Man I am chatty this month. I swear I could just talk and talk and talk! It was the questions. They were so good and, ummm, emotional. I almost lost it like 3 times. It’s pretty bad.

Topics this month include…

  • What’s my diet and how do I prefer meals.
  • Dealing with Family Members who want you to lose weight.
  • How to estimate Weight Watchers PointPlus.
  • How I make popcorn and my favorite salad dressings.
  • Are VitaMuffins a good option for lunch?
  • How did I become a runner.

You made me cry like 5 times in this podcast so I had to comment. I can’t tell you the date but I remember the exact moment I became a runner… I ran on the treadmill and when I was done, I realized my mind was empty. There was no stress, no worry; just the run. It was beautiful. I can’t meditate; I’ve tried. I get distracted in my own head. It’s like i have an internal SQUIRREL running around that I have to pay attentionn to. But running… I guess I just keep pace with the squirrel. I need to get back to the gym. I miss it. sigh. BTW, LIVE would be AMAZING!!!!!!

Love the podcasts, I always look forward to them! I recently had my aha moment when I was trying to explain my food choices to my sister, I am about 85% paleo but I was on vacation so I had some fries from my favorite burger place but instead of thinking of it as “cheating” I thought of it as a treat, something I rarely eat and that I eat simply for taste and not nutrition. This new mind set helped me get rid of the guilt which has led to way fewer binges and better mental health. Your aha moment post definitely helped me get there, so thank you!

I also wanted to comment on the running question, I recently ran my second marathon, and by ran I mean jogged at a 13-14 minute/mile pace, but I started with couch to 5k and little 30 second intervals.

Oh Roni, you’re podcasts are the best! That part about your Dad… deep stuff. While that isn’t 100% my situation (parent wise) it does speak to the side of me that has to remind myself: I’m losing this weight for ME. Not my husband, not my friends, not my sister, not my parents, no one else. They will always have something to say (You’re too fat! You’re too thin! Why don’t you eat this? bah blah blah blah blah!) so we have to know that it’s for us & only us. I hope the reader who asked the question gets some peace from possibly writing a letter to her family.

No no! Not 70 calories/point! 40 calories/point! (Which, if you think about it, makes sense because you get more points under PointsPlus.) And with PP, it’s exactly like you’re saying you liked like you’re saying, where old Points were about 50 calories each, a little less if they were really fatty, a little more if they were really fiber-y. Just w/ 40 instead! So 200 calories is usually 5 points, maybe 6 if it’s chocolate or butter, maybe 4 if it’s something high-protein and high-fiber. Easy peasy.

Thanks Roni–I take your podcasts along on runs. It is almost like you are jogging along there with me, keeping me entertained. I really appreciate that you don’t expect me to reply during these conversations. I did have a quick heretical comment about calories and WWPP. I love the program and I know the leaders get kinda up in arms when someone brings this up in a meeting–but seriously… I have tried crunching the numbers all sorts of ways and it boils down to about 35 to 40 cals per point. I love your high fiber/high fat point adjustment trick–great idea. But, since I swear I heard you say 70 cals per point–I just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth. Back of envelope calcs–40 cals X 26 minimum points is just over a thousand calories. Add weeklies to that for an average of 280 cals more gets you to around 1300 cals/day not counting your fruits and veggies. I think that shows why it is just as important to eat your points as it is to not over eat your points–if you eat less than that, you are going to find it hard to lose weight.

DANG, didn’t refresh my browser before I typed my heresy. Paige–so sorry that I retweeted/repeated what you said! I HATE it when people do that.

That’s cool! I went in the wrong direction. I have a feeling many will point it out for me. I’m not sure I got 70 from. Total mistake.

I should put a though bubble in the video. Yea.. I think I’ll do that. :)

Loved your podcast, this is the first one I’ve watched. You have really inspired me, I found your blog a few weeks ago and have been following you since. I actually left you a comment then and asked you what you’re secret was, which you promptly answered with your 3steps. Since I have been making changes in how much I am eating, I’m a lot like you used to be with the yo-yo diets and the “oh, i act a cookie so I’ve already ruined my diet” excuses. You are a real inspiration and I just want to say thank you for helping me to be able to have my aha moment so that I can work my way into a healthier and happier me. :) Thank you so much Roni for being such an inspiration.

      Hi,

This is the first podcast I listen to in my life! And I really enjoyed it. I am a member of WW and I will be stopping to go to meetings because I fell I get more useful information on your blog and other blogs. Specially today with your interesting podcast.

I struggle to loose the last 12 pounds that I had decided to loose to get to my dream weight. What is strange is that I am at the lowest weight I have been for a long time and I do not feel it yet. I have to say that I purchased a size 10 dress this morning and I could have cried, right there in the dressing room. I feel that I have to adjust to the new me.

Thank you again for your blog and your podcast.

      Have a good day,

      Elise

Ps: I am going for a long walk!

Starting running at 16-almsot 60 and haven’t quit yet. Just don’t replace one addiction with another…

Love your video, as always. For the first question where you talk about “menu planning” is exactly how I do it, and it really works for me. I used to really try to plan out the whole week and that just never worked well. Now I simply keep my pantry, fridge, and freezer stocked with healthy ingredients and I decide the night before what I’ll have the next day. Also, I can totally relate to getting emotional answering the questions. Sometimes I get all teary when someone just asks me how my weight loss is going. As far as WW Points, like some others have said it’s about 40 calories/point just like it used to be 50 cals/point. I have no trouble estimating points. My problem is that I burn out on tracking after about 8-10 weeks (whether I’m doing WW or MyFitnessPal or whatever else that involves tracking). I just hit a wall and it feels like a chore.

I just finished listening to your podcast and it was awesome! I know you were speaking about your life but so much of what you said spoke to me about my life. I cried so many times especially as today is the day after my first 1/2 marathon, Wow it is an amazing feeling, I used to laugh at the people who ran for fun. Why any one would run with out a reason or being chased was beyond me, but now I am one of those crazy people who runs, I don’t run fast but I am a RUNNER! THANK YOU FOR INSPIRING ME TO LIVE THE LIFE I WANT TO LIVE with out waiting till I reach my weight goal.

Ok so I have not listened to this yet. Hopefully I can get to it later today.

I do have a question though. I have the same popcorn popper that you do but have yet to figure out the perfect measurement for how many kernels to put in it so that they don’t fly all over the place. So my question is: what do you use to measure your kernels for the perfect bowl of popcorn?

      roni

      March 26, 2012

I use the lid. There is a line there (about half way.) I never had an issue with them flying out but I do dump out the popped kernels mid-way through which helps pop most of the kernels. Hope that helps!

Thanks for that podcast, I truly enjoyed listening to it. I want to comment and say that my heart goes out to Pam and I am sending good thoughts and prayers her way. Most of us have been there in some form or another and it’s just hard. :( Hang in there Pam!!!

Roni, First things first. Hair… frames… ROCKIN”! My wife loves them too.

Most of my clients are ladies and I’ve been searching the web for people that can inspire them… I mean us.
Despite all of my fitness education, I’ve struggled with weight since high school.

I believe I’ve found what I’m looking for. What I appreciate most is your honesty and your willingness to be vulnerable. It helps break down the wall we put up to protect ourselves. Consider me a follower. And as my community grows, I’ll do what I can to be sure yours grows too. I believe you have a great deal to offer.

Today, you’ve taught a teacher. Thank you.

I always listen to the podcast :) You touched on two of my favorite Roni-isms today: balanced eating and stateless dieting :)

Thanks for this! I’ve recently found your site and this podcast was a terrific hour to spend getting to know you. I even took some notes in the keys of weight loss part, what?! All three points really resonated with me today. I’m looking forward to digging a little deeper :-) Congratulations on your continued success, truly inspiring.
