One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

I’m Under Attack!

32 Comments 2969 views

I don’t think I’ve ever been hit by allergies this hard. Ever!

My eyes are itchy. My ears are blocked. My throat is scratchy. My nose is running. I’m sneezing. I have postnasal drip.

Ugh. It’s horrible and the worst part…

The Tough Mudder is TOMORROW!

I can only pray that what I’m allergic to down here isn’t growing up in the Poconos yet.

I was planning on posting last night but honestly, I took a Benadryl and couldn’t keep my eyes opened. I even fell asleep during Awake and missed the end. :(

Side Note: LOVE this show. I just hope they don’t cancel it.

Anyway, so here I am Friday morning hopped up on Allegra and nervously preparing for the weekend. Yesterday I cleaned half the house and finished up the laundry. The Husband is away on business so it was just me and these two…

I made salmon for myself and had fun with an Indian inspired spice mix I made up. On the side, the rest of the Brussels Sprouts I roasted after making this for lunch…

Warm Brussels Sprout and Couscous Salad

It was a great day despite feeling like I was hit by a truck.

Today I’m finishing up the cleaning and packing. As soon as Little Guy gets off the bus we are heading to the Great Wolf Lodge. It’s 5 miles from the Tough Mudder so while I’m running, climbing and jumping in mud, the boys will be frolicking in the pool.

Nice. lol

OK, so I’m charging the GoPro. I’m not going to promise a video but I’m going to do my best. I’ll check in on Sunday night but I’m not sure when we’ll be home.

Wish me luck.. I’m nervous!

a natural way to help alleviate allergies is to, as you know, is to diminish the amount of histamine in your body…Benedryl makes me sleep too…my naturopath chiropractor suggested taking vitamin b-12 with folate…it worked on getting rid of my daughters hives when the steroid shot at the ER did nothing :) goodluck this weekend!!

Are you sure it’s allergies b/c that’s how my colds start:(

Good Luck, although you don’t need it because you’re so conditioned and physically prepared.

    Have fun!

Roni. You will rock tomorrow! Try using a nedipot before bed tonight and in the morning. It might help. Good luck.

    Hi Roni

As a fellow allergy sufferer, I have to recommend Advanced Allergy Therapeutic treatment. It looks like total quackery but has saved me the past three allergy seasons – no more drugs

I am attaching a link to a youtube video to show how crazy it looks –

You’re ready, girl! You’ve trained for weeks and you’ve worked your butt off. You’ve got this!

As for the allergies? Ugh. Have you tried a neti pot? The thought totally freaked me out at first, but my doctor suggested it and it really does help. My advice – follow the directions, tho. lol Buy the saline packets and mix them with warm distilled water (tap water stings as does making your own solution lol). I lived on Claritin and the neti pot last spring. Hope you feel better soon!

You are going to rock it. Have you ever been to Great Wolf before? We have been to the Wilderness ( very similar) and it is AWESOME! there are no words to describe. Have a great weekend!!

    May 11, 2012

Good luck!!! We can’t wait to hear all the details…I know you will do fabulous and I think its just awesome that you are taking this on :-} Sending well wishes your way- allergies are the worst….! Have a great great great time and enjoy the experience!

    May 11, 2012

You are SO prepared for this Mudder Roni! The weather looks like it will be perfect although maybe a little warm–those water obstacles are going to feel great!

I 2nd (3rd?) the thought of a neti pot/sinus rinse for your allergies. Then you can use it again afterwards to clean all the mud out of your nose! (Only sort of kidding–I did this when I got home from my TM!)

They will probably have bananas and some sort of gummy snacks on the course. If you happen to bring clif shot bloks be aware that they will probably get wet and muddy before you have a chance to eat them. ;-)

    May 11, 2012

Oh man, sorry about the allergies. Pollen, pollen, go away….please please pollinate some other day!!!
Like I tell my students – I don’t like to say ‘Good Luck’….Good exercise. Good work. Good times….but just pure luck you don’t need. :) Rock it – or should I say ‘Tough it!’ tomorrow!! lol

i’m a dedicated reader, infrequent commenter. but, i wanted to say congrats on the great piece in first for women! it’s great seeing strong women like yourself sharing your story and tips with others!

I have the worlds worst allergies. I take Allegra before and oddly what happens to me during a running or cycling event is they magically disappear even if before they were bad. But when the event is over OMG my eyes go nuts I start sneezing etc. I think the adrenaline kicks in during the event and somehow they aren’t a problem. So don’t fret during the event you will be able to concentrate fully on rocking through it.

    May 11, 2012

You are so brave. Good luck you can rock this!!!! Show us how strong you are!!!

    May 11, 2012

Hope you feel better Roni, and I know you’ll kick the muddler’s ass. Um…that sounded a bit bad didn’t it???
