An A-Maize-ing Sensational Sunday

25 Comments 4563 views

Today started quietly. Little Guy slept over his friends house, leaving Little Bean and I all alone for the start of our Sensational Sunday.

He tried to fill his big brother’s shoes, but was not nearly as helpful in the laundry sorting department.

Before starting this week’s laundry I had to finish last week’s. I totally forgot there was a load of towels in the dryer. Always fun.

I folded while Little Bean kept an eye on the strange, hairy 4 legged creature that was roaming around our messy basement.

We started breakfast with a Cheerio Appetizer.

Little Bean hasn’t quite mastered the self-feeding thing. Check out this video of him trying Cheerios. It cracks me up every time.

I had a Spinach and Turkey Bacon Omelet Rollup, again.

In honor of Little Guy, I blasted his AWESOME mix and danced around like a complete lunatic while cleaning up.

Little Bean was quite amused.

I finally got a chance to frame some new pictures. I’ve been slacking in the portraits department for baby #2.

Little Bean headed up to nap and I cleaned. It was nice to have a morning completely to myself.

FINALLY the husband decided to join the land of the living. I greeted him with a load of laundry to fold.

Once our "chores" were done, we picked up Little Guy and his friend and headed to Maize Quest, an annual October tradition for us.

We realized this was our 10th year attending. The Husband and I started going before we even had kids. Now it’s one of our favorite family traditions.

We snapped this of Little Bean on his first trip…

Which is almost identical to one of Big Brother on his first trip…

Although Little Bean is about 3 months older.

The husband also snapped this…

Which is almost identical to this…

The ones of Little Guy are from 2005. Now he’s a 6 year old! Unbelievable!

I snapped this..

and CRACKED up when I saw it. I know you aren’t going to believe me, but I had NO idea he flipped the bird. I was too busy trying to get Little Bean to look at me.

We finally got home at 7PM. It was a long, fun, active day. I LOVE THAT!

Dinner was some quick pasta…

and dessert, a super sweet cantaloupe from the farm stand.

I didn’t do much to prepare for the week. The grocery shopping isn’t done. Tomorrow’s lunch isn’t made. The clothes aren’t put away. BUT I spent a great day with the family and that’s what really matters. :)

Hope you had a fabulous weekend!

Hi Roni, I really, really love your blogs. I’ve tried so many of your recipes and feel honored you include us in all aspects of your life. I am so proud of you and your accomplishments, even more so by your consistently positive attitude. It was a pleasure to vote for you yesterday as I truly feel you are one of the best bloggers I’ve ever come across. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but for the life of me, I just don’t understand why you would feature your husband on the cover of your newly revamped heading flipping you off. Here are all these beautiful photos showing how hard you have worked over the years and the love of your children and then we see him in what I suppose is supposed to be funny, but I think it just falls so short. I would expect this from so many others, but you have always held yourself to a higher level, and I am disappointed this is such an “in your face” blatant disrespect of your hard work. There is no doubt you have a very healthy relationship with hubby, which makes this all the more confusing. I just don’t feel it has a place on your heading, and yet you feature it again in today’s post. I’m really not a prude, but I work with very disadvantaged, angry people and try to teach them that this is a form of bullying and lowers self esteem for those on the receiving end. I’ll get used to it, but I don’t have to like it, although I will continue to love you and all your hard work. I hope I haven’t hurt your feelings by voicing my opinion. You are truly a ground breaking role model in my mind and I hope you win the blog award! I also hope you don’t get offended by my opinion. That’s all it is, for what it’s worth. Thank you for letting me express it.

    Cindy,

I love that Roni is so confident and willing to share almost EVERY aspect of her life with her readers. Even her husband and his birds. While I hear you in your explanation of the reason behind you not liking the bird, and you thinking it “falls so short”, I completely (respectfully) disagree. T me, that just showshow REAL Roni is with her readers! I KNOW my husband would be flipping me some birds if I took (and posted!) so many pictures of him and all the details of our life! Any who, all that chatter, in defense of the awesome and inspiring Roni :)

    Cindy,

What may be a form of disrespect and low self-esteem for some can be inside jokes and shared amusement for others. My husband and I have a very healthy relationship, and some of the things we say to each other would not at all be taken well by anyone else. Our shared experiences create different meanings for some things. Your comment is very probably genuine, but perhaps a private email rather than a public comment would have been wiser if that’s how you truly feel, especially when commenting on the personal relationships of people whom you don’t know personally.

I absolutely love your Sensational Sundays. I looks forward to them every week, first thing I do when I get to work on Monday mornings. I just love seeing the normalcy of your household and the family fun you always seem to have. Thanks for sharing.

I think it takes a heck of a man to support his wife like yours does… if he lets you post a picture of him folding laundry, he is definitely a keeper!! I think him flipping the bird is a great attempt of keeping things funny! If you can’t laugh, you need to re-evaluate things!! Love the new layout

I agree with the other posters. Over the years I have read many of blogs by many different people but yours is the only one that I make sure to read religiously. You are so open with us telling us when you are up and when you are down. When things go well and when things go wrong. I find myself talking to others about you and just calling you a friend because it is easier than trying to explain how I know you. I find myself wanting to share my achievements with you because your postings have helped me to make changes myself. Thanks.

And I love the photos of the bird, although I do understand the other posters hesitation about them and agree that sometimes it is surprising to see them in your header.

I think the husband’s bird-flippings are terribly insulting.

I think every family jokes around in there own way. The birds are not insulting to me because we do it in our own home, not out of disrespect but of teasing or zinging each other. Call me crazy but if I’m teasing my dad about something and he goes for the birds, smiles his gorgeous big smile and scratches his head with the bird finger it cracks me up!

    To each his one right?

Hi Roni. AWWW…your little guys are adorable, and your big bird flipping guy is HILARIOUS!!! It never even dawned on me that some readers would find that insulting, as it is obviously not meant in anger or frustration. Have a great Monday, thank you for sharing your life with us.

“I folded while Little Bean kept an eye on the strange, hairy 4 legged creature that was roaming around our messy basement.” – Hilarious and it’s close to my heart as we have a kitten in our house these days; it’s like having a natural wake-up alarm: you set you alarm to 7:20 but the cat wakes us up at 7:15 :)

Do stop by my blog when you get a few minutes. I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Your Sunday posts are my FAVORITE of the whole week. I love the day in the life type of posts. I think the husband and his birds are hilarious! I think it shows how supportive he is to what you do. I will scratch my head and inadvertently flip the bird to my husband when he thinks he is being funny…its just what we do. I am sure you and your husband are the same way–that’s just how you are. People need to chill and not be so uptight!

I think I’m more concerned with you eating cantelope right now Roni than the bird flipping! I’m scared to death to even touch the stuff right now with this whole Listeria outbreak! I’m sure yours is fine but I think I’d just leave them alone for a good while. Lol

I think the whole bird flipping thing just depends on your perspective. My husband’s family grew up giving the bird to each other and thinking it was funny. I grew up being taught that it was something you just don’t do because of what it “really means.” I can tell that for you and your husband it is an inside joke, and I love your blog enough that even though I inwardly cringe every time I see a picture with it, I’m still willing to come back and read (and I don’t think any less of you for you). I don’t judge you for enjoying it just as I hope you don’t judge me for not liking it :).

Cindy – You started quite the conversation and I find it really interesting.

You guys really do “know me” and you know I’m not one to insult, but like you said, I’m letting you into MY life and in my life the husband and I joke in that matter. I can tell you the husband is not bullying me or lower my self-esteem in the least bit.

In our own way, they are terms of endearment between us. Like Patty we do things like scratching our heads or our noses with our middle finger when joking. I do it too. In a weird way it’s one way we stay sane.

I love that you felt comfortable enough to share your opinion and I know you can appreciate the fact that this is my blog and as I do share a lot about my life. Because of that, these things will ooze in.

Thank you for expressing your opinion in a thoughtful way. :)
