Tough Mudder Training
Week 6

13 Comments 1669 views

I’m calling this week the Karate Kid workout. Derrick, my trainer friend, was all smitten with himself when I got there and asked what I needed to set up. He said, "Nothing." When I asked him what we were going to be doing he said, "You’ll see" smirked, and sent me on my run.

I knew I was in trouble.

Bear with me the drills are harder to explain this week.

  • ~1/3 mile run
  • Stack the 5lb hand weights on top of one another then do 5 pushups and 5 crunches. Repeat with each hand weight up to 75lbs until the gym looked like this…

    and this..

Then put everything back. Of course!
  • ~1/3 mile run
  • Move approximately 12 plates (45lbs each) (+some 25s and 10s–Honestly, I can’t remember) from the wrack to the machines and back. Then do 5 sets of 5 pushups and 5 crunches each.
  • ~1/3 mile run
  • Bear crawl up the hill, run backwards up the hill, then bear crawl backwards up the hill (half way was all I can make it) – Repeat 3 times.
  • ~1/3 mile run
  • The Wheel! AKA this…

You probably can’t hear in the video but he wanted me to pull the sand bag back with me kind of like last week but I just could not do it. It was too heavy. Going up and back was workout enough!

  • ~1/3 mile run

That was it! sounds shorter then the other workouts but the drills were much longer. He said he wanted us to be prepared in case some of the obstacles were more time consuming.

I love these style workouts. So much more fun then just going to the gym and using a few machines in my opinion.

I’ve updated my training table. The event feels right around the corner. Time is just flying by.

In other news…

Heading to bed. Tomorrow is an early workout day!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

I LOVE hearing about the Tough Mudder workouts!! Thank you for the time and effort they are costing you.

You have inspired me to organize a “play” date at our neighborhood park. I haven’t worked it all out in my mind yet, but I will include bear crawls going backward – that hadn’t occurred to me. There’s a nice loop I can have people run, we will jump rope. Then I’m thinking of buying a 40lb bag of rock salt and having people carry it around. I’m hoping people will be game – as you know not everyone considers this “fun”. They’re missing out!

Keep up your great work, you look like you’re in great shape.

Oh Roni…I just had my event this weekend. It was a shorter version (not the Tough Mudder but the Mudder Dash — a 5k with obstacles…though not as intense…) And it was so.much.fun. I panicked and I worried and some things were tough (the Wall for me and swinging on a rope…go figure)…and I ate it a couple of times, but I was such a good time. I have a re-cap on my site. (by the way, it was my first ever 5k and my first ever obstacle thing…LOL).

I worked out very similar to these syle workouts to prepare and I think its absolutely the right way to prepare because there is running in between all these obstacles. You are going to totally rock it. :)

(by the way, for the clothes, I would say dri-fit stuff…but other than that – it doesn’t matter.)

I’m going with a friend (Carrie from last weeks training update) and her husband who’s done a few already. So I won’t be alone! :)

Are you running on Saturday or Sunday? I just got my start time for next Sunday and it was 2 hours earlier than I had requested during registration, which totally messes with my whole planned schedule! Just wanted to give you a heads up that something like that could happen! ;)
