One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Hill Running at the Lake

Happy Labor Day! I’m writing from my In-Laws cabin on Lake Wallenpaupack. We drove up Friday night and have been “roughing it” with no internet connection ever since. ;)

Now that I tethered my Droid I can share this quick video I recorded yesterday. Just like the beach this year, I’m discovering how fun it is to be active on vacation…

Besides that I have nothing to share except my food indiscretions. Yikes is all I’ll say. How can I say no to the brownies, smores, ice cream and chocolate twizzlers. Oh! and if you are ever in the area you have to eat at Kundla’s.

We’re heading home today and then the craziness begins. Next weekend is the Tough Mudder, then Portland, then the conference. In between we have to stuff 300 swag bags, reach out to the speakers, follow up with the volunteers and make all the final arrangements with the hotel. It’s gonna be a whirlwind!

Update: I just posted more photos of our weekend on the travel blog. Click here to check them out.

Ok given the holiday weekend I can see having some treats but chocolate twizzlers–yuck–LOL.
Also with all you have to do in the next couple of weeks your activity level will go through the roof but you will survive and thrive.

I loved your video. Love that you are active and involving your kiddos. Vacation with the fam is the best.

It’s easy to give up that junk food when what you get in return is food sobriety, physical and mental health, and quality time with your kid. I had to choose between the two and junk food lost.

Good luck, safe travels, and I’d eat that stuff if I didn’t gain weight. But I can’t- so I don’t.

Okay- I’m curious- does a chocolate twizzler taste like chocolate or licorice or both?

ok, so the twizzlers. Totally something I never buy but when around are hard to resist, chocolate or otherwise. The chocolate ones are hard to explain. I’d describe them as chocolate inspired. lol

My husband and I went to Lake Wallenpaupack a few times in the past two years for long weekends using our timeshare points. In fact, we went last Labor Day! Unfortunately, the new program we have doesn’t allow us the flexibility to get a timeshare in the area so we have to figure something else out. Absolutely LOVE it there! So peaceful. My guilty pleasure would be Callie’s Pretzel Factory but since going gluten-free, it would be a definite no-no. Glad you were able to chill for a few days before your big event. Good luck!

Roni…. so happy to hear you spent weekend at Lake Wallenpaupack! If you are ever looking for something to do with extra time- go kayaking @ Promised Land State Park. Just a few exits past where you were… Very close. My second date w my fiance was kayaking there! Great sorta relaxing/low key workout- unless it’s windy- and then tougher but either way beautiful park. :) Amazing views from water! Very peaceful compared to Wallenpaupack. Glad you had a good weekend.

p.s. You can rent kayaks @ the park for very low fee. :)

You are one tough mama! I didn’t realize Tough Mudder and Portland were before the conference! How do you do it all I’m in awe!

Nice work! Running hills is actually a great exercise to increase your strength for distance running. It’s also always good to do some hill sprints as opposed to jogging to target a different set of muscles.
