GoPro-ing in the Sole of the City

Happy mid-weekend guys! I normally don’t blog on Saturdays but I had to pop in and share my new toy…

After killing my phone during last years Zombie run and with the Tough Mudder fast approaching, I thought it was time to equip myself properly. My goal is to capture, archive, and most importantly, share my experience in events. I want you to see what I see.

After much research I decided the best way to do that is with the GoPro camera.

From the manufacturer..

GoPro cameras are used by more professional athletes, sports filmmakers and core enthusiasts than any other camera in the world. The HD HERO2: Outdoor Edition is the most advanced GoPro camera yet. Wearable and gear mountable, waterproof to 197′ (60m), capable of capturing professional full 170º wide angle 1080p video and 11 megapixel photos at a rate of 10 photos per second, the HD HERO2 is the world’s most versatile camera. Whether your goal is to capture a great day out with friends or you’re gunning for the cover of a magazine, the HD HERO2: Outdoor Edition can help you nail it and look like a HERO.

I’m psyched! How much fun is this thing gonna be?!

It takes stills…

That’s me, sitting on my stoop, eating a banana, waiting for my ride to the event.

I left the setting on wide angle. I kind of like the fish eye effect.

But it also takes high quality video…

Now, I held the camera so please accept my apologies for the shakiness, especially at the end. I was booking it! :)

I have a head mount that came with the camera and I’m considering a chest one, but honestly, I like the control of holding it. It’s so darn small it doesn’t bother me at all. We’ll see. It’s probably going to depend on the event I’m running.

Overall it’s a fun little camera and I’m hopping to get some great footage to share on the blog. Let me know what you think of the video. That is if you can stomach the shakiness. I REALLY had fun grabbing clips and capturing my experience.

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

Roni, the video is awesome–I didn’t really notice the shaking. And I’m not going to lie, maybe it was my hormones or something, but I started crying after that part where the lady is cheering you on. It’s convicting and makes me realize I need to get out there and do something and not be afraid to try it.

Great video! I agree with Brandy, I was expecting a lot more shakiness and I really didn’t notice much at all. Thanks for taking us along!! Good luck on the upcoming Mudder!

Awesome! Can you take a pic of what it looks like when you wear the camera on your head? I picture one of those big goofy light looking things that coal-miners wear on their forehead :)

    Hi Roni, finally de-lurking ;-)
I showed your blog entry regarding the go pro camera to my partner on the weekend and on Monday, while he was away (working in Adelaide), he bought the go pro hero2 during his lunch break ;-) He said that he had already investigated the camera some months before but then forgot all about it until I showed your blog entry to him!! While I visited him in Adelaide this week, we went on a run on Wednesday and obviously had to test the camera. We ran (& filmed) for around 1 hour and the subsequent download & ‘stabilization’ of the ‘movie’ took ages! Did you experience the same?
On a different note, I would like to thank you for quite a few years now of motivation & inspiration. I enjoy reading your blog & watching your videos. Keep up the good ‘work’ ;-)

Stabilization always takes FOREVER! I actually don’t do it anymore because I didn’t notice a difference in the footage. I use iMovie though, so better software may do it better.
Hope that helps and thanks for continuing to read! :)
