Wednesday Weigh In: It’s About How You FEEL

53 Comments 4157 views

We’ve heard it a million times, right?

Slow weight loss is permanent weight loss.
You should’t lose more than 2 lbs a week.
Big losses are mostly water weight anyway.

Of course that doesn’t matter too much to us when we hop on the scale after a great week of staying on plan, watching our points/carbs/cals/whatever, and drinking all our water. Our minds race with excitement and we are filled with hope and positivity the scale will reflect our amazing effort. We did pass up that slice of birthday after all, that couldn’t have been all for not.

Ok, ready?

Here goes….

Down .4 after another amazing less processed week.

I’ll take it!

I refuse to let the scale or the number ruined how awesome I’ve been feeling lately. First of all .4 is nothing to sneeze at. It’s a loss.

A loss is a loss.

Second of all I’ve been feeling amazing! Two weeks into eat less process (note: not UNprocessed as that felt way too restrictive and ended up backfiring on me. Click here to see my less processed food journal on instagram.)

Last night @RunningRachel asked

My 140 character response really sums it up.

Listen, the scale is going to say what it’s going to say but there’s no denying how you FEEL. That should always be the most important indicator of your success.

I feel amazing, inspired, motivated, and energetic.

How do you feel this week?

What amazing timing. I JUST got off the scale and was +1 so I started feeling bad. But over the last few days I’ve felt great! I haven’t drank any alcohol and I’ve been in the gym sweatin! Gotta remember that those mean more than some number. <3

WOW! I cannot even believe it, I switched up my exercise and started doing more weights. I am taking a break from all the half marathon training running I was doing. So maybe I just was stuck and needed to change. Super excited! Yippeee!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to thank you again for how wonderful and timely your posts always are. You described my feelings perfectly, getting on the scale after an awesome week, doing everything I should: working out, staying on point, and then….nothing! The difference is I gave up! I was feeling good, looking better, and one week where the scale didn’t move and I allowed that to defeat me. I so appreciate your post, I am back on the wagon. Keep doing what you do you are an inspiration!

I went up this week but I did well for 10 weeks and that is amazing for me. I started back to school and had fall break without the scale going up. This week is not looking good but I anticipated that happening and I just need to keep going and not give up this time. In a couple of months I will be down instead of up.

Haven't stepped on a scale in month (mine broke and I didn't miss it since I started crossfit and putting on muscles) and I feel amazing!! :)

Horrible confession…. I knew I was up this week (1 lb), and it occured to me last night that maybe just maybe you would still be w/o power today so you wouldn’t post & I wouldn’t have to fess up. Touche, no such luck for me, but I’m glad you’re back up & running! This is the time of year I typically gain, and I really don’t want that to happen this year. But I’ve popped out of that groove where I was sticking at one weight, and now it keeps swinging up, and then back down….but that’s the first sign that the trend upward is beginning. Agh! I’m going to try hard this holiday season to reserve the indulgences for really special things that maybe I haven’t tried before. At my age, do I really need to taste some things again, since they probably haven’t changed? I also need to get on board w/the less-processed idea, because that’s what usually gets me in trouble this time of year.

Had a big gain of 5lbs last week, so happy that a good chunk of that came off. Not a bad week, but I’m not ‘feeling’ in the groove. I’m snacking more and know it’s stress related, just need to better manage it. Hope to get the good feeling back this week. Starting today!

Honnestly I woke up feeling great this morning in spite of a very bad few days of eating. I have a few more days of parties with too much food and wine around and I actually feel ready to face the challenge!! I actually am craving the fruit and veggie tray the most of all the goodies waiting in our breakroom for the halloween potluck!!

I am so on board with taking how you feel as a great measure of progress! I am happy this week with my loss of almost a pound. Calories have been in check every day, even the three days we were mostly stuck at home due to Hurricane Sandy. Getting in lots of water has been very helpful. I would love to be at 125 by Thanksgiving.

I posted last week I wasn’t sure I trust my scale, and I definitely do not! I stepped on it Saturday morning and I weighed 139! HA HA AH, funny ;), went to weight watchers for my official and I was at 145.6, right where I want to be. I had 4 runs this week and I have been hungry, but have also been able to balance what foods I am eating. Sure, you want some chips? go for it, but only a few, then go have an apple and better n’ peanut butter :) I had a health assessment yesterday as well, and the scale said 144 even, but I won’t count that as official. I think I am going to go back to weighing in every week at weight watchers, this once a month thing is hard for me now that I am at lifetime.

BLAH!!!!!!!!!!! That’s what I’m feeling and I can’t stand it! Trying so hard to shake it. I have done well and I let one weekend of fun shoot my success down! Last week weighed 165 and the next day weighed 164.4 and do you know how EXCITED I was when I saw 164!??!?! Then went on a small weekend get away with friends and blew it! But I have to stay on track and focus! I have to! I can’t let this gain control me. Signed up for a 5k on Thanksgiving….going to keep training and have that help push me! Kind of want to cry for a second…ugh.

UP 1.5 this week. I know I have been eating TOO much halloween candy and I have been skipping the gym. I have stated 30 day shred AGAIN, for about the 4th time so I am hoping I can stick with it. All the classes I loved and kept me motivated at my gym have been canceled so I am trying to find my groove again.

After months of trying, I’m finally in the 130’s! Hip Hip Horay! But I got there after being sick all day Sunday with migrane headache that resulted in me not being able to eat anything all day. But I have been keeping steady with my workouts and clean eating (maybe stray a bit on the weekends). I’ve found the less sugar I eat, the less I crave it. Don’t even seem to really miss it. Now to do that with salty snacks. But I feel this is sort of a breakthrough for me.

So, I am up 1. something. … and I know why.
Why is it so challenging some weeks to just stay sane, and some weeks I float through and eat and move like I want to !
One foot in front of the other, keep moving, I will get there.

First congrats to you, Roni! My weight is just the same, I am at a point where I am not happy about the #, but not unhappy enough to do something about it. i get that way sometimes, then I hope for the day that I feel motivated enough to lose a few more pounds. Yes, I am working on keep that # no higher than it is. I am surprised the # is not higher. Mondays are my new stress day, the week has began and weekend is over, something triggers me to stress eat.

I feel so much better when I eat “real” food! I read in a book a quote from Dr Oz that I love. It went something like this,”Think of what you put in your mouth as a prescription for your health and ask yourself if your doctor would prescribe for you what you are about to eat”.

I am currently the exact same weight as I was last week. There is a reason why but I am happy with the decisions I made this past week. Saturday i went to a friends birthday/halloween party – I watched my diet all day so that I could have a few drinks (which I did…maybe a few too many). Monday night I was craving a fast food burger – although I did stay within my points the water retention was probably an issue. Then yesterday I bought some halloween candy. We don’t have any trick or treaters so I bought halloween candy just for me (and the husband). I am a chocolate addict. We went to a bulk food store and picked out a few treats and I had some yesterday and will probably eat the rest today. That will satisify my need for halloween candy and will keep me from going out and buying candy once it is one sale tomorrow. I am proud of myself. I have sweaters that I couldn’t button up a few months ago and now not only can I button them but there is room to spare. The pounds and inches are slowly coming off. I lost weight before, it went much faster than this but it was not in a healthy way. It may be slow and steady but I am not depriving myself, not hating myself for going off plan because I have learnt that if I don’t allow myself to go off plan once in a while I will NEVER lose this weight.

Down one pound this week. I’m cutting out corn to see if I have an intolerance. It’s amazing to see how much corn, and derivitives of corn, is added to everything. It means cutting out most processed foods. Hopefully I’ll feel better.

It’s so true. Finding all the hidden corn is tricky. Good luck. Finding out what intolerances you have was key to easier weight maintenance. Worth it so you can eat what is right for you.

I’ve been really doing well with my food choices and tracking them (w/honesty). It’s been paying off. You have inspired me to try ‘less processed’ and I believe that is helping as well. Like you, I could never go totally ‘unprocessed’ and be satisfied. Trying to stay away from refined sugar as much as I can. I still allow myself some so I don’t feel deprived. Everything in moderation!

Ugh. Having a hard time not letting the scale get me down. There’s a few reasons why it would be up, and I know that logically, but I’m working on letting the number just be a number. My week went ok. I tracked everything, which is progess, even though I went over my points. I had a little binge on Halloween candy and two cupcakes at my daughter’s birthday party. This week I’m shooting for less process (thanks for the inspiration!), making it to the gym three times, (went twice last week), and cutting down my “nighttime” snacking. (I put “nighttime” in quotes because I work nights, so on those days, obviously I need to eat at night!). I tried a new class yesterday that left every muscle in my body sore! Here’s to a better week this week.

Down 1.2 Pounds. I’ve been mostly maintaining for a while but this week I decided it’s time to get going on those last 5. Unfortunately, that also means that some of the 1.2 is just water/food weight since I have been on maintenance for a while. Oh, well, it’s progress. :)

Well I am thrilled to see 2 pounds down in less then a week. With my mother in-law gone I stuck to my normal clean, whole food and not very shocking I lost weight. I also stopped eating sugar again and I felt so good. Not bloated, not gassy, flatter stomach, no cravings, no energy slumps in the afternoon. Tonight I had a few of my kids sweets as a little treat and I feel awful. It was a good lesson. When you don’t eat the bad stuff your body really reacts to it when you do, and that moment of pleasure is gone and so not worth it. Anyhoo, I am back on track, ready to kick this last 11 pounds then reassess goals. Happy everyone is staying on track regardless of the scale.

I am new to your blog and have been looking for a community to help me with this journey. Since middle age I have steadily gained/lost/gained weight. But now it is crucial that I control my weight, because I have breast cancer. And instead of losing weight, I am gaining. Currently I am receiving radiation therapy, but that shouldn’t be the cause of the weight gain. So, I’d like to join all of you.

I am late – I had planned to check in from Brussels, but I ended up being too busy and forgot. Then I was travelling. I am happy to say I hardly gained any weight on an 11 day trip that included a lot of sozializing and eating. I took some dvd´s with me and did get in some exercise some days. The days I couldn´t, I did what I could – walked during lunch break etc. It was a lovely time but I am very glad to be back home!!

I don’t understand why you are trying to lose weight when your BMI is well within a healthy range. What number is it that drives you and is that really healthy? Is that how you want to live, focused on a scale and a number? You seem like a smart woman who loves living her life. I suspect you would have lots of space to live that life without fixating on weight issues…Just my twenty cents :)

I’m not really preoccupied with losing any more weight. I use my experience and feelings about weight loss to help others trying to lose. Weighing in weekly is a simple way I keep myself accountable, maintain my loss, and help inspire others.
