Wednesday Weigh In – Focusing on NSVs

73 Comments 3269 views

Sorry for the late Wednesday Weigh-ins lately. With my new schedule it looks like I won’t get the post up until at least 11AM. If you weigh in earlier just jot down the number and check in with us a little later in the afternoon or even tomorrow. And if you weigh in a different day that’s cool too. Remember, it’s all about what works for you. I won’t shut off comments so feel free to even post on the weekend if you are a saturday weigher.

Ok, on to my week.

I’m down .4. You guys know me. I refuse to say ONLY. It’s progress and I’m owning it. It’s also the first weigh in since 11/21 that hasn’t showed a gain and that makes me happy.

When the scale doesn’t seem to be showing much love, it’s time to recognize all your NSV (Non-scale victories.) Actually, I’d argue focusing on NSV is always more productive.

This week I started my new CrossFit routine and I’m kicking butt! I have also continued #YogaADay and haven’t missed a #PlankADay since I started. My fridge is full of fresh food and I’m chipping away at a 2lb bag of kale. I also successfully made a whole chicken on Sunday and have been enjoying homemade chicken and brown rice soup for snacks all week. Last night I experimented with Spicy Butternut dish with black beans and peas. I had a good self-talk and turned something I would have seen as a negative into something positive. I am motivated and moving forward.

So the scale didn’t show a huge loss but who cares, my NSVs are defining my success. That’s what really counts at the end of the day.

Ok, so weigh in or not this week I want everyone to give me AT LEAST 1 NSV in the comments. It only takes one to start some positive momentum!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I feel panicked. I over ate yesterday afternoon until I went to bed, I was feeling tired and looking for a quick solution. The day before I had weighed myself and I was at 180. So, that is a 5 lb. weight gain in 12 hours! I ate great the whole week except for yesterday. Wow. My body holds onto everything.
Well, back to my routine. I even worked out for the first time yesterday in a while, so I’m excited to keep adding that into my day.

Ok, so I had about 2-3 days of binge this weekend. It got to the point of embarrassing. I was so full on Sunday night – I had trouble sleeping. Yuck. I actually knew it was pretty gross while I was eating, but just didn’t stop. Call it stress, emotions, self-destructive…. it’s passed and I’m moving on. I got right back on the treadmill on Monday morning and went to Sam’s to stock up on veggies last night. I have to bring something to a Holiday party on Thursday and I’m bringing a veggie try and hummus. Not as cool and fun as a dip but I gave myself insurance on healthy options. I have a feeling that if I stick with the “back on track” mindset through the weekend, that 2 pounds will go back to where they came from relatively quickly. Here’s hoping! Thanks for keeping me accountable, Roni!

These are my stats from last week. I did not weigh in this week…I just cannot do it. We’ve been trying to get pregnant and we’re not and I’m way too emotional about it so I am choosing NOT to add more stress to my life this week. So if that makes me a coward or in denial so be it. ;) My NSV though is continuing to get up every morning at dawn and workout even though my super emotional self would like to just feel sorry for myself and stay in bed. Thanks for this post today, I really needed it. See you next week.

Not sure how long you have been TTC, Maria, but don’t give up all hope. DH and I tried for three and a half years to conceive without even a “I think I might be pregnant.” Just today my baby and I hit 5 months. :-D I still stalk Roni’s site, but I am not trying to lose weight anymore, just trying to eat healthy for both me and the little one.

Thanks, it really hasn’t been that long that we have been trying…it was juist SOOO easy the first time that I had high hopes I guess. I’m just emotional about stuff like this, most times probably a little too much. I feel like my time is running out because of my age also so that is playing on my emotions as well. ;)

That extra pound I’ve been keeping on the ropes finally won a round this week, and I know why and it was worth it. And now I know how much cake is too much cake for me to eat, even if it was eaten to help my dearest friends get rid of leftover wedding cake! NSV for the week (I guess) was that I tried to balance out the very bad day with a very good one, eating light and healthy. Now I just need to keep it up for the rest of the week and I’ll win the next round.

I am perfectly content with no change this week. After an emotional end to last week, I went totally off the rails for a fuzzy 48 hours. Thank god for the relative anonymity of the internet: a few weeks ago I asked for prayers for my brother and sister-in-law who were experiencing dire complications with their twin pregnancy. Well, the pregnancy was a hoax. No babies, no stillbirth, no baby in the NICU for 5 days before passing away. It was all a bunch of lies, and I am still in shock from the cruelty of it all. Who does that??

NSV #1 is being able to comfortably wear an awesome dress to my husband’s office holiday party. My anticipated NSV #2 will be taking the box of holiday goodies a coworker gave me home to my husband tonight without even taking a peek.

It’s getting harder now that I am 41 to lose. I was out of town and gained a few additional pounds to the additional pounds I’d gained. I started climbing again last Fall after dropping to 174 through exercise and diet. I am trying to look at the positive side of things but am having a rough week. I guess not eating much due to stress has taken its toll. I’m not sleeping well and am utterly exhausted but have very little appetite. I couldn’t even eat breakfast this morning. I tried to take a few bites but just gagged. What I am eating is healthy; I haven’t turned to chocolate. At least that’s a positive in all the stress that is my life right now. I leave for a trip for my doctoral program tonight and have packed clothes to work out. I figure if I can’t sleep there I may as well wander to the fitness center and sweat it out. It certainly couldn’t hurt…

I did great until Saturday morning and my WW meeting, but have been struggling since – a couple of holiday events and the goodies are already invading my house. Note to self: salty and sugary combination snacks (ie pretzels with chocolate) should be a must-not-have-in-the-house food. But hoping to end up the week strong.

new low on Wednesday weigh in. Saturday and Sunday I was 109.8 which is my lowest but Sunday and Monday are my stress days. But Wednesday weigh ins make me really think about what I am putting in my mouth. Wednesday is my hardest day to weigh in and so it is really good for me to due so. In the last 11 days I have only eaten mindlessly one day and this is good for me.

NSV is that this is the second week not playing the game on that i have been playing for the last 3 months. i’ve been able to continue living with the same direction (drinking 3L water each day, eating 4 fistfuls of veggies a day, eating every 2-4 hours, moving atleast 20 minutes a day, eating carb/protein/fat every meal) that the game requires and it is very empowering!!! (ESP when i’m baking Christmas cookies and getting deliveries of edible presents!!!) everything seems more like a lifestyle instead of a diet. WOO HOO!!!

I don’t usually post my weigh-in, since I weigh in on Tuesdays, but… I feel like I’ve been invited to share my weigh-in, no matter what the day. So, here’s yesterday’s stats:

    HW: 252 (in 2003)

Recent HW: 200 (in May 2012)

    CW: 188.2

    GW: 170

I’m particularly proud of my recent losses (1.1 lbs this week, 0.6 last week), mainly because I tend to gain and lose the same few pounds, and only net maybe a pound lost a month if I’m lucky. BUT I just got braces (yes, the orthodontic kind) a couple weeks ago, and got four teeth pulled this part Thursday. So, my NSV is that my new orthodontics are forcing me to recognize when I want to mindlessly eat, and that all my eating has been mindful, even if it’s a necessity at this point.

What is now a necessity will soon become a habit, especially since I’m going to have these braces on for over two years! :-)

I’m not surprised by the gain this week. My eating was all over the place. I also had a great night hanging with my best friend (who lives oot) and we spent 2hours at the gym and then undid it all with girl talk and cookies :). I’ll focus on the NSV and move on. Next week is another week. I’ve been rocking the gym and the workouts. I’ve gone to a TRX class consistantly each week for 7 weeks now. I’m starting to feel stronger and see a little definition in my arms if I look close :). I’ve also upped the cardio, running a total of 14miles this week, plus almost 90min combined of elliptical, as well as a new body conditioning class (mostly weights). I’m finally getting my money’s worth and utilizing the gym child care. My kids LOVE it and I enjoy 60-120min of child free sweat time while the hubby is at work :). Now that I finally feel in control of my work-outs and a consistant routine, I need to focus more on my eating habits and clean things up a bit.

Well, I am pleasantly surprised. I did not do too well this week with my food. McDonald’s yesterday when I was really angry. Too much cider and wine all week. Lots of cheese on the weekend. But, you know what, I also went for walks when I really didn’t want to, I stuck to my weights workout routine and added 3 extra reps per set, I’m a third of my way to my goal of doing 100 push ups (yay!) and I climbed the mountain near my house that I attempted twice last week and chickened out on. So yeah, it has been a week of good and bad.

Very happy with the loss this week. As I said last week, my goal is to ‘maintain’ (+/- 3 lbs or so) through the holidays. I had a cookie exchange and my first work holiday luncheon this week and managed well. My NSV: was able (more than once) to try a bite of a cookie (I have 10 different kinds from the cookie exchange, plus some at work) and if I didn’t LOVE it either give the rest to my hubby or throw it out. If I’m going to use points/calories on a treat, I want to enjoy it fully, not just eat it because it’s there – and I did it! Have a good week everyone.

A bit of backstory before I tell my NSV. My weight has crept up since June until I hit 10 pounds over my goal weight. In an effort to become motivated to move more and stop the creep, I bought a FitBit and got an invite to NeuFit. The combination has been successful for me and I’ve seen the scale respond.

NSV: Last night, I was sitting on the couch with my husband. I got up to go into the kitchen for something and when I walked past him, he swatted my butt, then blurted out, “Oooh, tight!” Yay, FitBit! All those steps and stairs are starting to pay off in a tangible way!

Funny, your post is so very similar in feeling to my own weigh in post today. I’m up 0.6 lbs, but I’m not letting it get me down. I’m running and feeling great about it. I am making healthier choices. I registered for a 10K this week in New Freaking York City. I’m not going to get derailed by a week in a season that is fraught with temptation. It is what it is. My NSV for the week will be…progressing to Stage 3 of “Run Your Butt Off”!! For me this means I am up to a run/walk interval of 2:4, total “running” (ok, jogging!) appx 10-12 minutes depending on 5 or 6 sets. So excited and feel great!! Week #6 of 8 towards my iPod Shuffle :) And I am so tempted by the workout gear you posted ’bout Roni, maybe a future incentive!!

I have been baking/making cookies. I have faithfully logged on MFP, including the cookie dough I had for lunch (gasp!) last Friday. I tested the finished product. But, I logged it. We had a breakfast buffet with Santa Sunday and I enjoyed, but logging it kept me feeling guilt-free and accountable.

I am thrilled at where my head is at right now, if that makes sense? My only worry is I’ve convinced myself this is a lifestyle change and not a “diet”, but am I believing hype, or have I really changed?? Working on that answer…if there is one!

Thanks everyone and have a great week :)

I am up a pound today. I thought I would show a big loss, but I am hanging onto a lot of water.

My NSV came as a shock to me. I normally release my emergency brake before I get into my truck as I am unable to reach it otherwise. Well one day last week I forgot then reached down to pull the lever and was able to due to my reduced stomach roll. Next I am looking forward to being able to drain the bathtub without having a “lake” behind my “butt dam” LOL

Im back! I weighed in Monday, and I was up, up and away! .. Really, my heart sank. I have to let that happen less…. I decided right then I have to snap into it, so Ive been keeping a food journal – nothing fancy, just the Notes app that came with my iPhone. But – Its working. This morning I was down a smidge, I feel like that was a sign telling me to not give up.

    Thanks Roni!!

Down one this week! NSV- going to bed and waking up thinking positively about my ability to eat healthy. Before this past month, I was going to bed and waking up feeling terrible about myself because my eating and exercise was so out of control. Feels great to be able think positively again.

Inspiring to read the NSVs! Mine is that I had to travel for work on Sat. I ate a healthy breakfast, packed a healthy lunch and snack in a cooler, and squeezed in a 10 minute walk when I arrived at a client site early. I planned and executed. Eating McDonald’s was not going to make working on Sat any better!

I weighed myself on Sunday night and found that I have gotten to my highest weight ever. It’s time to make some serious changes. My NSV is that I have stayed on program the last three days. This is the longest I’ve been “on program” in the last 2 years. I can do this and will do this. It’s a new day and a new life for me and my family.

I have half a dozen sweaters and several nice pieces of clothing that I can wear again after eight years. The NSV is that I had the foresight to keep them so long :) I’m loving each and every one of them all over again!

Got on the scale this morning hoping (praying, finger crossing, begging) to be under 160 and the scale said 163. Totally convinced that the hard wood floor in the bathroom was causing the scale to be wrong, I moved the scale at least 100 times to different angels across the floor and weighed over and over again. Finally got the scale to register consistently at 162. Guess I’ll take it. Has to be the peanut butter addiction keeping me from losing more. NSV-got up at 4:50am after working till 8:30pm last night and rode over 22 miles in SPIN class this morning…

Down 1/2 pound from last week! Yay me! My NSV this week is keeping up with my cardio 6 days, 1 day off a week. My goals is to do this until the 1st of the year, it should keep the pounds off over the holidays!

    Maintaining 10 months.

Trending higher this week. Too many carbs in that late night Lara Bar. Back to berries only for fruits.

Let’s see…. NSV- I’m still wearing my goal weight pants and clothes from 10 months ago. I’m still finding decent clothing at the second hand store. Whoooo- blouse from Italy. Spiffy looking for work and only $14. Love. :)

    Hi Roni,

So glad to have you here. Thanks for posting a pic you were not fond of, and for discussing NSV. Have had hard time, in a bit of a slump, and it is largely a battle between two versions of myself:

    1. it is the holidays and i am five pounds from goal and so why not indulge

    2. it is not fun being now seven pounds from goal and it feels better to be in control with food, avoiding sugar, and letting myself feel the thin feeling….

Thanks for being here !! Dawn

NSV- Making it to the gym 4 days this week even though the temperature was only 23 degrees outside!

YEA, down .6 so happy!!! I’m ashamed to admit how much of a loss helps my FUNK, but it does!!! Today is going to be very stressful, so hopefully I don’t let is unravel me!!
NSV, been really good with my workouts this week (so far), two treadmills runs & a long walk with the hubby. I’m really making an effort not only to lose weight, but to be more fit!!
    As always, THANKS Roni!!!!

Well, I was hoping that another day would relieve the bounce but no luck. So here are yesterday’s numbers:

    HW: 242.5

CW: 147 (what am I complaining about, right?)

GW: only one – don’t gain the weight back. Anything else is extra.

    H: 5’6″

    Age: 60

    Weight change this week: +.5lbs

Next week, it will be three years since I started on this latest journey. I’ve lost 95 pounds and I’ve kept that loss off for a year. I eat clean, I enjoy exercising daily. It’s a daily effort that is gradually getting both easier and more fun. It’s time for me to acknowledge that.

Down 2.2 from last week. I need to break this plateau and get moving more. Bottom line. Tired of dancing around same number.

NSV- challenging myself and pushing myself with the #plankaday challenge and #squat challenge. I haven’t done them every day but often enough that I can feel soreness in legs and abs. LOVE IT!

I am renewing my commitment to hit my goal weight. We are planning on a waterpark vacation in March and I better be much closer to it by then

What kind of a waffle maker do you have? I have never owned one and am SO tempted to get one every time I look through GLB and see your son happily munching on your homemade waffles instead of the Eggos I buy.

I am a new reader…my NSV this week was my hubby asking me why did I need to take my jeans along to change into after yoga class? I said “I can’t wear yoga pants in the stores.” He said “Why not? You look really good in them.” I think I am going to keep him. Also, just for the record, my wt didn’t budge for almost seven months. Recently I dropped about two pounds. It is harder to not let those numbers get to me, but I am learning they ARE just numbers…not the end of the world. Besides, that doesn’t happen until the 21st anyway. :)

I was reluctant to post, then I realized that I have a great NSV. I successfully wore a pair of pants that I haven’t been able to get into since college. A pair of Aeropostale 13/14s, much lower cut than I have been able to get away with in a long time. They actually fit much better than some of my bigger sizes, HOWEVER they are also Longs, and are apparently TOO long for me because I kept stepping on them!

270 yesterday and down 7 from last week. Posting is helping me keep the food choices in perspective. My goal is 4-6lbs. per month. So far, so good. My next goal is joining the gym. This hasn’t happened yet but will right after Christmas.

Up and down with the same four or five pounds it seems. Started working out so that is great. Going out of my comfort zone tomorrow night, leaving my kiddo ernight with grandm while my hubby and I fly to SF to celebrate the opening of my BFF’s business. Gotta keep my eating in check and be mindful but still enjoy myself.
