Wednesday Weigh In: WHAT?

I’m down 1.2 lbs.
Of what? I don’t know. I’ve been a bottomless pit lately and I haven’t workout or ran since Saturday. Monday I had the Essure Procedure done (no lectures I’m all babied out and I’m SURE. Never been more sure of anything in my life) and doc said no exercise for 5 days. At first I was nervous about it, but now I’m welcoming the break.
My return to exercise will be this Saturday at the Zombie Run and I’m scared! I have no idea what to expect or even what to wear. It should be an experience!
In other news…
- I vented a bit about feeling isolated as a mom on Baby’s First Year,
- I’m continuing to archive my adventures in baby food making on GreenLiteBites, and
- I posted half of a School Lunch idea because I forgot to take a picture. :(
That’s about it. Time to check out and cuddle with The Husband. Revenge and American Horror Story are on. It’s my new favorite night of TV! :)

What's Cooking in my kitchen?
-
I've seen it mentioned in a few of my clean eating and healthy cook books but honestly, I never even thought of Farro as an option for me. I refuse to shop at specialty stores and I try to use only common products that I can keep in stock and purchase from a typical grocery [...] -
I've never had a tuna melt. Is that weird? I guess that's what happens when you grow up not liking mayonnaise. I never ate tuna salad or egg salad or chicken salad. Honestly, they always kind of grossed me out. Then I realized.. hey.. why does tuna salad have [...] -
I have no idea where this idea came from. I was hungry. It was lunch. I had Brussels Sprouts. That was all the catalyst I needed.:) I decided to use a slice of real bacon to add flavor and little fat that would help sauté the sprouts. I'm trying [...] -
WOW was this good. I mean seriously good. It's not vegetarian so don't start throwing stones. I'm calling it a Garden Vegetable Burger because I use the new Laughing Cow Smooth Sensations Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese Spread. It was this recipe on Allrecipes.com that inspired [...] -
I drink water 99.9% of the time but every so often it just doesn't cut it. I want something else. Something more. Something slightly sweet. Today was one of those days. I decided to make a refreshing drink based on the famous Arnold Palmer, half lemonade and half iced [...] -
The other day I made a whole chicken on the grill in pieces. It was delicious! Just a little BBQ sauce and an open flame is all I need to make The Husband happy in the dinner department. I also picked up a few ears of corn from the grocery store. They aren't in season [...] -
Let me explain so you don't think I'm making a chili recipe and just put it on pizza. I'm calling this vegetarian Chili Pizza because chili is what inspired flavors. I think I told you. Little Bean is really into, well, BEANS! We go through a can about every 2 days. Yesterday [...] -
I've confessed my inability to follow recipes here on GreenLiteBites many, many times. I don't know why it's so hard for me. I can barely follow some of my own and I wrote the darn things! I think most of my problem stems from not having all the ingredients listed and, [...] -
Leftover brown rice and leftover sauce meet in this quick lunch idea inspired by my favorite food of all time: Pizza. I swear I can turn anything into a pizza concoction. Have you seen all my pizza ideas? I've used everything from pumpkin to zucchini, polenta to wontons. Nothing is off [...] -
This isn't a recipe just an idea I had to share. I can't believe how good it was! I've never had grilled pineapple. Can you believe it? I just never really had the desire to grill it before. When you love something raw sometimes it doesn't occur to you to cook it. [...] -
I whipped this up for lunch on a whim today because, well, I have a baby who's obsessed with three things… Cheese, Beans, and Avocado. No, really. Look... It's my go to meal for him so I find myself with beans and avocado readily available. [...] -
You know that tradition 7 Layer Mexican Dip? The one with the cream cheese, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, cheese, green onion and olives? Yea. That's the one. Well I had a craving for it the other day. Well, not exactly for it as I can never make anything the way it's suppose [...] -
If you go through the archives of GreenLiteBites I have about 5 total beef recipes. Five. Compare that to the 80+ I have tagged with chicken/turkey there's a clear winner in the meat department on my blog and in my home. I don't have a beef with beef (omg The Husband [...] -
I'm a kitchen sink smoothie maker. Whatever I have on hand goes in the blender and viola! A quick breakfast or a healthy snack. Last year I posted an "Elastic Approach" to how I make smoothies but I still like to share specific combinations that worked really well. This was one [...] -
The other night it was just the kids and I home for dinner and I decided to make what I wanted to make no holds barred. Without The Husband home it's much easier for some reason. Hmmm wonder why? Ok, not here to husband bash.. really.. I'm not! I'm here [...] -
*sigh* I was really hoping to share an awesome turkey burger idea. I had grand plans for my leftover ground turkey. The results was alright but they could have been so much better. I added diced pineapple, red pepper, green pepper, oats and soy sauce to the meat and formed 2 patties. In hindsight I [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday having no idea if it would work. To my surprise it did AND the husband actually said he liked it... UNSOLICITED! Here's the story. I had only 4 tilapia fillets defrosted for dinner. I knew it wasn't going to be enough for us [...] -
This is a slight reboot of a recipe I posted last year simply called Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili. Staying true to my use-what-I-have-on-hand roots I, well, used what I had on hand and made a similar dish with a spicy twist. Topping the result with avocado added a cool creaminess that [...] -
Did you hear? The Laughing Cow recently launched Smooth Sensations a line of 5 cream cheese spreads. There's Classic Cream, Classic Cream Light, Strawberries & Cream, Garden Vegetable and my favorite… Cinnamon. It's a sweet wedge of creamy goodness! Today I decided to use my new favorite flavor [...] -
Confession time, I recorded a 30 minute video making this with both kids (partally) 2 nights ago. I miss videos. I really do but they seem so much more difficult with 2 children. I'm also having technical difficulties with my video recording and audio syncing making it VERY time consuming to edit. [...] -
A couple of years ago I shared a modified version of Sloppy Joe's I made for a party. Everyone loved it but I've been wanting to try to make something similar for the family on a smaller scale and without the pre-made canned Manwich sauce. I don't particularly have any issues [...] -
Yesterday I was dreaming about a salad. Not just any salad, but a chickpea filled, cucumber, and red onion salad with a fun, tangy dressing. Unfortunately, I had no cucumber or red onion. Well, that's a lie. I had a half of cucumber but it was a mushy mess and [...] -
Dinner meals are getting harder and harder for me to share lately. I've gone back to just whipping things up without really measuring anything (this meal was going to be one of those until I realized I still had enough light to take some photos.) I've also instituted a few brainless meal nights [...] -
Three years ago I posted a video called "Makin' Hard Boiled Eggs" where I shared my system for, well... making hard boiled eggs. Genius name, I know. I'm smart like that. Anyway, since then I've gotten tons of feedback and comments thanking me but all the information is locked in a long winded 10 minute [...] -
Yup. You read that correctly. BEET as in those red vegetables that stain your fingers pink. Honestly, I have no idea what possessed me to make this. I don't particularly like beets. I mean I like them, but I don't looove them. Two summers ago I made them for [...]
"@Nubiancooki darn! I don't think I have any popsicle ideas although I will tell you almond milk and sugar free chocolate pudding is AWESOME!— RoniNoone

A friend who is on Weight Watchers just told me that she got some advice from someone who recently lost 30 lbs on WW. She said that any time you hit a plateau- you should stop counting points for a day or two and eat more than you normally would and it will get you out of it. So interesting, right? I have no idea how that works- but maybe it worked for you?!?
Ooooohh… good luck at the zombie run! There will be a full posting on it, right? :)
And I’m loving Revenge and AHS! Are you watching Ringer or The Walking Dead?
Ringer no but Walking Dead.. YES! Although, I thought the first episode was lacking.
Roni, just wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying the baby food making blogs on greenlitebites. I have a 5 month old and am beginning to make my own baby food for her. Your tips are helpful. Keep them coming.
Walking Dead and AHS both totally awesome shows!!!! It is my mommy time every week lol. And good job on the 1.2 lbs. Some is better than none. I have heard that the not counting for a couple days when hitting the plateu works as well. Something about tricking the body so it freaks out since your not doing what it is used to and works against it ie. the 1.2 lbs gone.
Sometimes weight loss is inexplicable, you try hard and don’t lose, you slow things down and do lose… ug! But what I really wanted to comment on is the mom isolation thing. I was a stay at home mom for 10 years and I totally get it. It frustrates me, because if someone had come spoken to me at the library and broken the ice, I would have been alllll over that!! I met one of my best friend in the world because we were both pushing a cart at a pet supply store and we exchanged numbers on the spot. We recognized that we each just really wanted a mom-pal. Years later I told her how weird that was of us, and we laugh. Keep talking to people, because one day that person will be there and it will just click and the rest will be history. Those ladies at the library don’t know what a neat person they’re missing out on :)
Oh by the way, about pushing a cart in the pet supply store, we each had a baby about Bean’s age…. so that’s why we started talking. haha! thought I better explain that one!!
How can you be surprised? You’ve been doing awesome all these weeks. Remember how you say “stay at it” and the weight will come off when its ready to…well you my friend have been rewarded for weeks of good behaviors! :)
I LOVE Revenge & Ringer…two of my favorite shows this season! :)
I had the essure procedure done as well- and while I had a moment of “it’s really over” in terms of having babies- I am also 100% sure I don’t want anymore. I was surprised how easy the procedure is- and the follow-up dye test is not as bad as some (especially on the internet) will have you believe.
I made an omelette roll up this morning- no bacon but spinach and a touch of shredded cheddar and garlic powder- was so good!
Congrats on the loss this week!
Good for you on the procedure. When you’re done, its your choice, no one else should be judging that. Congrats on the loss, a surprise losses are the best!
YAY, I’m so glad someone else is watching AHS! I thought it’d be right up hubby’s alley but he’s not interested but man every episode makes me jump at some point. It’s like a movie its so well done and they don’t hold back!
Need to make my appointment for Essure AND Novasure (my doctor will do both at the same time) … we’ve been talking about it for over a year. So it’s not bad? He tells me it’s 90 seconds & you’re done.
awwww Roni! (hugs) even though I don’t know you!- Just read the isolated Mom post. I’ve been reading your blog for years and to me, you’re an AMAZING mom while you also seem to very much be taking care of yourself and taking care of business (with all the blogs and cooking sites and fitness stuff!). You are an inspiration to more people than you can imagine, I hope you run into some awesome ladies out there soon to start hanging out with. I recently moved back to Jamaica (where I was born) and don’t have many friends here (having formed my closest bonds in college in Miami, NOT in high school in Jamaica). My husband has been encouraging me to get out there, meet folks, and call them, and make new friendships since I also work from home right now (no kids yet, only been married 6 months!). We can do it Roni…. :)
I’m getting the Essure done soon, just trying to get some other things taken care of soon. I’ve never been so sure of anything in my entire life, 3 kids is MORE than enough!
Just finished watching Revenge from last night. Holy shizz, I love that show!
I’ve noticed this too – I always drop some weight when I first STOP exercising. Then the little devil on my shoulder starts to whisper that maybe some miracle has occurred and maybe I don’t HAVE to exercise anymore. Yeah right. If I listen to that siren song, eventually the pendulum swings and I start gaining. So the secret is, pay no attention to that man behind the curtain, or that number on the scale. Get right back at the exercise (obviously in your case this week, as soon as you’re allowed to), and I’ve found then that loss often actually sticks. It might be a while before you see another loss, but at least you have something to show for all the work!
Hey Roni,
I read your article on feeling isolated. I am a stay at home mom. My Daughter just started Kindergarten and my son will be 4 this November. I try to reach out to other ladies at church, at school but they all seem to have their own cliques established. My relationship with my husband is very close so I am not lacking in that area. I always feel like there is something I’m doing that puts people off. I try to make conversation but also get a one word response. It makes me feel like I’m not “good” enough. I know it’s not true but rejection in any form can make you feel that way. On another note great job on the weight loss. I have done WW since my daughter was born and had much success. I have read your blog for years and I can relate to you more than any other blog. I am a 30 something mom. I’m at that stage in life where I am trying to find where I fit in. In addition, I have slipped up on my weight loss and that only adds to that self defeating voice in my head. Thanks for keeping it real. So many people avoid the “messy” in life….
Congrats on the weight loss surprise!
When I was a stay at home mom and we moved from the Midwest to the West coast I found a Mom’s group to join. It was a great way to meet other stay at home mom’s.
There were organized activities, field trips, mom’s night out, couples dinner groups and so on.
If there isn’t one in your area you could always start one. There has to be some readers of your many blogs who live in your area and would love to get together with you and little bean for a play group!
Crazy isn’t it? Some weeks you are on track and the scale goes up, others, you lose for no apparent reason. Proof positive that the body has a mind of it’s own. (hmm..that last sentence is pretty profound…NOT…) Have a great day Roni!
@Melanie – Not bad at all. Just a little cramping ont he first day. Now it’s like nothing happened!
I had essure at 43 and it was no big deal even the HSG test after was easy (for me).
I started eating 5 healthier meals a day, stopping 3 hrs before bedtime, and working out multiple times a week. Started May 1st and have lost 35lbs. I’m on a plateau right now and need to get back into working out. Because with just watching what I ate I stayed the same weight for two weeks and than slowly gained 3-5 of it back. Which is NOT The direction I want the scale to go. Grrrr. I’ve never heard of the essure before and will definitely be looking into it — the Mr has 6 kids & I have 2… they range from 4yrs to 24yrs. Thank goodness (I know that sounds bad) but we only raise my 2. He’s 40 and with my youngest being 9, I’m not sure I want to start over with an unplanned one! I love your site — your recipes look so yummy!! I’ve been following your tips and tricks.
Hi Roni,
I also had the Essure procedure done about 2 years ago now. My doc told me mine was alot more difficult & painful than most people because I’ve never had children, but I am glad I had it done. Mine was actually the first my doc had ever done on a woman that hadn’t had children so I was the guinea pig. :) Hope all went well & easy for you.
Take Care,
Jeri Lyn
Hey Roni!
I’ve been on WW for two years and lost 56 lbs. but was never a “weekly meeting person”. Not knocking it, it’s just not my thing. That being said, the price tag to get weighed in +
e-tools is starting to get bit hefty. I’m going to continue w/e-tools for now, (I like that I can quick reference on my droid, etc) but want to do my own weekly weigh-in. I was wondering if you could tell me what scale you use or if you have any recommendations?? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks so much!
