Up 1 lbs after a mini-vacation weekend where I ate donuts, candy apples and most of my meals on the go? I’ll take it!

Don’t think I haven’t noticed the Wednesday Weigh Numbers dropping steadily. Here’s how the total comments look over these past 5 weeks…

Now I know some of you have decided that weighing in and scale watching is not for you and I applaud it. This form of accountability isn’t for everyone but I really hope you found what is working for you.

I’m literally in the middle of the busiest week of the year for me —the conference starts tomorrow and coming off a weekend cross country trip— and I DECIDED I was going to weigh in with you no matter what.

This is my commitment to myself. In my experience the only way you fail at weigh loss (or anything, really) is by walking away and I refuse to do it.

The Anti-Jared posted this to his wall yesterday…

“I know it can be frustrating when you lose weight real slow.

Nothing is more frustrating than when you are gaining weight real fast though.”

I shared it on Facebook and I’m sharing it here. As someone who used to only live in one of 2 states (gaining/losing) that quote pretty much sums it for me.

I can now say with confidence I will never be in a “gaining” state again. Sure, I’ll go up a few pounds after vacation or a stressful week but that’s no where near the massive weight I used to put on after one of my post diet binges.

It all comes down to accountability for me. This weigh in (this blog) is one way I keep my commitment present in my life.

I could totally talk about this all day but I gotsta go! I’m off to pick up FitBloggin’ signs, then I’m renting a van to transport swag bags, my inbox is a steady stream of questions oh! and I’m eating breakfast with this little one…

His big brother just got on the bus. :)

I hope you’ll continue to weigh in with me weekly and remember “weighing in” doesn’t have to actually be a scale reading. Just leave a comment and tell us about your week. I promise after all this conference hoopla is over I’m going to upgrading my comments for more threaded discussion. I don’t think you realize how many others benefit from your sharing. This isn’t about me. It’s about us. Reaching our goals together.

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I had a great week and was down 3 pounds, down a total of 46 pounds. I’ve been on a plateau for about a month so I was glad to see the scale finally move

Great post, Roni! I admit I stopped weighing a couple weeks ago. I have some health issues going on, and I suspect they could be the reason I hadn’t been losing despite recommitting myself a couple months ago. I was feeling really terrible about myself-like a total failure–and the unsatisfying numbers were ruining my day. I decided I needed a break from the scale until I see the doctor next week. But I’m not letting that be an excuse for an eating free-for-all!

Lost 1.5kgs this week!!! Woohoo!!! I have not been totally sticking to the plan, but I have been watching my portions. Exercise was non-existent this week as well. Every kg lost is a huge victory though!
    Goals for this week:
    * keep watching the portion size
    * exercise 5 times (wednesday, thursday, friday, monday, tuesday)
    * cut down on the sugar

Stuck at 138.8 same as last week up .6 from the previous. These last 5-7 lbs WILL NOT come off! I won’t give up though. Roni, I feel the same as you. I refuse to gain. I may go up a few pounds but I refuse to stop doing what I am doing over one… or 2 pieces of cake. LOL. yes I did have 2 pieces on Sunday. Oh well.

I didn’t lose any weight on the scale this week but that doesn’t reflect my work. I have been super consistant with my food and I upped my exercise level big time and that’s what’s keeping the weight up right now. I can literally feel the lactic acid in my muscles – and I know my body. At some time it will give me a rough week or two without weightloss when I exercise. Sooooo I was bright enough to measure myself! Hah!! It was a month ago and in this month I have lost 3.5 inches off my waist and 2.5 inches off my hips. PLUS I feel so much stronger and better and I look it, too. My skin has a healthy glow, my eyes sparkle and actually, people who haven’t seen me for a while do a double take and say “you’re looking so healthy and good”! I found my mojo. I enjoy challenging my body again! No small feat. after a serious injury, rough surgery and looooong recovery. My health is the main issue here. As long as I keep working as hard as I am, I will see progress on all levels. The scales are just one of those. So F*** you, scales!! I am more than just that number!

my cw is up two pounds from last week. and i know why it went up: i have a back strain so haven’t been exercising really for nearly a week (just walking a bit to loosen things up). and i gave myself last night to do something i haven’t done in a while: read a good book for more than an hour in one sitting – and during that hour i also ate – pretty healthy food, but also about 500 calories more than i usually do per day. and i know i eat better when i don’t combine eating with reading or tv watching or any other activity. :l

my back is starting to feel better and i will soon be back (ha ha) to jogging and zumba-ing. and i am doing better with the calorie counting. i know that calories aren’t the only thing to watch, but it gives me another guide along the path. :)

best wishes, roni, for the conference and i hope everyone has a good and healthy week!

So I stayed the same and I really need to get serious about the whole thing! I did spinning and boot camp classes last week and I think that I can have little treats here and there because of that (exercise) and I can’t…the weight stays the same. I need to give myself one or two treats a week not a whole bunch because I did a boot camp class.
Doing Warrior Dash this weekend and looking forward to a great day with some cool chicks! Good luck weigh in buddies :)

Absolutely loved this post Roni, thanks for keeping us motivated. Anyways, I’m up a pound from last week–had a really really really bad eating weekend so I expected it to be much worse. Back on track this week, not sure about the upcoming weekend since we’re traveling to a football game Saturday and my birthday is Sunday, but we’ll see. Chin up, moving onward :)

I lost 4.4 pounds this week. It was undeserved. I snacked on frosting and graham crackers and cookies and chips and salsa and only got 18 activity points. There will be times that I will gain undeservedly, so I’ll take it when I can get it. My goal is to not go back up. Now that I have 199 back in my sights I have focus this week.

FINALLY seeing weight loss that reflects my hard work…this is week 4 of WW and the first few weeks (when it should come off quicker) it was .5# at best, so I finally got the ‘drop’. I think it’s in part to the increased exercise, perhaps I’m gaining muscle. Also psyched there was a good loss because it was my birthday week- indulged a little more, though I think I pretty much stayed on program…and I ran a 5K Mud Run- such fun!! Happy 39th to me…goal is to have my best body (most fit, toned) by my 40th….51 weeks to go!! :)

Try and enjoy yourself at the conference!!!!

Your right, just because I know that weighing in is a bad thing for me doesn’t mean I can’t comment about how my week has gone. To be honest, it wasn’t one of my better weeks. I went out for an anniversary, I was busy, there was a bday party including pizza buffet, it just wasn’t what I really wanted, but everyday I woke up and tried to start again and not worry about the day before and for me, that is progress.

I’ve been lowering my carbs and trying to get more protien so I’ve been seeing regular weight loss. I needed to get off of the junk food so I thought the South Beach diet would help and it really has. I am now looking to making those concepts part of a lifestyle change.

On Saturday I weighed 166.6 and was ecstatic!! Had a spa party at the house and drank some wine which I then ‘had’ to finish on Monday, right?! I am improving more and more on my jalking…that’s a jog walk combination. :) I leave tomorrow for a 10 day vacation in Europe and hoping all the walking we will do will help keep the weight in check so I can enjoy the vacation as well.

I am not one for attention. I don’t seek it, I don’t need it, I don’t want it…BUT when others begin to comment on the weight loss and how great I am looking it really REALLY boosts my confidence. It is such a nice feeling to know that my hard work is noticed by others. My husband has been so complimentary lately and normally I would just smile and say thank-you but now I really take it to heart because he doesn’t just say ‘you’re looking good. I can tell you’re losing weight’, he compliments me on my hard work. When we go running together he tells me ‘good job’ ‘proud of you’…he knows it was once a struggle but honestly I am beginning to get addicted to our runs. I’m in such a great place and I want nothing more than to see my goal weight!!!

No loss this week, but I’ll take it. I’m excited to be out of the “gaining weight real fast” mode. I made good decisions so far today, even though I’m wrecked from kid-induced lack of sleep. The Dalai Lama said this morning, “I believe the ultimate source of blessings is within us. A good motivation and honesty bring self-confidence, which attracts the trust and respect of others. Therefore the real source of blessings is in our own mind.” I’m trying to motivate myself in many ways right now.

I am really just now after 5 weeks of weighing in understanding that I can not over eat on the weekends and have a good weigh in on Wednesday. It is a good challenge for me, I do not know why I eat more on the weekends. Everyone is home together, I stress eat. Everyone is going back to work/school, I stress eat. This week I stayed on my calorie plan through the weekend. I have to say Wednesday weigh in is a great day to weigh in for me, because I have to do my best when it is hardest for me. And looked, I survived with out snacking at night watching something on TV.

Stayed the same this week but have been consistent with my exercise program and have been more aware of what I am eating, although I have taken to many “Bites” that somehow in my mind I still don’t think I have to count them. I will try to remember that whatever I put in my mouth does have value both positive and negative. Love the I am not gaining just changing a little every week. Looked back at my journaling and I have stayed in the same 3 Lb up down for over a year so I sm hsppy with that but still want to reach my goal. I know I will!

In a bit of a funk, so have not been eating very correctly… or is it the other way around? I had the revelation that I put energy into delicious + nutritious cooking/eating only when I’m trying to lose. That’s crazy, I should be doing that all the time! Just subscribed to WW mag – hoping the recipes will inspire me to start cooking again.

Up 1.5 and I am totally ok with this. BIG changes the past few days for me. Huge. I went off coffee and espresso three days ago, replaced it with tea so I can sleep, it was also giving me fluid filled ovarian cysts. Very painful. Using MFP (♥ this free program!!) to log food daily, using the food scale, wearing my pedometer, and watching sugar/sodium/calories. Need to motivate myself to get moving though. Thank you for reminding us and beating into our heads the importance of accountability. I have missed the last three or so weigh-ins (for shame!). I am out of the house for the day now, but I pledge to weigh-in tomorrow and next week. I have an interview this afternoon for a full-time job (was laid off a year ago and am only working part-time now) and have lots of nervous energy. When I tried on my interview outfit last night, the skirt was soooooo tight! I have to belt my shirt over it, rather than tuck it in and look like a stuffed sausage. Since I have had this skirt for a number of years, I know that my weight is around 130 for the skirt to be so snug, but still just barely zip. Regardless of the numbers, I want that skirt to be comfortable again! Thanks!

I am up 2 lbs, did not work out all all the past week, my little guy had been sick and my body needed some extra sleep from the nights I was up & down with him. Back to running this morning, and I feel great!

Thanks for your post, Roni. I was feeling pretty frustrated with my weigh in this morning, after having what I thought was a pretty good week. But you know what? I am still paying attention, being accountable and moving forward. I’m committed to staying in a “losing” state of mind and not a “gaining” one. So even though I am still up .4 for the four weeks I’ve weighed in with you, I have a renewed commitment to being honest and continuing to move forward.

Onto FitBloggin’ tomorrow! I’m so excited I can hardly stand it!

Up .5 this week. I have been eating mindfully, but workouts have been hard to get in. I will admit some of the lack of workouts is totally an excuse on my part and I am working on finding something new to motivate me and break this 150lb barrier without feeling deprived or overwhelmed.

I didn’t weigh in for 2 weeks, just didn’t fit into my schedule, but I have been relatively good. Actually, I am surprised I am not dropping more weight because I have been running a lot (40+ miles/ week) in preparation for a half marathon.

One non-scale victory for me is that last week, I wore pants that were 10 years old — pre kids. They were very comfortable, maybe even more comfortable than when I bought them.

Originally, I thought I wanted to see what 135 looks like, but as I am dropping weight, I am getting more content, and 140 may be fine.

A loss! Let’s see how long it sticks. I do so well counting my calories and then the nights that I work I do okay…it’s the morning when I get home that goes to crap. I get home and I know I’m just overly tired but I feel starved…so I end up eating whatever sounds good. Need to stop!

I only do a monthly weigh in so no numbers from me. I have done awesome the past 2 weeks tracking my calories on spark people and wearing my bodybugg. I try to stay at a 700 calorie deficit a day (I’ll lose 1 lb every 5 days this way). I’m learning a little slip up throughout the day wont stall my progress in the long run.

I couldn’t make it to WW, but I still weighed in and I’m reporting here to stay accountable. I’m a little perplexed by the gain on the scale this morning, but it’s not getting me down. I track everything I put in my mouth on WW etools. I am also training for the Philly Marathon so I’m not expecting to lose quickly especially now that I’m in the midst of my highest mileage. I also worked all night so it was sort of like weighing myself in the afternoon if that makes any sense. I am in this for the long haul. I will reach goal this time. Slow and steady…

I am a daily weigher and have always lived in the zone of either gaining or losing weight. I am now trying to maintain (5’4″, 115 lbs)and it is very weird to not see the scale go down when I’m doing all of the “right” things. In my head, I know it don’t need to lose more weight but I’m trying to adjust to a maintaining mode. In the past, I’ve always self sabbotaged because of daily weighing while maintaining so I’m considering going to the weekly weigh in. I’m scared to do it but your blog is helping me find some courage! In my head, I know that the scale doesn’t CAUSE weight gain or loss . . . it is just tool to reflect my healthy efforts so as long as I continue to eat healthily and exercise, I shouldn’t need the daily weigh in, right?

I am joining in for the first time. I just started getting serious this past week about losing these last lbs I put on with my pregnancy. My highest weight was with my pregnancy, but that was because I was pregnant! So I’m going with my highest weight as what I was when I first did WW in 2006 and lost 40 lbs. So here it goes:

    HW:183.2

CW: 167.6 (Down 2.4 from last week)
    GW: 145

H: 5′ 7”

My ultimate goal right now is to be fit and 145 by my 30th birthday (February). However, if fit on me is more like 150-155, I’ll be happy with that. I am just sick of my muffin top! I was contemplating going back to WW, but after doing it and losing before, I know what it takes to do it again. The accountability is where I struggle. So, thank you for this post! I have been following your blog since I came across it back in 2006 when I did WW. You’ve always been a motivation for me!

I applaud everyone for their courage and commitment to the journey. After a small lost last week better numbers. This week lost 2.2 lbs. I need to make sure I eat enough and I agree with comment earlier regarding the scale.. it is just a tool we need to also look at how we feel, accomplishments we have made, reducing in measurements. EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!!

Today I hit my first goal body fat % of 24% so being up slightly in weight isn’t bugging me too much. She said I lost almost 7 pounds of fat in the last 8 weeks and gained about 1.5 pounds of muscle so I’m headed in that right direction. I am not weighing in this week, in fact I am going to be stepping away from the scales for a month or so.
I had a different kind of weigh in though.
Today I went to the doctor and got a referral to speak to a psychologist. I have suffered from depression in silence for god knows how long, and I now realise that it’s not normal to feel the way I feel 90% of my time.
So I am calling it a non scale victory that will help me with my weight loss.

I have felt lighter, but it has been almost 2 weeks since I worked out and that made me worried. I will not use it as an excuse to continue not working out. I can feel the definition in my bicep and triceps muscles and I love just feeling them. Ah its the little things in life right?

I have been on vacation from being careful with my food intake for about 3 months. I’m a teacher and i am now getting in the groove. The bad news is that this is not an ideal way for me to live my life, losing accountability for a long period of time is not too healthy. On the other hand. I must of done something correctly because I only gained 5 pounds over this period, and I have soooo overindulged it’s crazy, but i guess i healthier and my behavior is healthier because in past summers when i’ve traveled i’ve gained easily 12-15 pounds…which again i know this is not the way to live my life.

I am always improving and working on myself and this being a Jewish new year I am working on improving my behavior hour to hour.

Down a pound this week! That brings my weight back into the 120’s where it belongs. I’m so excited, I never thought I’d see that number again! I finally
found what works for me. Unfortunately, I can’t eat very much to maintain this weight, but it’s all worth it. Hopefully I’ll get back to exercising on a regular basis soon (I’m quitting my full-time job next week) and that will give me some wiggle room.

I was up. I’m having a good week with exercising, but I’m eating too much during the day out of boredom. I reacquainted myself with MyFitnessPal to start tracking my food. My goal this week was to get to bootcamp 5 days, so far I’ve been 4/5. I’ll go tomorrow and reach my goal.

I’m on my own again and will be having most my meals at home for the next little while. That should help.

Good morning. Very good article this morning. I had an operation on Monday. I am up 3.6 pounds. This is related to my operation. I am eating good food and I am sleeping most of the time. I am happy to report that I am doing pretty good even if I am alone in my house with tempting food.

Woo to the hoo! Hello 130’s! I have to say I literally busted my booty at the gym and it felt great!

It was really hard for me to post the last few weeks since my scale was moving in the opposite direction. I almost didn’t post last week and was really nervous about the weigh in for the this week. I think having a forum that creates accountability- sometimes with others but mostly with yourself- is what counts!

didn’t get on the scale this morning, will remember tomorrow. however I feel that I have had a good week – workouts have been good. Running, some circuit training and eliptical as well as walking during breaks at work.
I feel that the weight should be coming off a little faster but it is slow or plateauing and I don’t know why. I am doing My fitness pal as well to watch the calorie intake too and think that is going ok so not sure what the issues are. However I feel good and am healthy!

I’m up; I don’t know how much because I can’t remember where I was last week… I haven’t really been watching what I eat. I am eating breakfast every morning but I’ve been tired and sleeping later so I’m relying on convenience foods – frozen egg and cheese omelets for example. They’re under 250 calories and hold me until late in the morning when I have a piece of fruit. But… they’re high is sodium. we had asian yesterday which is also high in sodium. I’m not drinking enough water; coffee has been a constant companion lately. I need some more water and less sodium. I also need to move more. It is such a vicious cycle. I’m tired so I drink coffee and I can’t sleep so I’m tired and need more coffee to function. I have so many things going on in my life… I need to figure out how to add exercise. I work all day, come home, cook dinner, help the kids with homework, and then do my own homework. I’m exhausted. I’m stressed. I’m overwhelmed. I know adding 30 minutes of movement a day would help exponentially. I lost all of my fitness gains from last year. I swore I would never get to this place again. Yet, here I am. I’ve gained back all that I lost last year. I am still at a net loss (20 lbs) but I was down 34 lbs. I need more balance.

    Hi Roni,

Ok, i’m going to try to really stick with this. I do think it’s helping me. I’ve missed 2 weeks, but once I was out of town & last week was just SO CRAZY BUSY @ work. So, i’m making the time on my lunch “half hour” to post. :)

Only down 1 lb since we started on 8/16, but as Roni says “I’ll take it”!! :) I’ve had a vacation since then & some really stressful times @ work. I’ll be running a trail marathon on 9/29/12 & then really start to “get busy”. I’m not sure it’s a good idea to drastically cut calories or my usual way of eating right before a marathon, but i’m not using it as an excuse to binge, just to maintain.

I’m at the very beginning of this process in some ways. I personally am finally in a place where I have what I need to deal with this. It’s nice to see a year of therapy did a lot of good. I’m trying to think of this as dealing with my food urges and thus dealing with my life so I have less food urges. I’m not big on keeping track of numbers too much, but I definately understand the importance of checking in with yourself. Even if that’s just a few moments of quiet to asses how you’re doing. Thanks for your postings. I find them very inspiring. I also am going to be posting my progress for the world to see, but I’ve a long ways to go.

Great job on your blog. I like the fact that you are motivating people to reach thier health goals . Reflecting on some of the posts. I am curious to everyones thoughts on health at Every Size, meaning that studies today are showing that people of all sizes can have a long and healthy life as long as they are taking part in some fitness activities. The reason i ask is that i see most of the post reflect what we call the pendulum of dieting, going from one extreme to another (food police at one end and binge eating at the other) which leads to yo yo dieting. Further, today we are seeing that most if not all diets fail due to our bodys physiological makeup that tells our body what weight it should be. And also do to restrictions that we place on ourselves, because as americans its one thing we battle with everyday. For this reason we are seeing a new outlook on what being healthy really is. going away from the stigma that you must lose wieght to fit in and instead stating the fact that being fit is more important than the weight loss when it comes to overall longevity of life.
    1) thoughts on health at every size, medias portrayal on what healthy is, and thought on human genetics play on losing weight.

would greatly appeciate comments, thank you

You’ve very inspiring, and so are the posts here. I have an online coach and I check in to her every Monday. Reading all these check ins helps me understand how NOT UNIQUE I am, and that she has probably heard every excuse in the book, and she doesn’t want to hear the story, just whether people are doing what they are supposed to do. No long explanations. Just, are you doing the program or not?

Well, for the past two days, I’ve done her food program, and I’m so proud of myself.

That said, I need to exercise and I should just plan that for myself for tomorrow.

This blog is the inspiration for me to finally get back on the scales. I went from 152-ish to 129ish last September-February, but a stressful summer and a growing sweet tooth put about 8 of those lbs back on. Today was my first day on the scale and it’s after an indulgent weekend and after breakfast (I find I drop 2-3lbs after the weekend usually by Tuesday so I decided to take the leap now to see the damage.)

My normal weight around Febrary was about 131 so it’s not horrible, but it is very frustrating to see. Of course, I know the cupcakes and overindulgent weekends are to blame. However, I am wondering how much of this is muscle related. I work out 6 days a week, run 3-4 with a longer (6-9 mile) run one day and Zumba/weight lift/elliptical the other days. I suppose a tape measure would be a good investment.

    GOALS:
Weigh-in with you lovely people on Wednesdays
Keep my calorie deficit (i.e. not have to eat back all of the calories that I burn)
    Underestimate exercise calories
LOG EVERYTHING (sometimes, I cheat by underestimating portion size. Fail.)

Thanks all and onward! Goal is by Halloween to be back around 132-133.

I just recently found your blog and really like it. I feel like I can relate to so much! It feels good and motivates me! Growing up I always struggled with being alittle chubby in my teens and did tons of diets. After college, living on my own I started taking better care of myself and for years maintained a weight of 115 lb…then I had children. Since my second child’s birth 2 1/2 yrs ago I have not been able to clean up my eatting habits. I am now working towards healthier eatting habits and lifestyle choices. I really enjoy exercising, unfortunately I sabotage my results with my eatting habits. I always start off string but find it hard to stay motivated. I am hoping this support will help me. So here are my numbers…
