A Sensational Less Processed Sunday – Day 4

18 Comments 1897 views

Is Sunday not the BEST day for television? I just got done watching The Walking Dead after Once Upon a Time and now I’m catching up on Revenge. Then I have to watch The Mentalist and 666 Park Avenue sometimes later this week.

Yes, I’m a little bit of a TV whore. I admit it. :)

My Sunday started with a run that was hard to start but, as always, totally worth it. I thought I’d be all cute and record a fun video to challenge you to hit the trails this fall but the battery died right in the middle! here’s what I ended up with…

Oh well, it was still fun and my challenge still stands. Find a trail this week give it a try. No one says you have to run it. I took a stroll yesterday with the boys and it was gorgeous!

Check out Trails.com to find one near you!

OK, on to my less Processed day. I can’t believe I’m 4 days in!

Breakfast was scrambled eggs with a little bit of kale and a slice of bacon.

I made a big batch of scrambled eggs for the family and decided they needed to deal with the kale. The Husband immediately asked with "the green stuff was" and I just said I added some herbs since I had them from the farm. No further argument and ALL 3 boys ate with minimal complaint.

It’s the little things.

A little bit after breakfast I split another apple with Little Bean since he’s learning to appreciate them.

Notice the horseplay in the background. The 70lb 7 year old decided he wanted a piggy back ride.

Before heading out with family for the day I made some snacks and enjoyed a handful of sunflower seeds.

We were headed to a kids birthday party which served pizza and a cookie cake. Both of which were very easy to pass on for some strange reason. Cleaner diet? Momentum? Motivation? Who knows. I stuck to this..

and this…

I mean, I kind of wanted a slice (it IS pizza afterall,) but it just didn’t seem worth it. Not in the middle of this week anyway.

When I got home I was a little hungry, so I made a batch of butternut squash fries.

Honestly, I didn’t know what else to eat that wasn’t "processed," and I think that’s the beauty of a challenge like this, you have to start thinking outside the box.

Dinner was a small steak (that would have been fabulous on the grill — bastards!) broccoli and corn on the cob.

Once the kids went to bed I enjoyed my Banana Soft Serve out of the Yonanas machine

It may look like a pile of poop because I added some dark cocoa powder, but man is it yummy!

I’m ending the day totally satisfied. Not hungry, not stuffed and ready to tackle tomorrow.

It was truly a Sensational Sunday. :)

That looks like a beautiful trail to run. However, it also seems very isolated. Stay safe!! I love your running videos. Make more! :-)

I’ve definitely become a trail running convert. They’re so much nicer than pounding pavement. Harder, but much more rewarding. What park is that? I’m always interested in finding new places to run around the Baltimore area. A good one close to me is Soldiers Delight, Near Owings Mills.

It’s just off honeygo park. They have a few trails there.

That trail looks scary! Maybe I watch too much TV, but I wouldn’t go to a place like that alone.

Guess it’s all perspective. A nice sunny morning the trail is beautiful to me and not that far from civilization, at least in my area.

I forgot to ask – how did you get the cocoa in the Yonanas machine? Or did you stir it in afterwards?

Great Sunday! I tried your Kale and ground turkey recipe. It was yummy but I over did it on the spices so it is HOT but still very yummy. Will definitely add it to eggs this week.

I know I have never posted and I personally just wanted to get a trail set up to run in to prepare for off road races, but I am hesitating right now, because if you live in an area where hunting is allowed, small game did start, so sport some hunter safety orange. There is hunting now I think well in to winter, so just be careful.

Roni – I love scrambled eggs – when someone else makes them :-) When I make them at home, they never taste as good. Any hints? Do you do straight up eggs scrambled in the bowl or add some milk?

I make them in a little bit of oil, it’s better than spray in my opinion. I also cook them on low and I don’t mix them in the pan until they are lightly set first. Hope this helps!

I use a bit of pam, just eggs that I scrambled in a bowl alone. I set the temp to medium and like Tina, I don’t start to mix until they are lightly set. It took me a few years before I got them right. Hope that helps!

Hi Roni, I love that you challenge yourself. I would be scared to go into a trail honestly, I want to work on getting over fears like that. Any tips on how to start getting over fears?

Baby steps. Have your phone with you, make sure your family knows where you are and just try it for about a 1/2 mile until you get more comfortable OR bring a friend! :) Just some thoughts.

Hi Roni, I am really into the raw Kale salads (which the idea came from your blog a while ago) and I am hooked on this one: Raw kale and spinach mixed with quionoa, edamame, pumpkin seeds, dried cherries and a homemade dressing made of Hummus, greek yogurt, red wine vinegar and sweet chili sauce. It is so yummy i have been having it every day for lunch :) Also my girls and I cannot wait for Sunday every week to watch the walking dead!!

I love bush walking!! At least that’s what we call it here in Australia. If I can do it here with all those deadly animals, then you can all conquer your fears too! That said, I always tell others where we are going, and my fiance always comes with me. Also, we check on the wildwalks.com.au website for the bush fire warning for the area we are walking in, as it’s now bush fire season here!
Just yesterday we went for a walk to a beautiful waterfall in our area. Glorious!
