight right now, since I have a new scale that gives me a different number every time, but I know it’s up probably at 155. I want to get under that 150 mark again, and I know I will! I WILL TRACK EVERYTHING FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. My weigh-in is Saturday morning. Maybe by then, I will at least come a little closer.

So anyway, thanks for inspiring me every single day. :)

    • Tara

Reen… I have the exact goal and am also up to 155. We can totally do it! tracking just seems to be my weakness…not sure why. I guess the accountability. So right now seeing your post, I am going to commit to being accountable and track!!! Hoping we are both at our goal again soon!

    • Reen

Tara, I totally get the tracking thing. I have ALWAYS been a tracker, but struggled with it lately. Well, okay, that and nighttime snacking.

    • RoniNoone

I’ve been sitting at the just out of reach of my goal number for over a year. I hear you. Just don’t let it get to you. You are till maintaining a loss for 4 years and that is HUGE! Pat yourself on the back for that and then get down to business. :)

    • Reen

Thanks, Roni. You are so right! Considering I was overweight most of my life, maintaining for almost 4 years is HUGE, and I can do this. Why let myself fall backwards? I WILL get down to business now. First step, getting a new scale!

i donno, i have been hovering around the same weight for 3 weeks and am getting pretty frustrated. i have been tracking everything, i’m doing ww online. i am continuing with the couch to 5k training. my breastfeeding has slowed down so i took away some points this week. i KNOW to keep going, i feel great but it is hard that i’m not losing 9 lbs a week (insert winking face)

hope you all had a great week. i am all finished with the archive blog and it makes me feel sad, i could always read at night if i needed motivation. but i am all caught up on your inspiring journey roni, thank you

That’s so awesome! You have inspired me to be more diligent with tracking and I am going to give it a serious go….I need to get out of my funk! I am up almost 5 lbs from last week and not to make excuses but I don’t think my scale is telling me the whole truth. Granted I had LOADS of fun at a girls spa weekend, but not 5 lbs worth….hmmmm. I did weights yesterday, I will prob weigh in again tomorrow and see how that goes. Completely frustrating!

I have gained…about 15lbs in the last 4 months since i became pregnant. I was freaking out a bit because I had worked SO hard to get off 35lbs this last 18 months, but I have decided to keep my choices healthy most days and work off the rest later. I have never been so hungry in my life. It wasnt like this with baby #1 (I threw up for 5 months). This time my stomach is literally growling 15 minutes after a meal. I am starting to feel better now that the 2nd trimester has hit and healthy choices are so much easier as is walking and getting into a workout routine. I look forward to posting a loss once baby is born.

P.S. Thanks for joining MFP…I totally spy at your diary for meal ideas…

I’m up 2.4 from my weigh in two weeks ago, but know that it was more last week (I checked in but didn’t weigh in!) so happy to be moving back down. I had a work trip and a great evening out with old friends, then a long weekend with a family trip this weekend. So lots of enjoying life, but happy to be enjoying in moderation and moving back down. I feel like this is what maintenance will be like, moderation, enjoying special times and bringing things back in check. I’m very close, just need to buckle under and lose the last 5 lbs – although as I’ve heard from many, think it may be the hardest to lose. Congratulations at chipping away, Roni – they all add up.

  • Tara

Roni!!!! you SOOO rock! Did you see you are on today! I have been following your blog since Fall of 2007 when I started my WW journey! Like so many others, you have been an inspiration to me! I originally lost 43 lbs post baby….after second baby I got back down. Now well into maintenance, though still struggling to keep my goal weight. I am vowing to recommit to tracking…so simple but so necessary! BTW, after you ran your marathon, you totally inspired me to run and I have completed 2 1/2′s. woot woot! Thanks for all you do to inspire so many! and Congrats on all your successes!!!

I’m considering this a maintain, which I think is good because Sunday and Monday were not good days for me, but I guess you’ll have that. I busted my butt the rest of the week, doing two workouts even on Saturday (yoga, then ran) instead of waiting until the next day to get a run in.

I bought the Activelink from Weight Watchers and I’m out of my assessment phase. I’m a lot more active than I thought I was. I average 5 AP per day, even though I had three days that I didn’t work out. I’m now on a challenge to up that to 7 AP per day within the next 12 weeks.

I just wanted to thank you Roni, reading your post about my fitness pal really made me take the step to join and start tracking again. I have been hanging out at 165 for months and getting really frustrated. So I read your post and joined and tracked my food. After the first day it opened my eyes. I was eating extra calories even though they were healthy choices. It is a really easy site and I actually enjoy it now. Thank you for excepting me as a friend. I find your food journal gives me ideas, and your fitness updates help keep me motivated. Keep up the good work. Thanks again,

I lost a bit, which I’ll count success. Inspired by you, I’m giving WW a bit and trying MFP for a while. I logged a lot of calories a few days, but met my running and strength training goals. I had a soft start to my half marathon training, meaning my first LR was what I’m used to, but added some speedwork. I’m excited to start running longer! It’s been a weird week “feeling” wise. For the most part I’ve felt skinnier and stronger and even had two coworkers mention how “skinny” I look, then a cashier at Target asked when I’m due…Really??? Anyhow, I’m planning to buckle down on the eating a bit more this week (ie NOT log a 3000 calorie day!). I’m headed to the store in a few minutes to stock up on healthy fruits and snacks since our kitchen is practically empty!

(i honestly think it isn’t but there is something mental about the tens value changing that makes it feel like it’s an eternity)

i’m closing in on my spring break week, and have to start the usual unpleasant experience of picking a new swim suit. i haven’t been this excited since i was 17? my suit from last year is TOO BIG!!! and i’m looking forward to the experience! woo hoo! all my hard work is finally having it’s payday!

I’ve been tracking with My Fitness Pal, and I am down. It *does* really work. But here’s where I get stuck with tracking – the minute I can’t find something in the database, I either decide not to eat it, or don’t track that day at all. I need to learn to be happy with tracking the best I can, and enjoying meals that can’t always be precisely measured. Baby steps… always.

    • RoniNoone

This is a struggle, I used to be the same way. Now I just pick the closest thing I can find and trust the process. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just consistent.

THANK YOU for doing your post not too long ago about MFP. I have been tracking on paper off and on, but I tend to fall off the wagon. I have been using MFP and it is so user friendly, much easier than I thought! I am down 1.6 from last week. Even better, my hips are down 1/2 inch! and for this pear shaped girl, that is a miracle. I have been doing Killer Buns and Thighs by Jillian Michaels and tracking, and
Thank you for having your food diary public, it is nice to see what you eat every day.
Lastly, thank you for not going crazy with Crossfit posts. I used to love another blog (Carrots N Cake) and it has gone so Crossfit Crazy that I cant even read it any more. Obviously it is your blog, but I love your style now and appreciate you intend to keep it that way.

I’m not really sure why I continue to post my weight. I’ve been on my weight loss journey for many many years and this is the closest I’ve ever come to succeeding at reaching a healthy weight. I have been bouncing up and down around the same 2.5 pounds for months now. Did you ever know wholeheartedly that you are not doing anything to sabotage your weight loss yet the scale is not reflecting your hard work? I keep telling myself to trust the process. I workout regularly, track my food (WW until a few weeks ago and now back to Spark People) and eat a healthy diet made up of primarily whole foods. I’m so frustrated I could scream.

    • beth

Sorry to hear that, I’ve been there too. The ONLY way I’ve been able to make the scale budge after a certain point has been to really shake up my workout intensity/ variety. I know that may not work for everyone, but it helped me when I was honestly and truly eating right and working out regularly and not getting below 145 no matter what else I did. Good luck.

    • Aimee

Thanks so much Beth. After running the Philly Marathon in November when the plateau began I did change things. My emphasis has been primarily on running so I started seeing a personal trainer, going to yoga and made my diet as clean as possible. I think that is what is so frustrating at this point. I am going to continue to tweak things until I get it right because there is no quitting this time around.

    • RoniNoone

I agree with Beth, it’s time to shake things up. I know it’s frustrating but keep in mind that the scale is only a one MINOR measure of success. Maybe set some consistency or fitness goals? Change your focus to something else, it may help!

    • Aimee

I appreciate your comment Roni. I am going to keep making changes until I achieve results both on the scale and off. My head is spinning because I have never worked so hard at weight loss. I am not lying to myself or making excuses. I am really doing the work. I train for races regularly. I’ve seen my speed improve considerably over the last year. I have made strength training a regular part of my workouts. I’m tracking every morsel that goes into my mouth. I just keep repeating “trust the process.” In times past I would have given up by now. Not this time. Thanks so much.

No change this week, but it wasn’t a great week with food, so I’ll take it. This week will probably also be difficult, as its the husband birthday on Saturday & he wants to go out to my favorite (& probably most unhealthiest) place for dinner. Then we’re going to a Nascar party on Sunday. So my goal will be to make conscious decisions & hopefully @ least maintain.
Been real good on the exercise side, got up the past two mornings @ 4am to run 3.5 miles on my treadmill (or “dread”mill). You see for me to get my run in before work, I do have to get up @ 4am, I have to be to work @ 6:30am!!
Signed up for another trail marathon on 4/13/13 & i’m really nervous!! The last one I did in September was awful!!!!! Though, hindsight, probably scheduling a full trail marathon only 3 1/2 months after major surgery, maybe not such a great idea??!!???
