Wednesday Weigh In – My 8 Things To Kick Off The New Year

I’ve been thinking about my plan to kick off the new year and how I don’t want to make resolutions as much as just refocusing to help capture the natural motivation that happens at the start of a new year.

So I’ve made a list things I’m trying to emphasize in 2013.

Scheduling workouts.
Even go as far as putting repeating events in for classes that fit your schedule.
Focus on the positive!
I read so many negative comments in the last few days –I ate too much, I look horrible, the scale was was worse than I thought, blah, blah, blah– STOP! Just stop. It’s the first step to breaking the cycle. Tell your inner mean self to shut the heck up and move on.
Prep and plan as much as possible.
Cut fruit and veggies on the weekend, plan a few meals, freeze leftovers for lunch. Planning is more than half the battle.
Get out of your comfort zone.
Whether it be what you’re eating, what you’re wearing how your moving. Try new stuff. I did this yesterday with breakfast!
Challenge yourself and get excited about it.
Have fun with it. This is why I do #YogaADay and #PlankADay. It’s fun and challenging yet low commitment. You can find 1 minute to do a plank you just have to WANT to and that’s where the excitement comes in. Embrace it. Have fun with it. Get creative. Involve some friends.
Decide what you’re ‘non- negotiables’ are.
I wrote about this before. You can’t do it all but you can decide what gets done. Don’t put yourself at the bottom of the list!
Value Sleep.
By far my worst habit is staying up to late and eating something I regret in the morning. Don’t procrastinate bed time. All the work and chores will be there in the morning. And TV? Well that’s why they make DVRs.
Accept that there is no perfect.
Your diet. Your body. Even the number on the scale. It will never be perfect but that doesn’t mean you just stop. Keep moving forward. Perfect isn’t the prerequisite to reach your goals. Consistency is.

These things are helping frame my mindset as I work towards reaching my goals this year.

Speaking of, hopping on the scale this morning was, well, interesting. But before I go there let me just say I am FLOORED at the response of my NewYear’s DietBet. As of the writing of this post we are at 491 players and $9,760 in the pot!

That’s INSANE!

Now, I want and NEED to stress that in no way is the DietBet taking over my Wednesday Weigh Ins. I’ll still be here every week to weigh in with you and share my thoughts on losing and maintaing a weight loss. That’s not going to change. I just liked the idea of offering a fun twist to kick off the new year and get us motivated.

Anyway, so my interesting scale showed this this morning…

Which is funny because it showed this 2 days ago when I weighed in for DietBet…

Umm yea, that makes NO sense and I’m not letting it bug me. It’s just a number and I know it will catch up to reflect the good choices I’ve been making. I KNOW it will, but still, that scale really likes to mess with our heads, doesn’t it?

Anyway, happy weigh in day. I hope you all had a great holiday break. I have so much work to catch up on today it’s making my head spin, but I’m looking forward to getting back to some routine.

    I made it through the season and I lost 1.8 in two weeks. I am so happy and lucky to start the year with a job, home, and the ability to have choices in my life (so many women around the world don’t). Hope you all found joy in the coming year!

    You know, I totally agree with what you said about the negative self talk. I used to be the worst at it, but for about a month or so, I have challenged myself to stop. Instead of saying “I ate bad,” I try to just say, “I ate this” and accept it. And instead of focusing on hating parts of my body, I focus on making myself healthier and stronger. It made the Holidays so much more enjoyable because I didn’t feel “guilty”. And I only ended up gaining 2 lbs!

    That’s a great list – and I think stayng positive may be the most important to me. The junk food is out of the house, I have a meal plan and a workout plan, and am ready to go! But I am not setting any type of timeframe this year; as long as I keep working at being healthy, I don’t care how much I lose (or not) each week.

    I started the New Year off yesterday with a spectacular 10K race. I got a PR. Today I am down just slightly from my pre-holiday weigh in. I feel great. The holidays posed their own challenges as always, cookies in my case, but I caught myself before things got too outrageous. 2013 is going to be the year I reach my goal weight and then some!     I’m going to wait till next week for a weigh-in, for a specific reason. But I’ll share my NSV for the holiday season – when I got dressed for my first day back at work this morning, I put on the pants that are my barometer for too many pounds gained. They fit without pain!

    Husband is on board with me this time, so hopefully that will help. I am still recovering from shoulder surgery, so my exercise options are limited, but I am re-joining the gym next week. First goal is to be 155 when we take a trip south in May.

    Let me first say I am so happy to report a grand total of 38 lbs lost since July 2012. This is the first time I can remember not gaining a significant amount of weight from Thanksgiving to the New Year. Now down to business.

    MY huge NSV this week is that over the last week, I have had a head cold that has I felt so crappy that all I wanted to do was feed my face. And I didnt. I stayed with counting calories and lost 2.2 pounds this week!!!

    Just a week ago, the number 155 appeared on the scale. I was shocked that my holiday experiment with carbs had gone so far afield. Then I read an article on how insulin resistance affects women over 40….it was so helpful. A week later, with no real “diet” but just protein, fat, and moderate veggies, I am within sight of my happy weight. I can’t quite believe how much better I feel. I share this only because I wish I’d read it myself long ago! I would have been saved a lot of struggle and heartache (and some lara bars, dates, and brown rice tortillas, and chocolate, and “healthy” cookies etc etc)….thanks for being here, Roni! It is wonderful t be on a journey towards good self talk and habits with you. And my new workout gear is great too! Thanks for the heads up on that!!

    I am actually thrilled with my numbers. 227 is what I weighed at the beginning of December, so I stayed the same, in essence, for the month of December. And that’s great! My measurements, though, show I lost an inch from my bust, waist and hips each in the same time frame! So exciting.

    Well I knew the scale would show a gain over the last month and I was ok with that. I enjoyed my holiday and took a break from my schedule. I am not going to lie, I am bummed that I am back in the 170’s but oh well, move on. In the last week I have ran, 5km,6km,5km and did a 10km x-country ski, so I am happy to say I am back on track and loving it. All the cheese and wine were great but I am happy to be back to the veg again. Signed up to a half marathon for June and wrote out my running program on my calendar so I am read to take the new year on and make some hay. Thanks for the positive post. Always

    I haven’t weighed in for two weeks due to traveling at Christmas. I had told myself that I would make good choices, and while some of them were, more weren’t. My weigh in this morning was 6.2 pounds higher than the one from two weeks ago. OMG.

    I’m not terribly surprised, but it definitely stinks. It’s time to regroup and refocus myself and get back on track.

    I’m up, I believe it’s a pound but to be honest I’m not 100% sure as I haven’t been paying terribly close attention the last couple weeks. Anyway, the Holiday Biggest Maintainer weigh-in I participated in ended today and I’m down 6.5 pounds from our starting weigh in so it’s net progress. I didn’t go in on DietBet only because I’m too close to goal and I don’t think I can lose that much in a month anymore (my progress is more 2-3 pounds a month-ish) but I will be cheering for the rest of you!

    Have registered to walk for my first 10k in March so I started training yesterday. I’m hoping that registering and committing to this race will help me stay focused on my exercise goals.     so i was up almost 3 lbs from last week, but it was worse in the middle of the week if you can believe it. i started to freak a tad because i had been so good the week before but then realized that it was probably because
    1. i hadn’t exercised AT ALL for almost 10 days due to the craziness of the holidays,
    2. the extra cheer i was sipping on
    3. AND the ham i was eating EVERY meal to get rid of
    4. i joined DIETBET and figured there was NO WAY i wouldn’t reach my 4% once it started (WHAT MOTIVATION!!)

    i’m feeling much more in control knowing the holiday parties, celebrations and goodies are BEHIND me. Dietbet is just what i needed to get my body fine tuned for my ARUBA spring break trip in MARCH!!! thanks roni!! this is so exciting!

    Well, my scale shows no change since last week’s weigh-in. Still above my lowest weight recorded in these Wednesday checks, but within my maintenance range. I am honestly surprised there wasn’t a gain this week, but will take the grace period, and am getting back to normal today after a week out of town.
