I saw this on My Tiny Tank who saw it on All the Weigh. Don’t you just love the interwebs?

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to take you down memory lane in my life. I dug up that picture of myself specifically for this post. It’s the first picture I remember thinking (back then) that I looked fat in. I was 11 going on 12. My relationship with my body was never the same after seeing it. Funny, the things you remember and what sticks with you.

  1. My parents told me… Honestly, I don’t have any clear memories of my parents telling me anything but my Mom showed me that no matter what happens in life you work for what you want.
  2. I wanted to grow up to be a… Forensic Pathologist. I love solving mysterious and I’m not easily grossed out. Unfortunately I wasn’t very good at Chemistry.
  3. I refused to eat… Mushrooms and onion. Both of which I love now.
  4. My favorite thing to do outside was… Walk. I walked everywhere when I was a kid. Times were different then. Kids were allowed to go places alone. Imagine that!
  5. I broke my… Little Toe. I swear I did but they couldn’t do anything about it anyway.
  6. I liked to wear… Pink and then Black. I had a distinct pink stage in my preteen years followed by an I-only-wear-black-and band-t-shirt stage when I turned 14. I’ve never had a sense of style. Ever. lol
  7. My parents always… Had us eat dinner together. Well, my Mom did. I was raised in a single parent home.
  8. I thought that Santa was… Fun. I remember not believing but going along with it for my younger brother and cousins.
  9. My favorite cartoon was… Thundarr the Barbarian.

1994… HA! That’s when I graduated High School.

  10. I was the… The oldest. The responsible one. The "good girl."
  11. I got in trouble when… for some stupid reason I shoplifted. I’m still unsure why I did it to this day. I think I was 12. Never did anything that stupid again. –Yes I realize this does not jive with the above. lol
  12. My bedroom was… rearranged every month. I’d lock myself in my room and just move furniture around. I like to change things up. Still do.
  13. My favorite food was… PIZZA. I mean. Really.
  14. My parents always made me… Do my chores before going out with friends. I remember I had to clean the bathroom and mop the kitchen floor before I could go out on the weekends.
  15. My first crush was… On a boy named Joe in high school. Never thought he knew who I was until college and we are now friends on Facebook.
  16. My favorite toy was… This little hand held tennis video game I had in the 80s. I’m pretty sure it was this one.
  17. I thought school was… What it was. It’s hard to explain but I never hated it. I never loved it. It’s just what you did. You went to school.
  18. My biggest fear was… Hmpf I can’t remember. Nothing is coming to mind. I was really scared of the y2k problem but that wasn’t really when I was a kid.
  19. My favorite story was… I’m not sure it would be considered a story but I had an odd fascination with Archie Comic books back then.
  20. My favorite memories… I have a few. I remember one Christmas when my parents where still married (I think I was 8) I was up alone with Mom and she had a special present just for me. It’s was a craft set. I also have fond memories of our family Christmas Eve party every year. I miss those. Then there were the days my Dad would take us out on my Grandfather’s clam boat. We’d come home and cook what we caught and he’d play his guitar. All these make me smile. :)

You’re turn! Take a trip down memory lane with me and share yours on your blog or in the comments. It’s fun!

Your answers cracked me up. I think my favorite is the Archie comic books. I loved those too!

And I was the same way with mushrooms and onions. Now I love them too.

Fun!! I am so doing this on my blog.

Hi Roni….how fun is this??? I’ll be posting this on my blog at some point. The thing that stands out to me that we have in common. We both are the “responsible ones” and we both shoplifted (I took a god awful blue eye shadow). I didn’t get caught, and to this day, I’ve never told my parents. (nor will I – there are some things they just don’t need to know) Have a great Thursday.

This was really fun to read. And you’re so skinny in that photo as a kid! I’ve been reading your blog for years and didn’t know you had a brother!? Story behind that? You never mention it. Maybe you two aren’t close. Sorry, that’s nosy of me!
I shoplifted one time too… pina-colada lip-smacker. Never got caught.. what a dumb thing to do, lol!!

Oh my goodness, this was so much fun! I loved the hand held tennis game! My brother and I couldn’t stop playing it! And Thundarr the Barbarian, how can we forget that? Thaks for this trip down memory lane!

  • Tammy Cole

    Loved this, Roni!

My parents told me…go to college and get a good job. If you do, you’ll never NEED a man.

I wanted to grow up to be…a secretary. Which is exactly what I am!

I refused to eat…swiss steak. Still do. Blech.

My favorite thing to do outside was…lay out in the sun. Dumb!

I broke my…ring finger on my right hand by having it go under a metal runner on our sled.

I liked to wear…my white pants with the lemons on them. Ha!

My parents always…had parties when we were growing up. They were great fun for us kids!

I thought that Santa was…the BEST for bringing me that blue satin Shaun Cassidy jacket.

My favorite cartoon was…Tom and Jerry.

I was the…older child, thus I had to set an example. College, good grades, etc. Boooooring.

I got in trouble when…I told my parents I was going to sleep over at my friend’s house and we snuck out to a party where there was alcohol. I was punished for a MONTH.

My bedroom was….light blue and spotless.

My favorite food was….and still is — chocolate

My parents always made me…pay my car insurance.

My first crush was…Sean Cox. The trumpet player.

My favorite toy was…my purple stuffed pig. I used to sleep with it every night, until my mother gave it to Bea Gaddy! Talk about nightmares!

I thought school was…heart-wrenching. Too much drama. I look back on it now and miss NOTHING.

My biggest fear was…funny. I don’t remember having any!

My favorite story was…how my mother’s grandmother used to own a monkey. She kept it in her house. His name was Jo-Jo. How crazy is it to have a pet monkey?

My favorite memories…there are many. At one of the aforementioned parties my parents had, we had a water battle which ended up with the hose in the house. In the same night, my brother went to go through a glass storm door and his arm went through the glass and we had to take him to the ER for stitches. My uncles were younger while we were growing up, so they were GREAT fun for us.

Thanks for this, Roni! It was fun playing!

Roni, this was so much fun! Glad it inspired you. Kenlie @alltheweigh regularly inspires me. She created a great way for bloggers to share and get to know each other. and have fun. Love that we both wanted to be Pathologists. I’ve never met anyone else who aspired to that too. Did you like Quincy?

  • http://ronisweigh.com roni

I did like Quincy! Always had a crush on Jack Klugman and while I’m confessing, Bill Bixby. :)

Tina – My brother and I don’t have a relationship anymore. It’s sad. Let’s just say family drama and leave it at that. :(

A few of those(10-14) have me wondering if we grew up in the same single parent household, lol!

  • http://www.anewstaci.blogspot.com Staci

I did this on my blog this afternoon after seeing yours and added lots of old pics. So fun!

  • Jenny

Ha! What a cute kid! We had the chore rule on Sat. too, I thought it was soooo cruel! A 1996 grad here, makes me feel so old but yet doesn’t really seem all that long ago.. LOVED Archie comics too.

  • Barbara

    thanks it got me thinking.
one thing I love was playing games with the family and friends from the neborhood (can’t sp today) Parents got all the kids together (our firends) and we had huhu loop contest, chewing gum contest, jumping room. It was fun. I just started back using the huhu loop to get me moving.
Also love it when my Mom would sew with us and make beautiful dresses for our barbie dolls.
    Thank you Roni
    This made my Day.

My parents told me…do as I say, not as I do. Thankfully, I listened to them!

I wanted to grow up to be…a teacher. And that’s what I did.

I refused to eat…broccoli, green beans, mushrooms, pickles, mustard, any kind of beans, red meat….wow, I was picky as a kid.

My favorite thing to do outside was…pretend I was a pioneer trying to live off the land. HA!

I broke my…clavicle when I was three; I fell of the couch.

I liked to wear…short shorts with a big t-shirt over them. It made me look like I was just wearing a big t-shirt with nothing underneath. God, I was a dork!

My parents always…were strict with me. I couldn’t have friends over, had to have good grades, and I was meant to be seen, not heard.

I thought that Santa was…shifty. Who comes in your house at night without knocking? I would try to find clues that he was real when I was growing up. Once I found a used tissue on the floor that I swear looked like a swan and I thought Santa must have left it as a clue for me! Hahaha

    My favorite cartoon was…Carebears

I was the…good girl. Little Miss Perfect, as my brother likes to call me.

I got in trouble when…two boys tried to sneak in the house once and they crumpled the flowers under my bedroom window.

My bedroom was…white with pink roses. And spotless. Plus the door was always closed to keep my little brother and sister out.

    My favorite food was…french fries

My parents always made me…get straight A’s.

My first crush was…this boy in middle school who played the saxophone. I don’t remember his name.

My favorite toy was…it wasn’t really a toy, but we had a boxcar in my backyard and I used to pretend to be one of the Boxcar children.

I thought school was…the best part of my life: it had structure, there were clear-cut expectations, and I found it easy.

My biggest fear was…being made fun of at school. I hated bullies!

My favorite story was…I loved the Boxcar Children and Nancy Drew and A Wrinkle in Time. When I was in middle and high school, I loved the Bodie Thoene books.
