One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Guilty Food Pleasures, What’s Yours?

18 Comments 2092 views

Our last day was a bust. Cold, rainy and windy. Not how you want to end a week at the beach but we can’t complain. With 3 gorgeous days to frolic in the ocean, a golf day for Dad, 3 beautiful morning runs for Mom and lots of boardwalk strolls we lived it up at the shore.

Today I’m feeling a little bleh from all the junk I ate but I have no regrets. I’m only at the beach once a year and there’s just few things I enjoy here and only here. Jelly rings being one of them. Every year we hit the candy store and each pick one thing. I get 5 raspberry jelly rings. I didn’t think to take a photo of them but they look like this…

I remember my Mom eating them when I was little and now they are my special treat too.

I love them so much but right now? Ugh. They are sitting in my stomach like a stone.

What’s your guilty food pleasure on vacation or otherwise? Is there something you like to eat even though you don’t feel too great afterwards?

Inquiring minds and my bloated stomach need to know. ;)

Thanks for the photo!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

We just got back from a week in Colorado staying with friends. She made brownies 2 nights this week and there was ice cream on top of the brownies–it was good. One of those nights, I made my famous chocolate chip cookies, so yeah, there were quite a few indulgences! My body rebelled against me on our last night…it had enough of me treating it badly and made me sick (literally). It was not pretty. But a lesson learned! Glad you enjoyed the beach!! I am CRAVING a trip to the beach…hoping hubby and I can escape to somewhere tropical in October :)

    With ice cream.
whoa baby was it hard to put the fork down!

I don’t know how it’s called in english (called Sacher here), but it’s this rich chocolate cake, with thick layers of some chocolate-butter like filling (think Nutella, but with butter)and more chocolate in the outside. It makes your gums hurts and your heart beat in a bad way with every bite. You get sick after eating half a portion, sugar overload, you wanna puke BUT you eat the other half anyway. Then I cry myself to sleep thinking… IT WAS WORTH IT :p

I love to eat cold leftover potatoes with a little bit of salt and Belgian mayonaise (not as sweet as in the USA).

    So good.

The chef at the college I study at makes butterscotch pudding sometimes. It’s the best ever. I’ve never managed to say no to it.

My sister and her family came to visit a couple weeks ago and she always wants to have local favorites; chips and bison dip, chicken wings, subs, pizza, ice cream… we did it all…….ugh. So good, yet so bad.

I love chocolate-glazed, cream-filled donuts from Krispy Kreme. I hope this doesn’t sound pretentious, but when I eat one I make sure I don’t tell myself, “I shouldn’t eat this”. Instead I tell myself, “MMMMMM. I love this doughnut! It is delicious.” I’m not claiming that simply by saying that, I could eat them all the time and maintain my weight – because I don’t really believe that. But when I apply that practice to donuts (and my other favorite treat, ice cream), I find that I don’t feel bad afterward and my weight management isn’t thrown for a loop either.

My favorite beach treat is salt water taffy. I don’t really crave it any other time. But, when I’m on a beach vacation it’s a necessity.

When I visit my family’s hometown I always want to go to Luigi’s and get meat ravioli, which is funny because I think I only had them a few times before I moved away to college. But I essentially don’t eat pasta anymore so it is a special treat to have ravs when I’m home! Also a chocolate malt from the soda fountain I worked at in high school.

I find that I can have a few treats on vacation and as long as I don’t have a treat then my stomach is fine and I can get right back on track easily!

My guilty pleasure food is pasta! I hardly eat it anymore but when I do, I feel guilty. hehe BUT! I think I’m okay because I’m eating it in moderation. I try to stay away from sweets because I can’t have just one!

I probably have a few guilty pleasures. I don’t indulge myself that often but the one thing I have to have if I’m at the shore is fudge. My husband and I will usually get a piece and split it. I only have it once a year, but it is sooooo good!

The food that I like to eat even though I don’t feel great afterwards is ice cream and white chocolate. I know, I should feel that way! LOL.

my guilty pleasure is the kandy kake…ahhhh. cake covered in a thin layer of peanut butter and covered in chocolate. tastykake makes them. what is great about them is they are only 180 calories, which i figure is better than eating a dessert in a restaurant.

i do love an ice cold beer in a frosted mug…
