What Did I DO?!

I signed up for THAT. (Click here for more info)

WHAT WAS I THINKING?!

Actually, I know what I was thinking. I need something. Something to work towards. It’s why I got into running after discovering races.

There’s just something about picking a challenging event, laying out a training schedule, executing it and then crossing a finish line.

It’s goal achieving at it’s finest. Every aspect of it is in my control. I don’t need a scale to tell me if I’m making progress because I KNOW I am every time I check off a workout on my training schedule.

Speaking of, here’s what I put together.

I don’t have any particular goals on distance. That’s part of the reason I chose this type of event over a full marathon. I know I don’t have the time to commit to super long runs and I don’t even have the desire to do them right now. Instead, my goal is to just be in good physical condition so I can handle the obstacles.

I’ll be updating this page as I go through training by literally checking off workouts and adding links to the race recaps. Note: The trail runs and Sol of the City listed above are events I’ve already registered for.

I’m excited and slightly, ok, ok… EXTREMELY nervous.

Oh Roni, this looks like sooo much fun! You are going to ace this and I’m sure it will definitely be the mother of all challenges you are seeking, not to mention a great ego boost as well. Good luck in your training, I love your devotion and dedication when you set your goals and start ticking off your achievements. Gives me so much inspiration. Are you at all worried about your recent neck/back problems? I’m sure you’ll find a safe way to complete this challenge. I’m looking forward to following your progress and rooting you on! You can do it!

Getting final approval from doc on Wednesday! But have been told by 2 doctors already that they best thing I can do for myself to is to keep moving and staying active. Just have to watch activities that put stress on my neck.

Good luck! My friend did a Tough Mudder last year and LOVED it. Personally I think you’re both nuts! ;) Can’t wait to hear how it goes.

RONI!!! I’m so excited for you! I completed the TM in NorCal last September and it was one of the best experiences. I signed up for it because I wanted to do something new and really push my limits. TM did that. In training for it I found myself in the best shape of my life. With upper body strength and power and endurance. Amazing. I did have a mishap and broke my ankle early on. I did *know* it was broken…even though I knew it was messed up. But I finsihed the course. And I’m so proud that I did it. You’re right in that training for a marathon is so grueling and time consuming. TM takes less time to train but it definitely takes a different mental fortitude to finish it.

Which one are you doing? Is it before Fitbloggin? I’d love to talk to another TM!

(yes, there are a lot of exclamation points in this comment…but I love Tough Mudder.)

    Here’s my recap.

That is SO awesome!! I am sure you are going to love it. I am still not quite ready for things like that, but it’s a goal to work towards! I wish they had them here….

Can’t wait to hear more about your adventures on this!!

I would SO love to do this with you!!! Damn… Why do I live so far away?! :(

You’re going to LOVE it!! A whole group I was with did the Warrior Dash last June, which is similar. Your preparation schedule is great — you’ll do fine. The only thing I would suggest is bring hydroperoxide in case you get any cuts. One of my friends ended up with a nasty infection from the water after his knee got scrapped on some logs during the swimming portion.

Where are you doing it? It would be so exciting to see! You can rock this!

Thank you! Last year while my sister did the warrior dash and spartan races, I was green with envy. I was in pitiful shape, and in no was able to join her. I am still in pitiful shape, but I have been exercising regularly and getting healthier. Thanks to your reminder, I can plan accordingly and TRAIN for one of these events. It won’t be easy, but it’s not meant to be. Thank you for the reminder. I will commit and NOT let another year go by… =-)

I know a bunch of people who did that. I’ll just smile and say have fun! :)

They have races like that here in the Chicago area and I would do one in a heart beat! I think even though it’s challenging it would be so much fun!

OMG. I am doing my very first mudderdash (5k version of this) in March and I am very, very nervous. Its my first 5k ever. But, you are right…training for something rather than just randomly training is making a difference. I’ll be so interested to read about how you are training any ANY tips people have on preparation. (And, I don’t necessarily like to run…but TRAIL running is very, very fun.)

I totally agree with the whole “I need something to work towards” thing! Otherwise, I get a little lazy and unmotivated. You’ll be great!

    Michele

    February 21, 2012

Congrats!!!! I agree with the “working toward something” attitude as well. It seems to help with the “I don’t want to get off the couch” attitude I can have sometimes. I’ve just signed up for my first triathalon in July and nervous is an understatement! Good Luck :-)

Looks like a lot of fun! I’ve been chomping at the bit to find a race for me, too – most of the races I’m considering are in the States. MUD!! I expect tons of pictures from the course ;)

I’m usually just a lurker but I had to comment because I did the exact same thing three weeks ago. The big difference is that I signed up for the Warrior Dash on May 21st. 8 miles scared me way too much! I like the 3 miles to get my feet wet in the whole mud run thing. I’m 45 pounds into my journey and I need things to inspire/motivate me. What better than the fear of *dying* to get me going :-) Actually I’m just trying to be healthier and this is an excellent way to my goal. Good luck with your training!

I’m doing the PA one on May 13. 10 AM wave I think. I can’t remember. I think I was in shock when hit the submit button. lol

Jackie – It really is! I did a 5k “dirty run” last year and I liked it! I think that’s when I caught “the bug.” :)

    February 22, 2012

Wow – that’s crazy, but I know you will do it! Did you sign up to do it alone, or do you have some crazy friends to do it too? I hope hubby will be there to take pics along the way because there’s nowhere for you to stash a camera on this one! Best of luck!

I am training for a Tough Mudder too! Mine is in April, less than 2 months away at this point! I am so scared for the 12 miles–I’ve never even run more than 3! But there are lots of “breaks” for the obstacles, right? ;)

Hi Roni, my question was, are there training groups for the TM or did you just creat your own. If i decided to do it one year would i have to train on my own or would i be able to find a training group?

thank you and good luck :)

    April 25, 2012

I think they have “bootcamps” in the bigger areas but I just started my own.
