One Mom’s Journey from Fat to Skinny to Confident

Tree is Down, Points are Up and Other Stuff (Including 2 Fun Announcements!)

I’m in need of a chatty post. One where I just brain dump because I’m feeling all over the place.

The holiday break was totally awesome, but I fear my return to normalcy as I’m not quite sure what normal is. Working from home with baby is getting harder as he gets older and with the New Year comes more work. All fun stuff I want to be doing (the conference, a book idea, etc) but somehow I need to find time to focus and balance everything.

It helps to remind myself how lucky I am to work on things I love. I just need to take a deep breath and do what I can when I can.

Like today!

The baby woke up early again. I think his schedule is slightly shifting. Meaning my early morning workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays may be out. :( So after breakfast while everyone else was sleeping and baby was playing next to me on the floor, I got a post done for Baby’s First Year, updated my FAQs and cleared a few messages from my inbox.

Then when the husband got up we took down the tree.

I know for some of you it may seem early. When I was a kid we’d have it up for weeks after Christmas but honestly, I need it gone. Every day I see it after Christmas it’s a reminder that the holidays are over. It’s back to reality and there’s this big to-do that needs to be checked off and cleaned up. I just can’t seem to get motivated or organized staring at a post-Christmas Christmas tree!

I was happy to see it go, but Little Bean seemed so sad watching us take it down.

With the tree put away the family headed out for one last vacation outing. Little Guy needed a hair cut and the husband wanted lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. WHO, by the way, totally screwed me on a salad for lunch! I ordered the Honey BBQ Chicken Salad thinking it was a good choice with no croutons and grilled chicken. The rest of the salad is some greens, tomatoes and a little cheese. How bad could it be?

Well according to everything I found online, 733 calories and 38g of fat bad!

For a SALAD?!?

I calculated it at 17 points. Excessive for any one meal, especially a salad.

But what am I gonna do? I counted it and moved on. I have one more day to track this week. Click here to see my food journal so far. I almost used all my weekly points, but I’m not tracking Activity so it’s probably a wash.

I will weigh in on Wednesday but I won’t know if I lost this week as I didn’t weigh in last Wednesday. I just didn’t want to see the post-Christmas binge number and get depressed so I forged forward blindly. Best thing I could have done. I’ve been totally motivated. Especially in exercise department! I’ve been kicking butt on moving my butt!

Today I ran to the gym (it’s just over a mile away) and took yoga and then ran home. It was awesome and I’m going to do my best to take a yoga class once a week. My other goals are 2 BodyPump classes (weights,) 1 Body Combat class (cardio,) and at least one longer run (3+ miles) a week. I know it sounds like a lot, but I love every minute of it. It truly is the only time I have to myself. When I’m home (which is ALL THE TIME) I’m either cooking, cleaning, entertaining a 9 month old or helping a 6 year old with homework. I want to get out for an hour a day. Heck, I NEED to get out for an hour a day!

OK I feel like I’m "talking" your ear off. Let me close with a bullet list. It helps me figure out what I’ve done and where I need to go. Plus I have some fun announcements. Let me start with those…

Ok, I think that’s it. Brain dump complete. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!

I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on mine.

However, to prevent the massive amounts of spam I was receiving I have turned off comments on any post older than 5 days old. If you'd like to leave me a note regarding this post or anything really try me on twitter (@RoniNoone,) my Facebook page, or even IG (@RoniNoone) I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I never thought I'd have to do this but it's gotten way out of hand and comment management has become simply too time consuming to manage.

17 points for a salad? You bastards! :) Seriously, eating out scares me sometimes – at least if I make something “bad” etc at home I know what’s going into it and can enjoy each of those calories better. Too bad you couldn’t enjoy that meal :(

Congratulations on the shape awards and the book. I weigh in today at WW and I’m going to put my big girl pants on and get my number. Then brush it off because I’m already getting refocused.

Dang, girl! You have a lot going on! Congrats on the Shape win! How awesome!

I think the Mr wants to take the tree down today. I don’t want to but we’ve got a small living room so I think I might like having some space back. I’ll probably curl up in a ball and cry afterward. :\

What kind of help were you looking for on the blog?

Congrats on all things that are going great!
I think your exercise plan sounds fun! I took my first kettlebell class last night and will be taking it twice a week for 8 weeks. I feel the same as you-it is MY time to get out of the house. I took my measurements this morning to see what this class can do for me, excited every measurement is smaller than it has been in YEARS!! I have been counting calories off and on, but even when not, trying to make good choices. Thank you to Green Lite Bites for so much inspiration! Since I have watched the how to cut a butternut squash video, I have made it several times And so is my 7 month old.
There was my brain dump. Thanks for being inspirational!

Just a quick comment to thank you for the ww tracker download. I started ww in 2001 and haven’t tracked for a few years now. I’m feeling a little out of control lately, so wanted to track again with the old points system. Your file is perfect–I keep it on my desktop and can access it quickly and easily. It made it so easy for me to start tracking again and feel more in control. Thank You!

Roni, you are so funny (‘brain dump complete’) and so down to earth. I love it. I’m reassured that I’m not the only one that feels like I lose my way every once in a while, that its necessary to refocus my goals as my circumstances change and that is okay to pat my own back or whine to myself every once in a while. Congrats on your win in Shape! You’ve got me as a follower forever.

Roni, thank you. I appreciate knowing that other people out there have the same struggles and frustrations as me. Some weight loss bloggers tend leave out comments about not tracking, not weighing in, worries about pounds creeping back or anything they may deem as being a “fail”. It’s always sounds like it’s so easy and there are no setbacks. You keep things very real and I appreciate that! Thank you for letting us in to every aspect of your life. You are more than generous with your time and your family!

Congratulations on the Shape award and the book! Awesome news! How the heck do you manage everything the way you do? You are amazing!

Congrats on all your fun announcements! I am the same way about the Christmas tree; our tradition is it comes down on New Year’s Day!
Although I have been reading your blogs for some time now, I don’t get to do it every day. My new attitude is, I’m going to read them more, hopefully daily. Especially Geenlightbites!!! (Don’t want to say new year’s resolution bc I don’t believe it them and they don’t work!! lol!) I am also back on the tracking band wagon. Its been awhile and the scale proves it.

Thanks for everything you do and your honesty! BTW: Little Bean has gotten so big since my trip to Baltimore!! Time goes by so fast!! :-)

Hi Roni. A zillion congratulations on the Shape Award and the book mention. Very exciting. We took our tree down this weekend too. Out with the holidays, in with the new year health motivation. I’ll be stepping on at weight watchers tonight, won’t be pretty, but I’m ready to face the music (and the number) and move on. Geez, this comment is a bit long, guess I was brain dumping too! Have a great Day.

At Buffalo Wild Wings according to their nutritional information 2 things that aren’t actually that bad are the chicken buffalitos & the chicken queso wrap. I think the chicken queso wrap & the side of chips & salsa that come with it come to 16 or 17 points. Pretty good for an entire meal at a restaurant as ordered.

Hey I would love to lead a chat.

    January 4, 2012

I’m so with you on getting rid of the tree! Once Christmas has passed, it all looks old and dusty to me. I’d take it down by the 27th, but hubby acts like I’m the anti-Christ if I mention it. Usually it’s my New Year’s Day morning project.

    Love the newsy post:)

Hi Roni! Happy New Year to You!

    I have a suggestion since your baby is getting up early. When all three of my kids were that age, I had this awesome baby back pack.{keyword}

Kind of like the link here. He’s big enough for that now. If I had things to get done, I would put my smallest in there, vacuum, walk up and down the stairs, or if it was nice out (or cold, just bundle them up) I would walk with the other kids and carry around the baby on my back.

I have great memories of my daughter Claire in that thing. I would put her in it when I made dinner. When she was big enough, she would put her feet on my hips and kind of stand up and her tiny face was next to mine as she watched me chop veggies. They were always safe in there, and I could get so much more done!

Anyway, that’s my two cents about that! :) Have a great day.
