Wednesday Weigh-In: First Day of School!

I’m down 1.4 this week?!? That was surprising. I haven’t been very diligent in the diet department, falling into a pattern of night time snacking again. Actually, I haven’t been very diligent this whole month which is why I’m only down 3 lbs for August, BUT…
I’m living the life I want to live and that’s more important to me than a number on the scale will ever be.
wow… I’ve come a long way.
So besides weighing in, I saw my Little Guy off today. It was the first day of 1st grade! Why do I have a feeling Kindergarten was the tipping point when it comes to the kid growing up. I have this sinking suspicion the next 12 years will be gone before I know it. School has a habit of fast forwarding time. At least it seems that way to me.
Just look at him! He’s all grown up!

(P.S. I don’t know if you can tell but the right side of my face is all swollen from yesterday’s fall, I covered up the bruise with makeup so other Moms at the bus stop wouldn’t think the Husband beats me. lol)
I decided not to run or workout today. I’ve been battling a small headache since the fall and my shoulder is really sore. It’s amazing how much damage a simple trip can do. I’m hoping to make up the workout tomorrow at the gym and then do tomorrow’s run on Friday, but we’ll see. With Little Guy back in school I need to find my groove with a new schedule.
I was able to finish the new GreenLiteBites page today. Click here to check out my School Lunch Ideas page and see Little Guy’s lunch for tomorrow. I’m glad I got it done. It will keep me motivated to change his lunches up a bit.
Other than that, I shared a short post about Baby Milestones. Little Bean is entering a new stage. He’s 6 months this month!
Ok, must go. I’m exhausted!

What's Cooking in my kitchen?

Sometimes I'll make something and then get obsessed, making it over and over and over again. It happened twice last week. First with The Most Amazing Bowl of Oatmeal EVER! I now have to stop myself from eating it every single morning. I decided to make a deal with myself [...] -
Four years ago I posted a photo journal of "The Toddler" and I making pizza. FOUR YEARS AGO! Click here to see it. Honestly, it's blowing my mind for 2 reasons. 1.) I can't believe how old my baby is and 2.) I can't believe I get to do it all over again with [...] -
I'm not kidding. I could not believe how good this was. A warm bowl of heaven. The combination of banana and chocolate chips is a favorite of mine. Add in just a touch of peanut butter and it's the perfect trifecta. Not only did it taste amazing, it filled me [...] -
I can't say enough good things about this book. The author doesn't hit you over the head with stead fast rules or try to sell some new catch phrase approach -- if I hear the phrase baby-led weaning one more time my head is going to explode -- she simple shares her thoughts, experiences and [...] -
I've recently discovered the amazing combination of cheese and dried cherries. I know, it sounds weird, but seriously… good! The other day I smeared some Laughing Cow Light Swiss on Cucumber slices and then topped with a cherry. It was a fun, sweet twist on standard cheese and crackers. Well, cheese [...] -
If I was a good blogger this idea would have been published BEFORE the Super Bowl not during it. I made these today to have a little fun. Surprisingly, The Husband liked them even though he didn't eat more than one. Why? Because he's strange like [...] -
If you read my weight loss blog you know I'm battling a bit of back and neck pain right now. I'm starting to feel a little better but those first few days where rough. Being the head chef of the household, this meant we ordered in a couple of times. I'm [...] -
I'm LOVING Pinterest! I can just scroll all day long looking at food photo after food photo. I wish I had more time to peruse! (I'm RoniNoone there by the way?) The other day I pinned a Portabello Mushroom pizza and was immediately inspired. It's such a simple idea and so light. [...] -
The other day I found myself craving an Orange Julius. Are they as popular as I think they are? Growing up we had an Orange Julius at our local mall. It was always a treat for us at the end of a family shopping trip. Once I was old enough to be [...] -
So I'm a little breakfast nutty at the moment. Little Bean LOVES eggs and I find myself cooking them more and more. This morning I decided to go super light (after last nights chocolate overload) and it was totally satisfying for just over 100 calories! The trick to making [...] -
A few weeks ago I saw Chef Michael Simon make a raw kale salad on The Chew. He sliced beets up real thin and cut the kale into ribbons. Then made a vinaigrette out of red wine vinegar and olive oil. I was immediately intrigued. So far I've only [...] -
I've had this idea for a quick creamy chicken dish for a few days now. It was time to give it a shot. The whole family LOVED it. I'm not joking. The only complaint came from Little Guy who declared his hate of mushrooms yet again BUT he ate everything around them. Fine [...] -
I made this on a total whim yesterday as I had leftover avocado after feeding the baby and leftover Spaghetti squash cooked from the weekend. I roasted the squash to serve with my Chicken tips instead of potatoes and it was AMAZING! Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. So I'm sitting there staring [...] -
It's post holiday season. You know what that means? Leftover Crescent rolls to experiment with! Every year for Thanksgiving I buy a few canisters. It's the only time I do as I can't be trusted around them. Let's just say I'd beat you in the How-Many-Crescent-Rolls-Can-You-Eat-In-One-Sitting game and leave [...] -
Last week the kids and I tried parsnips for the first time and I've made them 3 times since. I wanted to figure out the best way to roast them. Yeah, that's it, the best way to roast them. You'll buy that right? Right? The truth is, I'm obsessed. I found myself [...] -
Yesterday just felt like a good day to stuff an acorn squash. I had one sitting on my counter for quite some time and it was just begging to be cooked. Since both husband and child don't like it I made a solo meal just for me and, well, it was DELICIOUS! [...] -
I bought a fennel bulb on a whim for the holidays not knowing quite what I would do with it. Of course I forgot about until yesterday when I was rummaging through the fridge trying to figure out what I wanted to make for breakfast. I pulled it out and stared [...] -
I probably should have warned you I was taking a holiday hiatus. I've been soaking up every moment of family time imaginable these last few days, leaving no time for anything else. Not even blogging! Shocking I know. ;) So I return not with a new recipe, per se, but to [...] -
Here's a quick idea for when you find yourself with a spaghetti squash but don't quite know what to do with it. Come on. Admit it. That's happened to you too. It's sure happened to me! I roasted this squash on Sunday... [...] -
I'm not sure if this will be a crowd pleaser, but I liked it and thought I'd share in hopes it inspires you to have some fun with kale. I loved the combination of sweet pear, earthy kale, salty bacon bits and creamy hummus. The only issue with the wrap was [...] -
I'm going on day 2 of counting Weight Watcher Points and I'm already inspired to come up with light, healthy meals for myself. It's like I needed the constraint of points to motivate me. Isn't that weird? Anyway, all morning I was brainstorming what to make for lunch. I wanted something flavorful [...] -
I have a friend who patiently cleaned, peeled and cubed a fresh pumpkin and then selflessly gave me some. Scratch that, a TON! I would have never even thought of doing something like that! But now that I have it in my fridge the ideas are flowing. First, I roasted some [...] -
CHRISTMAS COOKIES! YAY! Sorry. I'm so excited! Little Guy and I had tons of fun making and decorating cookies today. It may just be my favorite part of the holiday season. I loved it when I was a kid and now I get to do it with my own kids. [...] -
This may be my simplest idea yet, but it was so tasty and satisfying I had to share. Plus you guys know I'm a Laughing Cow Community Leader so I'm all about sharing fun ways to use their products. You guys may also know how I feel about pausing and making [...] -
I made this on Thursday. THURSDAY! I hate when I can't post something I've eaten within 24 hours. It just bugs me. Not sure why, it really doesn't matter when I post it, does it? Anyway, I did whip this up to cure a pizza craving and I couldn't be happier. [...]

I love the pic. BEEEYOOOTIFUL mommy with beeeeyotiful children. YOu look so wonderful and happy. Yes. How it should be! Your children are blessed. YOu’re such a cool mom.
OMG! I had to laugh because I am an absolute klutz as well. I have a huge bruise on the side of my arm – source unknown; I’m just a klutz…
Roni, please don’t take the headache lightly. I don’t mean to be an alarmist, just a pragmatist hopefully a wise, health-conscious woman—but many a concussion goes ignored and can be dangerous, If you hit your head in your fall and you have a headache, you should be checked out. Really.
Be well and sure, you are responsible for many lives and your own.
I can’t believe how hard you fell :( Glad you covered it up with make up though – you don’t want to be the cause of whispers and rumors ;)
“I’m living the life I want to live” – I love this quote!
Definitely be careful running at night :( when can you start running in the mornings again?
I agree with dottie. That was my thought exactly after I read your post. Especially with the headache and swelling.
Agree w/Dottie…………….get yourself checked out!! Today. Now. Please.
you’ve just about caught me – and my 5 month plateau at 154. Sigh. And since I am only 5’6″, I need to get out of this slump! You on the other hand – look great!
Hope Little Guy had a great first day of 1st Grade! I remember reading your blog when he was a toddler… Awesome photo of the three of you!
cute photo of the 3!
Love the pic of you and your 2 babies! :) And, yes….it will continue to go by this fast…even faster…as your oldest baby grows up! Believe me…my oldest graduated from high school last year and went off to college…and I swear, just yesterday, his kindergarten teacher was kicking me out of the room on his 1st day of school. Just yesterday…! :) Don’t blink, as they say, because you will miss it!
I feel for you. My big guy starts all day kindergarten tomorrow and I have been having such anxiety over it. I just feel like it’s the signal that he’s no longer my “baby”. My lil guy starts preschol on wednesday which doesn’t help matters. Thank you sooooo much for the lunch idea posts since I am a newbie at this. When having to pack lunches in the past I try to do a sandwich on whole wheat bread with some fruit and a yogurt. He usually does pretty good with that but not always. I hope school went well for Ryan. The boys are so cute and getting big.
You’re right about time speeding up when school starts. It seems like yesterday that my oldest went off to first grade. He started 7th last week…..I feel like all I did was blink!
My wife and I had our first child in March. Seeing the growth he has made in the past 6 months, it is just unbelievable. I know that the next thing I know, he’ll be going off to the 1st day of first grade. Everyone has told me to hold onto each moment, because they grow up so quickly. I’m starting to realize that before my very eyes. You have two beautiful/handsome children. I never know if you’re supposed to call boys beautiful, so I just say both!
Ok… I read your blog daily, for about five years now… and I’ve never commented… but I had to post and say that I strongly agree on seeing a doctor… facial swelling and a headache after hitting your head, especially with forceful impact, should really be checked out… please go see someone… your picture in this post says it all… you are too important to just let it go.
You inspire me to continue on this health quest and to learn to love my life. I really love this post!
